  1. I believe the storms are elevated so ground conditions will play no part in events. Just have to radar watch I'm afraid but it's unlikely tonight so far West!
  2. Thunderstorm here now, It's growing as it moves NW so good luck to those in the firing line.
  3. Five lightning strikes here in as many minutes. These storms appear to be extremely elevated, surface conditions are playing no part in their development from what I can tell. And another strike whilst typing and rolling thunder, not shotgun type, which supports the elevated comment.
  4. Thunder in Bas! Edit: And again and very heavy vertical rain, no wind to speak of!!
  5. Nice pic, almost looks like an infant undulatus asperatus. It's a good sign!
  6. There was a blob leaving Basildon earlier, it was my wife going to bingo
  7. Welcome James. I'm just an old fart with an interest in extreme weather. The guys (and gurls) here are just fab. My weather experience has been enriched since joining this community, I'm sure you will fare well ;-)
  8. I just heard thunder but nothing on radar. Been a weird afternoon so far that's for sure!
  9. Just heard a long rumble of thunder. Did anyone else local hear it?
  10. Kingswood. It really was brief, I looked up and saw nothing much but I did get a little damp!
  11. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself. Just had a rain shower from a blue sky with just a few wispy clouds around! And they were heavy convective type drops, quite mental
  12. That was a belter last night!! Somewhere back through these pages I mentioned (several times) that it was going to be a fail in the far SW and that turned out to be correct. I briefly read the convective and regional forums and there are plenty of people who had got all hyped up then got nothing so now moaning!! I was surprised at what we got to be honest, but had it arrived during the day it wouldn't have been as spectacular as for some reason the thunder was extremely muted and the lighting was mostly intra-cloud. Anyway, here's to the next one and good luck to one and all. Currently 31.2°c here with humidity at 43% and a nice warm but refreshing breeze.
  13. Call me Carole if you want "HUMDINGER" Saturday AM is your best bet, tonight is the mixing bowl, tomorrow is the real event!!
  14. Nothing is going to happen. Been there and got the T-shirt. Perhaps a slight risk between Oxford and Boston, and a risk of an extreme event in the SE.
  15. Don't bother looking at the skies peeps, it isn't going to happen till past midnight, and if it does it's gonna be quite a spectacle!!
  16. For what it's worth this is my prediction. SW England/Wales infrequent elevated storms moving North and dying before 23:00 Central England towards Lincolnshire , weak storms throughout the night. SE England nothing until 02:00 onwards then severe storms lasting into the daylight hours. I'm in no way qualified to say why but I have seen this scenario before!!
  17. Twist and goes, I would link a video but it's wildly off topic. Feel free to PM me and I will share a youtube link.
  18. It's not going to happen... and to make sure I have a special word for you all >>>>> HUMDINGER Sorry Gordon, my amateur radio operator anorak just got deployed
  19. It's not going to happen... and to make sure I have a special word for you all >>>>> HUMDINGER
  20. It's a bit of both Gordon, at this moment it's unsure what will happen. Thunder/Lightning potential and energy is strong to the East but the trigger is lacking at the moment. Further to the West and stretching up through the midlands it's a good mixture of ingredients but any storms are likely to not be severe and fairly scattered but frequent.
  21. I just can't see the SW/Midlands getting the show they are expecting. Maybe the Welsh coast up through Liverpool but to my eye the low approaching from the atlantic looks to be pulling back more to the west.
  22. 26°c here and 46% but it feels very pleasant. Incidentally, the clouds here locally are moving from West to East, that reinforces my opinion that the forecasted storms for the SW/W will be a busted flush!
