Not over just yet either! I got some great photos on the iPhone courtesy of that brilliant shelf cloud. Looked like an alien invasion, almost!
It was unbelievable, I saw a bolt of lightning bead out as well. Some really close strikes, the ones that blind you. Its moved north of me but I can still hear it booming away in the distance. âš¡âš¡âš¡âš¡âš¡

Possibly the best lightning storm in a good 5 or so years around here, even better that it was at night! The shelf cloud was insane here, clearly defined I am wondering if this was severe or not?

I can see faint lightning now to my SW, could this be it? The One? El Brumo....
-
Anything going to build behind those storms? I am in the mood for a good storm!
-
German super cells ,they won't be happy till they get 7 !!!....
Too soon? hahaThe rain is moving in a very weird direction, hardly moving at all.

So For CG lightning I usually stick mine on 15 or 20 second exposure, whack the f stop up as high as it goes.... I manual focus on a distant object like a pylon, tree, or something, and then just keep clicking until it delivers!
Is f stop the aperture? I just got a canon 600d off of my sister and I am having fun playing around in manual mode.

Just had quite a large crack of thunder here, wasn't expecting it as it currently looks like the middle of November, dull, grey and rainy.

Been out in the garden today, what a brilliant year for insects here is a quick run down of the ones ive seen in my garden alone in the last few weeks.
One of these ichneumon wasps (pure black though) was tapping my fence for larvae.
We have loads of these Summer Chafer flying round the cherry tree:
We have red and blue damselfly around our pond (one even landed on me!) stunning insects:
I have also seen some common darters about too.
I have seen a wasp that looks a lot like this Cerceris, not sure if it was but it looked exactly like this:
I have also seen a wood boring bee:
Pretty decent! I might go hunting under some rocks tomorrow to see if I can find a few centipedes etc.
None of the pictures are mine btw I currently do not have a decent camera.
Have a great weekend everyone!- 5

It looked good for here earlier but as the rain moved south over south western Hertfordshire it had already died out, not even a droplet of rain.Feeling rather humid tonight, temp of 15.5c with a dew point of 13c!! whoa.
-
still 17c! its a lovely evening.I didnt do much today, just relaxed by the pond.

We're a fair bit further away from it than you I think, but we've barely got any thunder. I've heard maybe one distant rumble despite numerous flashes, what about you?
Not really, we have got some but distant, its now really raining, I was wondering if the bit that just hit you had thunder in it.
-
Hi Mesoscale, took your advice, and although I can't get a great angle, just saw a flash. It's bright, isn't it?!It looks less like lightning and more like power lines going awry it's so bright haha!
Yeah haha its pretty blue, are you getting thunder at the moment?
-
That's me done for the night I'm off to bed, got my fix of night time lightning and some nice thunder. It's still flashing and rumbling well in the distance, so good luck to those south of here who haven't seen anything yet,,,
looks like im on the chopping block next, can see lightning quite brightly to my NNW, no thunder yet,
Lightning radars have picked up one or two strikers near here, but I haven't heard it seen anything haha!
look west mate.

I am getting quite nervous now, I hope it gets here (if it does) quickly so I can go to bed after, I need to get up early.
-
Loud metallic long rumbling thunder now in MK, just as the rain is easing off. I bet this sodding storm gets stronger as it moves away to my south
is there quite a bit of thunder with that storm? Looks like its heading my way.
-
Is that stuff near Northampton electrified?
-
I can definatley see the slightest flickers of blue lightning, I am a little nervous as I am alone. I used to be scared of storms but its gotten better as I got older, just night time storms still make me a little apprehensive.
-
I still cant see anything?
-
Yep I can see it now, there is lightning about 8 miles away now in Thame, pretty regular too
I am looking in that direction but I have not seen a flash yet.
-
Oxford getting Quite a few strikes now, grrrr it's only 21 miles west from me lol
you should be able to see flashes at that distance, unless you live in a built up area.Come on you beauties, I would love a decent night storm!
-
I'm actually gutted now that all we have had after two significant Spanish plume risk days (both of which were focused initially on our area) was three rumbles and seen no actual lightning and now getting excited about even getting one flash. It's actually depressing how (sorry to swear but strength of feeling) SH## out weather is. These German and Benelux storms blow anything we're ever gonna get out of the water. I'm seriously thinking about moving because the pointless and often overblown hype surrounding our British storm 'events' really gets to me these days. Can even get storms when I chase. What's the point. I might go fun something more likely to look forward to...(Have said piece... Off to sulk for next three weeks...)
I agree, I would move to Germany/Benelux in a heartbeat if I was guaranteed to find a job when I got there. I might move there for the summer next year and get a summer job?

That's Watford for you....
I know right! Its just hovering over North West Watford, nosiest thing in the sky around these parts tonight.
