  1. P.S. I did an experiment 25 years ago with my Amateur radio equipment. Back then I only had local press and TV news to confirm my findings, plus other radio operators. 20 Miles was about the max distance for a portable radio!
  2. 20 miles if you tune to a blank frequency with no broadcast carrier signal. If you tune to a weak station you can hear strikes from where it's transmitting from, so best tune to a blank spot for local accuracy.
  3. Gonna stick my neck out now and predict the hotspot for tonight will be within a triangle from Maidstone to Chelmsford and West to Oxford, don't ask me why, just intuition!!
  4. My fish pond could do with a few inches of rainfall, tap water just isn't the best idea!
  5. Don't forget your MW radios peeps, there's a lot of strikes not shown on lightning detectors online, your average MW radio will detect local strikes up to 20 miles away. Just tune to a weak station and listen!! After a while you can also tell the difference between CG and IC strikes, CG's sound like a sudden crack and IC's crackle!!!
  6. Cumulonimbus, classic storm cloud and your shot captures the Anvil (so called because of its shape) as it spreads outwards at the top, superb!
  7. Where's Gordon? These storms are quite benign and for a storm hater could well be a tonic!!
  8. How cool is that? It could well be partly what I can hear, but another observation just now and it looks like funnels are trying to form but nothing worthy of the name just yet!
  9. Hail roar? Never heard of that but this is constant and definitely thunder! Also since my last post it's hardly got any nearer.
  10. Ok thanks. In the meantime it sounds like a freight train in the distance, it's really going mental with continuous thunder
  11. Constant thunder to my West and it's not moving too fast so expecting a deluge shortly. Strangely lightning maps isn't showing every strike!
  12. I tried also, Mustard skies but the camera just can't reproduce it!
  13. I'll try but there's a lot of clag surrounding what I can see. Look South east of your location, you may have a better viewpoint than me.
  14. I don't want to mention armageddon but if you could see what I can see and live NNE of my location I would be afraid, very afraid!!!
  15. Runway 02 is looking just East of North (02 degrees east of magnetic north) Might see some action here later but for now any storms are further east of this viewpoint. Nice cam and quality though!
  16. I was wondering the same, but watching that cell to the SW of Southampton it may well have us in its sights!
  17. This is looking to be a Kent clipper, when it makes landfall it's going to go mental!!!
