  1. -6.0°C did someone @BurntFishTrouserssay stalling front?! Well wouldn't that be entertaining....
  2. Daytime max of -0.5C now at -2.4C and dropping like a stone. Fog back after lifting into this:
  3. Gone from a braw -0.5C and blue skies with bright crisp sunshine earlier to thick fog and -1.3C. The fog is merging with the snow cover to produce whiteout of all views. QuIte like that.
  4. Currently -0.5C and an unexpected surprise fresh dusting of 1cm of snow stuck to everything. Twenty second air frost.
  5. In the forest earlier today walking the dog and the areas thick with a canopy and no snow have started to thaw and it was like walking on carpet in slippers instead of hobnail boots on treacherous ice. It's the little things....!
  6. Overnight low of 0.8C and max of 1.5C, so showers of sleety wet stuff was the order of the day here. Nothing new lying but a couple of inches of icy crusty compacted concrete remain!
  7. Maximum of 2.1C earlier and now slowly dropping. Just the one photo from this afternoon's dog walk - worth observing where the trees have icing sugar coating the branches still. Looking at the OS map it's at about 550m. And looking at the 0C isotherm that looks about right: As for tonight, interesting that @Ruzzi suggests Biggar as a potential winner. That's seven miles from me, so you can be assured of updates!
  8. No air frost last night with a minimum of 0.2C. Now up to 2.1C and any showers have been sleety rain. Disappointing 24 hours. Last day of the holidays too... Pah.
  9. Was up on The Mount this afternoon and at 330m in the clouds it was definitely sleety: Beautiful looking towards the south end of the Pentlands (if you squint there probably 10-15 miles north) . And then looking south toward Biggar.
  10. Despite a forecast for overnight lows around -5°C, we managed a twenty first air frost at -1.4°C. But since dawn the temp has been riding at +0.5 to +0.9°C. Shocker. Getting the last splurge of showers from the ENE which have been snow, but the last one looked sleetier and, thank god at least the sheet black ice is dissolving. Snow not settling on the few clear surfaces so the wet boobiloo must be positive. Disappointing for 35-50 miles inland and up a bit!
  11. I stayed along Pilrig St for many years and my observation of the necessary deep cold for easterlies to produce the goods was an 850hpa temp of -8°C or below. Bit more leaway maybe!
  12. Currently -2.1°C, mildest all day. Car at lunchtime driving to the supermarket in Peebles showed -9.5°C in one spot...
  13. Twentieth air frost and what a frost.... -8.5°C. And then we had the dying Edinburgh shower pass over and light snow at -7C. Not that often I can type those words.
  14. From 6pm last night the rain carried on here and the temp eventually got up to 1.9°C at 10pm. Then by 8am it was my nineteenth air frost at -0.5°C. The thaw cut the snow cover back to a very crispy 7cm and where compression has occurred on steps, paths etc it's like a bloody ice skating rink. Already back to -1.3°C now after an afternoon high of -0.2°C.
  15. Quite a day here - 16cm lying snow now (the depth has doubled today). Currently the mildest it's been all day at 0.0/-0.2C. But it's now drizzling. Hoping the ppn will stop asap to preserve my lovely Lord of the Rings scenes: Have a smashing (no pun intended @Puffy MacCloud ) hogmanay all. Here's to lots of winter to come!
  16. Snow still piling down here at -0.5°C. Main A road turning white and when I take Finn down to the Tweed later I'll measure depth. I'm expecting temp to continue to rise as everyone has said and break above zero - will be first time for 40 hours. Looking at radar there is a lot of ppn to come for next few hours and keeping my fingers crossed.
  17. Moderate snow here at -1.5°C. Ground is like rock and there's 8cm from previous days. Overnight was my eighteenth air frost at -3.0°C and yesterday was an ice day. Marv.
  18. Through the forest up high. Narnia-esque with the blue tinge. As shot on my Pixel phone, freakish light.
  19. Seventeenth air frost and the coldest for nearly three years at -6.5°C. Still at -5.7°C at 11am. Blazing sunshine.
