  1. We haven't had any rain at all today and it doesn't look like it'll be arriving until quite late now. It's actually been a lovely bank holiday weekend -- not particularly warm, but sunny at least and very fresh out.
  2. Can anyone confirm hearing thunder in Coventry? I keep a log of thunder activity, and I thought I heard some earlier this afternoon with one of the showers but wasn't sure - I would just like some corroboration before I add today's showers to my log. Thanks!
  3. Heavy shower just passed through here too. Sun's out now. Alas, no thunder, but it was nice to see it rain hard. I hope more's on the way.
  4. As usual with Coventry we seem to be right on the line. Not sure what to expect for tomorrow morning.
  5. I have just seen a flash, but I don't know if it was lightning. I was looking out the window at the moon, trying to decide whether it was full or not, and I saw a flash in the clouds to my right. I was staring intently at the area after that for several minutes but saw nothing else. I checked the lightning detector and nothing's there for the West Midlands (but I do see some lightning showing up again in Wales) and nothing showing up on the rainfall radar either. So I just don't know! It did look like lightning though.
  6. Yep, it's been confirmed that we've had the deepest snowpack in Coventry this January in 22 years (since March 1991 to be exact): http://twitter.com/bablakewx
  7. And just like that - it's died right back down!
  8. It's fogging up here in Coventry a lot now.
  9. You'll be fine, Mr. Benn. As fizz511 has pointed out, you've done it loads of times. Just drive as carefully as you feel you need to in order to feel safe, and good luck!
  10. It's very windy in Coventry -- we're quite sheltered, so it isn't normally this bad here. It's easily the windiest day I've seen since I arrived here in May 2011. The gale destroyed the awning over the garage.
  11. Chilly this morning! But bright and clear and beautiful - I'd take this over gloomy grey skies any day.
  12. We got a pretty heavy hailstorm here in Coventry just a short while ago. No thunder or anything though. Otherwise, it's been a beautiful autumn day -- such a vast improvement over yesterday's dank and gloom.
  13. Coventry just had its first proper thunderstorm since I moved here in May last year! The storms of June 28th just missed us here, producing distant thunder and about 5 minutes of very torrential rain. This time the thundershower passed overhead, and I saw a flash of lightning (as well as heard plenty of close thunder) and the rain was again torrential. While this year hasn't been anything too remarkable for storms, it's been a darn sight better than last year (not that that's very hard -- 2011 was beyond pathetic)... both because I've heard a lot more thunder (including the two most notable events, June 28th and today) and because I went back to visit my family in Canada for two weeks, and saw a handful of storms while there.
  14. Just finished hammering it down here in Coventry again with another very heavy shower. No thunder this time though.
  15. Where I am in Coventry didn't have it too bad; there was no hail in this part of the city. Earlier this afternoon I heard distant, constant rumbles of thunder; these died down but then everything went very, very dark. You just knew it was going to hammer it down. But then the skies brightened and I thought maybe it had passed; that's when the torrential rain actually began and we got another, closer, moderately loud rumble from that. The rain then stopped as suddenly as it started, but some time later there was some more light rain and I could hear distinct booms of thunder in the distance -- these sounded sort of like cannon fire, very muffled, short booms.
  16. Immediately after brightening up, it began to absolutely hammer it down with torrential rain (accompanied by one moderately louder rumble of thunder) -- and then ended nearly as suddenly as it started. Still not the thunderstorm with lightning and all that others have had, but I'm just glad not to have missed out completely!
  17. It's *so* dark in Coventry now, like late evening. I could hear constant distant thunder, though it seems to be petering out. There's no rain yet, or any lightning. But at least it's something. And now it's brightening right up again! lol. Well that was fast!
  18. Coventry hasn't even seen a drop of rain, let alone a thunderstorm.
  19. Thanks for starting this thread. There's been relatively little discussion about Sunday's system, so it gives us all a go-to place to discuss or read about it in more detail. I'd be overjoyed if rainfall totals exceeded 30 mm over here -- I haven't seen a good hard rain like that in a couple years, to be honest. Not really sure what to expect for my area, but we'll see.
  20. What about tomorrow? I think the wettest day here in Coventry since I arrived last May was August 26th, with about 18 mm, if memory serves me correctly. Any decent chance of beating that tomorrow?
