Your potential client had some nasty biases that will eventually get them nowhere.
Making selection decisions based on personal characteristics invalidates the objectivity that should characterise selection - we call it the "halo and horns effect". Select the best person for the job and both of you will be happy and productive. My last run of sessions in Dijon was on HR recruitment and selection, and some of the students had great tales of being treated appallingly during the processes.
