  1. I suspect you're in line for a burying @mardatha. Hope you have your mushy peas stocked-up.
  2. Today is a special day in the shuggee household. We have hot water for the first time since 27 Dec. And had no heating whilst new hot water equipment fitted for three days. It's been intense.
  3. Has the Daily Express headlined the BFTE - actually getting it right for the first time amongst three years of garbage? I bet @Jo Farrowhas been keeping score?
  4. Just like old times I've had a jump into the 12z GFS charts. I've chosen Midnight Sunday (ie overnight Sat/Sun) to show how we are likely to be either going to bed smiling or staying-up lamppost watching: Precipitation and 850s -10 to -12C with snow across Caithness and Black Isle. In a line east from Elgin to Glasgow and across the Borders. Thicknesses just keep getting thicker. In fact the 528 dam passes over us headed south and over the border 6am Sat morning. And 0C isotherm. WIdely at sea level. Maybe 100m at this stge across Central Belt/coasts and to southwest, but with those showers..... Better build-up than Xmas 2020.
  5. 2.2C and very rainy sleet. Snowline up at 270m, but having driven to the supermarket and back on the road that goes that high, (I say road, when of course I mean deteriorating gravel track littered with potholes you could bathe in), it's sleet up there so it's definitely retreating back up the mountains.
  6. It's in my mind too that first week of February is, on balance, the coldest part of winter. Thermal lag must have such a huge influence on our maritime climate. Interesting to read about Philip Eden's take however - a worthy weather statistician. More information needed, especially the last decade's stats.
  7. The snowline as seen from my garden. That's at 230m. Snowed for 30 hours now and like elsewhere, that easterly gusty wind cuts right through everything. Temp between 0.7 and 1.5C all day again...
  8. 09:30 0.6°C heavy small snow flakes - covering building 12:00 1.1°C heavy snow blowing horizontally or even up the hill - patchy coverings 14:30 0.7°C heavy big snow blowing everywhere - sticking and covering 16:30 0.9°C heavy small snow flakes - patchy 21:00 1.4°C heavy small snow flakes - wet baws says naw Quite a day in a 40mph gale from the east.
  9. Was 1.6°C at 4am. 1. 1°C an hour ago. Now 0.7°C and snow bucketing down. Got to drive to Biggar. I may be some time.
  10. Currently 1.5°C and under the frontal edge across Lanarkshire /the western Borders. Radar says precipitation, weather type radar says snow. Outside says its the lightest unidentifiable ppn and is barely reaching the ground....
  11. When hobbies collide: East Linton / David Bosher WWW.RAILSCOT.CO.UK The former East Linton station, closed 4th May 1964, seen from the delayed ex-14.00 service from Edinburgh Waverley to London King^s Cross making an unscheduled stop due to heavy snow - the Beast from the... The site plans for the new East Linton railway station have now been published and I was looking at various documents, satellite images and photos of the old station when this popped up - a great story of the BFTE.... It's an omen I tell ya, an omen.
  12. Thirty fifth air frost at -0.6C. Sunny morning, still the lightest of sprinklings in the garden and on the drive. Up above 350m it's white. Friday to Sunday is going to be special me thinks... Mushy peas required.
  13. Yes, Hartree unofficially recorded -17°C or something similar. Just -2.0°C here overnight, but that is my thirty fourth air frost. Wondered if it'll make fifty. Note that the phone's XC Weather app has converted most of the week's six days of consecutive snow falling into a "wintry mix". We all know what that means!
  14. Noticed the temp was rising from -0.5°C to the heady heights of 0.3°C and lo and behold a ten minute light snow shower has made it this far west. As folk are saying about the upcoming week - exciting times.
  15. ESE is good apparently But in all seriousness its a product of the tilt of the fronts. Nothing to worry about.
  16. Wonder if there is a record of the number of consecutive negatively tilted bands of ppn to move across our shores?
  17. Gonna be chilly. A bit snowy, and frosty. Bit sleety too. Nay mild pish.
  18. Ooooo - another belter. In all seriousness, 12z GFS is a cold run for us and that was traditionally the most 'progressive' of the four GFS runs flattening out the jet stream and always seeking to reintroduce SW'lys. How times change....
  19. Overnight min of 0.6C which enabled a deposit of snow, but not really an even dusting, more a wet splattering so not counting a snow day. Certianly not the XC Weather 12cm Pal three miles away has an inch - at same height asl. The weird winter continues.
  20. 12z GFS a cold run for Scotland. Today's mild blip gone in the blink of an eye.
  21. Temp dropped from 5.5C to 3.1C in last two hours - that cold from the north east is making a comeback in these parts.
  22. 5.4C at dawn - positively Mediterranean. Didn't wear a hat outside No snow day today, green again...
  23. Thirthy third air frost at -0.4C in the last 90 minutes. Splattering of snow settled on everything making the previous snow/ice grippy but everywhere else icy and slippy. Cannae win!
