  1. I know what you mean, which surprises to me why they never put any stations anywhere else on the island, as its such a diverse place with temperatures. There are so many massive hills, valleys, massive countryside. And then you have places like Newport and Ryde that are more built up and has a similar sorta feel to mainland England. One of the reasons we started up Isle of Wight met service, was so we can forecast the island as a whole because of how hard it actually is to forecast the islands weather as a whole. I guess we just got fed up seeing BBC weather forecasts and met offices having like 30+'c in summer heat, or below freezing in winter across all of Southern England, but yet would always have the Island showing 3 or 4'c higher than anywhere else. But so so so many times most of the island would be at the exact same temperature as most of mainland England sometimes colder or hotter. The areas on the island that would have temperature's being milder during winter and cooler during the summer, is normally due to the wind direction. Say if there is a SW or S Wind in a hot summer spells, the far South and West Coast will always be cooler, but then go inland and towards Eastern parts, temperature's would be much higher. St Catherine's is in one of those areas where it is prone to most win directions, straight off the sea too. So yeah I think your right, set up the station in the worst most boring spot on the island, no wander they always get our weather wrong Anyway still 25.4 here
  2. Im not entirely sure which ones are to be honest, but I know they report to Met office WOW. Also the Lake one is a Vantage pro 2 station and is set up properly too :). I know the one official one they do have on the island, is at St Catherine's lighthouse, which is in a really exposed area though. Really is exceptional this heat the last few days so far, sleeping is hard though
  3. Today has really been quite an incredible day on the Island, a few areas on the island might of even had there highest ever temperature's recorded locally, including my location. Here is a top 5 list and a map of all the islands temperature's from Today. 2 of the stations that were showing 36'c, one is ran by us the Isle of Wight Met Service, and the other is a different station very close which isn't ours. Even right now the Temperature has gone back up to 27.4'c after being 26.1 about half an hour ago. Here we have the top 5 list for the main areas on the island it self Here is the map of all the the stations on the island For a time the winds were E to ESE, then suddenly they turned South, causing a mad FOHN effect and a sudden rise in temperature as all the hot air sunk down off of Shanklin downs.
  4. We just had some pretty potent showers with Hail move through and they had some incredible looking sky's and structures
  5. Ahhh yeah been keeping an eye on this and could see this turning into a mass of heavy rain instead ahaha. Oh well certainly not complaining, was glad to see the lightning and hear some thunder the last 24 hours ?, a decent start to the season! Early days peeps, plenty more opportunity to come over the months hopefully.
  6. So then so far I have been seeing plenty of Lightning to my SE, E, SSW and SW along with many channel boomers being heard! I have been watching the 2 areas though that gap has been on track for my part of the island. However new showers developing in that gap, which I got a feeling could pop out some!
  7. Thanks mate apprciate the comment ? I do feel quite lucky to live in a place is so many insane views across all directions, Culver Downs, Brading Downs and Ventnor Downs are our go too spots normally, it really helps being a photographer too. I got this Photo from last July of some crazy storms, this hugeee Posi strike made my eyes water haha ? Fingers crossed for some good action later, could be potential anywhere along South Coast Tonight!
  8. Afternoon all! I was gonna post a bit earlier but I got a bit distracted. It has been another pretty fun Morning and early Afternoon, a lot of rain has fallen which had been heavy-very heavy for most of the time along with the odd torrential bursts. There were reports of Thunder early this Morning about 7amish but I slept through it. However the very back edge of the rain band had a nice little storm develop just to our SE. I was keeping an eye on it as had a feeling it was going to get a bit closer and produce some more. I was hearing thunder more frequently and getting a little louder. Managed to get close enough to hear some proper rumbles and seen some CC's but it stayed out just to our East. Was fun to see and hear though, took my opportunity for my daily walk to grab a couple of snaps. There were some interesting scenes as there was also a bank of low cloud looking over Ventnor and Shanklin downs, the bit of lighter sky between the storm and the bank of low cloud looked pretty cool ?. Unfortunately I had no proper camera on me this time so had to get my phone out.
  9. And It popped! Just West of Newport, it was blatently a CG from the deep boom at the end from the thunder! I've noticed these showers seem produce Lightning when they come a bit more clustered and compact! I shall definitely be watching Tomorrow closely, good luck to everyone!
  10. Cheers bud! There is a real intense cell passing just to our west now, literally gone white on the radar! Its a bit out of my view but can just lean my head out the window far enough like a weirdo haha.
  11. A fun little night Tonight, we haven't had any direct hits but have been watching loads of lightning from the window. A mixture of CGS and IC, a bit annoying there are houses blocking a fair bit of the view though! Keeping an eye on this ling going through the island and to our South right now which could let one or 2 closer strikes out hopefully.
  12. Good Evening all Well the majority of the day had been lovely with unbroken sunshine and lighter winds, has been on the chilly side whenever there is the odd gust, though out of it felt really pleasant. As the Afternoon went a mix of Cumulus, Altocumulus and Stratocumulus started to develop and drift down. Now it is almost completely overcast but with fairly light wind still. 13. Evening all Observations: A mostly fine day Today with more sunshine but also some cloudy periods at times, these are in the form of Stratocumulus but also some Cumulus from dying showers from the North East, which we managed to get a very very very light shower but was way too light to tell what it was trying to fall and it didn't accumulate. The wind Today however certainly feels cold and is quite strong too. Some nice sunshine at the moment, though some Cumulus and Stratocumulus still drifting over at times, still feeling really quite chilly with a continuous Fresh-Strong North East wind mostly. 14. Afternoon all, couldn't do my daily post yesterday as had some issues with the internet. Anyway we recorded our warmest day yesterday with a Max of 15.0'c at 16:12pm, was a lovely yesterday though with wall to wall sunshine and lighter winds. Today, a lot more cloud around, especially this Morning and up until about midday. The sun has come out more though during the Afternoon, though still with a lot of cloud at times, mainly in the form of Stratocumulus. The Wind has also picked up a little more this Afternoon too. 15. It is actually pretty crazy, we just had Humidity peak down to 22%! I think that the lowest or one of the lowest I have seen it! It is back up to 33% now. The air just feels so clean and the sky look so clean too
  16. Afternoon all, It has been another lovely day here and also feeling slightly warmer Today due to a lighter wind, still feels a tad on the chilly side on the very far East coast when exposed to the light to moderate wind. A line of cirrus has moved in the last hour and a half though, sun still shining! We were just 0.1'c from equalling our warmest day of the year, with it peaking at 12.7 so far and our highest is 12.8 which was on the 8th February. Temperatures rising a little though again the last 10 minutes, back up to 12.5'c. Actually no as I type this we have just hit 12.9 now it is the warmest day wheeyyy!! What is noticeable, the Dew points are excessively low! 17. Hi all, haven't posted for a while due to personal issues, ongoing bad mental issues and constant struggling with my stomach. Anyway feel in a bit a of better place recently, so thought it would be a good time to stay around and post more. Anyway onto the weather, Today's observations: A glorious day with unbroken sunshine through out, which has been the case for the last few days. On the chilly side down here though due to a constant pretty raw feeling ESE Wind coming in right off the sea, it does vary from SE at times though. I haven't seen a single cloud Today at all. Current conditions 15:22 Today's Highs and Lows Temperature: 10.1 .Temperatures: High 10.8'c (01:17am) Low: 7.6'c (5:47am) Dew Point: 0.7 .Dew Point: High 6.6 Low -1.4 Wind Chill: 8.7 .Highest Wind Gust: 21mph (10:35am) Average Direction ESE Wind Speed and Direction: 12mph from ESE .High Humidity 76% Low Humidity 46% Humidity: 52% .High Pressure: 1024.2mb Low Pressure: 1022.4mb Barometric Pressure: 1022.7mb .Today's Rainfall 0.0mm Rainfall: 0.0mm On the last day of each month I will do a Monthly overall High and Low section Sandown Bay, on my lonely daily walk ?

  20. Haha that is true, I have a habit of saying sorry ? Still some real heavy downpours at the minute, had another shower with Hail in about 15/20 minutes ago, things looking very interesting still as we head into this Evening and Tonight
  21. Okay apologise for another quick post, but I just had to share this, the back edge of the storm we just had. This Anvil looks amazing
  22. What a fun week this has been so far, especially yesterday and last night. Started with some real heavy downpours during yesterday Morning with some awesome cloud structures and rotation, looked as though a small funnel was trying to develop but never quite got there. The Afternoon became quiet for a time but still with some great looking cumulus which I could tell even at that point there was really strong shear, it wasn't long before the next wave of showers came in. This wave started around 5pm. I was watching this shower developing and getting stronger and stronger to my South approaching directly overhead. From where I was looking it went visible to no visibility as I could rain had turned torrential getting very close. This shower I got a couple of photos and footage of because it was such a beautiful shower despite no lightning at this point. The winds became very strong and was blowing from directions and I experienced some of the heaviest rain I've seen, including an incredible Rainbow right in front of my eyes. Im pretty confident it was a micro burst. After this it went quite for a few hours before yet another line of showers which some turned in storms edging closer and closer, North West of the island had a fair few decent strikes but was out of my view. It looked this lot wasn't gonna quite do it for my part, was about to go to bed until I heard a big crack of Thunder, went to look and seen another 3 close strikes 2 CG 1 CC with loud Thunder. EDIT: Crazy crazy showers here right we just had a proper decent little storm, 5/6 flashed with lots of loud rumbles! Just had some mad Hail too These photos and videos are from the Evening shower. 23. Do not want a repeat of last night what so ever. Food poisoning or Norovirus, was one them. Never felt so bad in my life! ? During this potentially last proper Heatwave too, gutting!

@Stormyking I caught norovirus at 3:30am on my trip and other people on the trip got it at a similar time too, so I would say it is more common to catch it at night.

@Nick L See I find Food poisioning very hard to tell sometimes, as I know there are so many different types, I know that some tend to affect more the lower part of the stomach as in the other way round ?some others tend to be more sickness. Though I am with you with norovirus as I know it is really really quickly an violent when it comes and complete throws people off but it stops just as quick as it comes on, such a strange evil illness for anyone ? . So far no one else in our house hold hasn't had anything at all, so at the minute I think I had Poisoning and I still really tender today still

@zmstorm Oh god yeah night time as well then, definitely does seem to a thing. I'm wandering if its something to do with the fact when people are relaxed and sleeping it allows for the body properly identify that there is problem inside that it fights an infection or bug easier. I might be all completely wrong haha

    4. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

I got the dreaded norovirus back on 29 January 2010.  But in my case it didn't come on suddenly and violently - for the first couple of days I was sick a couple of times overnight and otherwise felt okay, and thought it might have just been a bit of food poisoning.  Then from 1 February it really ramped up and I spent most of the following week in bed, as although the violent symptoms only lasted for three days, it took another few days after that to recover much of my energy.

A scary thought is that I could have spread it around a fair bit on the first two days because I was mostly okay and thought I might just have food poisoning, and so went about my daily life as normal, including going sledging on 30 January (yes, I was in Norwich and it snowed from the northerly) - although I wash my hands often and I wasn't puking while out and about, so hopefully I might have avoided spreading it to many people.

  24. Good Afternoon Weather observations since yesterdays report: Some Sunny spells for a time during yesterday Afternoon, but cloud soon came back in and was thick enough to give the odd light shower at times during late Afternoon and early Evening. As we moved in dark, most of the cloud broke up to allow some clearer skies for a time. This didn't last as more thicker cloud moved in with a front, this gave some more showery rain at times by the early hours. This Morning started mostly cloudy with the odd shower still but this quick cleared and some sunny spells developed again. By mid Morning it was quite nice which lasted through the Afternoonn, though has been quite a blustery day too. Went to Priory Bay which is near Bembridge on the far East Coast of the Island, it was absolutely lush round there, with a big wall of trees and woodland behind the Beach blocked the wind. Current: Back home in Sandown now and its sunny with some patch high cloud and cumulus at times, still quite blustery though here. Temperature's: Currently 19.8'c Yesterday's High: 24.1'c Today's High: 20.6'c Overnight Low: 16.8'c Humidity: 66% High Humidity: 96% Low Humidity: 60% Rainfall: 0.51mm Winds: WSW 17mph Gusting at: 27mph Highest Gust: 32mph Dominant Direction: WSW A couple of Images from Bembridge and Priory, mainly for waves
