No new snow at Shuggee Towers. Steel grey sky and a thaw with a positively Mediterranean 0.6°C for a couple of hours. Of out with the dog shortly to inspect the Tweed...

Max of -2.5C earlier and already down to -5.4C this evening. Brrrr. 2cm of snow and the next few days look interesting! Always feel it's dicing with the Gods when there's milder air aloft and it's borderline rain/sleet/snow - but it's been a few years that I can remember a decent chance like this of frontal snow.

Took me 1hr 15mins to drive the 1.5miles through Penicuik this morning. I found it a little bit annoying.

My better half just sent me a shot he'd taken not far from the house on the A701 for prosperity:

2hr 45min commute home this evening. The Midlothian rush hour was a complete mess. All roads were black at Straiton, went in to M&S (I'm posh me), came out and there had been 20 minutes of graupel after the earlier sleet and everything white, followed by another half hour of flakes. Auchendinny complete gridlock as northbound traffic couldn't get up the hill and southbound blocked as the tailback went through the two single track bridges. Then of course there's the 19mph driver of a Fiat 500 (hospital green) to contend with on 60 roads. Optimum speed was 37mph in the end - ruts and crunchy crunch. No gritter to be seen and all grit must've washed off from earlier sleet.... A heady mix!

I was in Harbro yesterday and the chap in front had de-icer, a snow shovel and a sledge in his trolley. He was way ahead of you and the forecast @101_North!!!

Snow in the borders too this morning following ninth air frost at -0.3C. Proper white over at Leadburn/Howgate - 28 Nov not a bad start date this far south. Mesmerising driving! In these situations, it's good to remember the old adage, "Get the cold in place first (tick) and then see what unfolds...".

New Red Warning all day Saturday in a more closely defined area of Stonehaven/Laurencekirk/Montrose and inland westward.

-2.8C delivered a thick frost here. Car took some warming up and black leaves have appeared across various plant species. Driving to Peebles, car got down to -4.5C, and was still 0.0C at 11am. Lovely jubbly.

First air frost for me last night at -0.9°C. And we're off...!
