  1. Lovely to wake up to another fresh coating of a few centimetres of more snow this morning. Can't believe it has been snowing for over 24 hours now even it it was light sometimes. Looks like we have approximately 5 centimetres on the patio which thawed yesterday afternoon.

I also have spotted the weather over Belgium and it looks like we could be a direct hit later. Fingers crossed!

  2. According to BBC Breakfast the rush hour later is going to be a bit messy if this snow does materialise with the quantities suggested. I'm collecting my new car today which will be all nice and shiny. Shame I probably won't be able to see it properly on Saturday morning till the thaw has begun!

  3. A very exciting day here in South East Nottingham, Skies went so eerily dark for at least one hour before any activity happenned. My son said at school all the birds stopped singing whilst darkness fell at 10.30 am and the street lights were going on. The volume of the thunder was absolutely incredibly loud for this country. Just returned from Florida and was on par with there. Lots of proper lighting and thunder. Rainfall was torrential resulting in flooded car park at work. Shame I was inside a busy supermarket whislt this was going on. Even so thunder was so loud we could all hear it inside.

Husband was in Leicester this afternoon and experienced a very strong storm system which passed by striking building and everyone got sent home (not a bad thing as I got dinner cooked for me!)

Next time I would like to be at home and be able to witness this type of extreme weather for myself rather than being stuck at work!

  4. The squall line struck south Nottingham about 3.10 pm earlier. Never been caught outside in anything quite like it before. Talk about scary. Very scary trying to drive to collect kids from school in it especially with a lot of old folk trying to drive out of supermarket carpark. Unbelievable heavy rain and very gusty winds. So pleased I was in the car. If it hits you later in the south east stay indoors.

  5. Finally the storms seem to be leaving my area (SE Nottingham). We had a few little storms shortly after 4 pm which included a lot of hail and gusty winds plus incredible looking cloud formations. These continued until the big one arrived shortly after 6 pm (typically coincided with me trying to get husbands dinner cooked!). Went directly overhead with some extremely bright lightning and intense claps of immediate thunder. Kids bravely watched storms together upstairs whilst I got on with the dinner.

  6. Same here Stu..im thinking this is one of the worst places to be for storms (5 years ago we had our last one) 3 days of a 'plume' and a day of widespread thunderstorms..and we still cant catch a single rumble.

Not that im greetin or nothin..well spose i am a wee bit..but it just seems let down after let down here..

Our next 'chance' is Thursday and Friday according to BBC Weather..we shall see...

Don't give up 2011 is going to be a good year for storms. I have lived here SE of Nottingham for 6 years now and had storms for the first year then nothing. This year appears so far to be a good year from what has been going on already around the UK. Fingers crossed this year is going to be a good year!
