  1. Round two, torrential rain, wind howling. Have to do outside jobs today, not pleasant!
  2. Fairly wild night, lost power 10pm, now back on. A few trees down locally but the main issue was flooding from all that rain. Kendal traffic was a bit chocka this morning as M6 southbound shut due to 4 HGVs being blown over by Shap.
  3. 45mm of rain so far today, garden is sodden. Wind really starting to ramp up
  4. Ugh default weather resumes. Rain pouring down, just a few patches of snow and ice left. Tomorrow's storm is looking pretty potent, time to batten down the hatches!
  5. Yes awful winter for low levels but the best I've witnessed for the mountains. The lakeland fells did well but I climbed Ben Nevis in March 14, it was like the alps, snow metres deep, huge cornices and massive avalanches.
  6. -5.2C, clear skies. 50% snow cover now frozen solid, just waiting to hear if schools open
  7. Coming down thick and fast now, an inch cover. Wind has really picked up so snow swirling around. Proper midwinters day.
  8. A bone chilling day in that North wind. Already down to -4.5C, all the mud now freeze dried. Decent snow prospects for these parts tomorrow, we'll wait and see...
  9. Very impressive, enjoy it! I wonder how much there is on Coniston Old Man?! We ended up with 3 inches which I'm happy with, already built a snowman with my daughter! Yes the lack of wind is lovely, everything is silent and much more pleasant for little ones to be outside in.
  10. What a way to start the winter! Xmas tunes on, family decorating the tree, snow falling outside. Not as epic as other parts of cumbria, just 2cms but looks like more to come
  11. Round 3. Torrential rain but not much thunder. It's been about 5 hours now of hearing thunder either close by or in the distance. Impressive end to this heatwave.
  12. More torrential rain and thunder, being spoilt today! Ooh couple of big rumbles rolling around the fells, brightening up now.
  13. That was a decent storm, thought it would pass to the west of here but seemed to veer east and got a direct hit! Plenty of thunder and lightning. Even though the main summer was poor it was bookended by cracking heatwaves and thunderstorms.
  14. Torrential rain started here, a few booms of thunder. The main party seems to be west of here through the Lakes!
  15. Walking through the woods here, lots of birch trees shedding their leaves, perfectly normal at this time of year but very strange in this baking heat. Feels like July out there! Off to the river soon for a cooling swim.
  16. Can't believe how bad this summer has turned out after June. Currently hammering it down and has been pretty much all day, thankfully the rest of the week is looking pleasant. Plenty of signs of autumn out there now.
  17. What a boring weekend of constant rain. Feel sorry for anyone on a camping summer holiday!
  18. Torrential rain, plenty of booming thunder after a hot sunny day, Perfect summer sunday!
  19. Can see the top of that storm heading towards Blackpool, some 50 miles away. Looks like we'll miss the rain again, had a short shower yesterday evening but ground still bone dry, was yet another baking hot day. What a start to summer this year!
  20. Can hear the storm over the Yorkshire dales rumbling away, had about four spots of rain here. The drought continues...
  21. Such a different feel to the past few weeks, that strong wind is very warm, reminding me of last summer. Desperate for rain now, our private water spring is down to a trickle. 30 days without a drop of rain.
  22. 28 days without a drop of rain now, very rare for these parts. Must have had about 20 sunset evenings in a row, almost getting boring now!
  23. Yet another sunny day! 21 days now since the last rainfall, and still looking dry into next week. A lovely spell of weather at the best time of year for it.
