Quite a range of uppers for Monday on the ensembles to be expected at this range. Some still show exceptional warmth with uppers around 24. Either way a warm and exceptional period of weather for some

Glorious summer weather on offer from the ECM then towards the end of the run. Seriously hot temps on the brink of southern England. I've seen worse summer charts

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but equally if that opinion is clearly nonsense others are entitled to treat it with the contempt i deserves. 74 mph at Hun airport, 70 mph widely in populated areas. 75 + is hurricane force. What the hell were you expecting from today? We dont live in hurricane alley, 70+ winds in populated areas is a huge event for this country. So yes express an opinion, but if it so clearly flies in the face of fact, expect ridicule.
another who as missed the point anyway discussion closed

You said majority in the south are getting 50-60, my main bone of contention is your underselling it. Still here is a total list of all stations above 60mph, note quite a few have not yet reported the figures for the previous hour!
- Mumbles (43 m)88 mph
- Cornwall Airport Newquay (103 m)81 mph
- Isle of Portland (52 m)81 mph
- St. Catherine's Point (24 m)81 mph

Except from that last part is flat out false, many reports between 60-70mph even as of 11am. Definate increase in winds has occurred since then so I expect to see more reports into the low 70s, which for inland S.Englakd IS rare.
Whats false? Away from the coasts at the moment in the london area its propb gusting 50-60 mph and i understand it may be rare but its not as severe as some are making out

Midlands is ahead of the peak winds, and the places that are peaking now are getting it very bad.
Not really ok i understnd 60mph winds are rough but for the majority at the moment thats the highest they are getting some of the posts are like armagedon is happening its rough yes and it may get worse but some of the posts

I'm guessing the widespread gusts of 70mph in the south and an English record wind gust aren't enough?
You were never going to get bad conditions in Manchester.
Nick widespread gusts in 70s the south ie devon etc are not un normal and a english record at the needles is yes impressive but its not indicative of England. Some of the reaction at the moment on this thread is alittle OTT it may get worse but at worst the majority are only seeing around 50-60mph gusts at the moment Its descending into hyperbole IMO

Definitely the north south divide in the reaction to this storm. Arwen was way worse for us here and we got on with it with no red warning and 2 days without power and water! Damaged fence down south and its the storm of the century.
still calm and bright here.
Lo yep i saw some of those posts. It may get worse but at the moment quite a reaction from some with 50mph winds Anything approaching 70mph then thats when it becomes severe

An "upgrade" for N Cornwall/N Devon in the next couple of hours, now forecasting well into the 90s
Sting jets still there on both AROME and ARPEGE 06Zs but the worst of it concentrated near S Lincs, The Wash and N Norfolk on AROME. ARPEGE takes it straight through Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Both suggesting 90 mph possible. But other spots in the SE could top 80mph too, particularly Kent and the coasts.
Yep comaprison Arp

Im sure this storm will pack a punch maybe 80 plus somewhere but i think for the majority 70mph will probably be the max nasty yes but im unsure it will warrant a red/amber in most areas. As always time will tell
