.....and what's the cloud situation!?!
Clear as a bell. Not even any tiny bits of high level cloud. The bit of sky i can see from my office anyway.

It's 38.1C at our office and I just sat outside to eat my lunch. Even if I was on holiday, by the pool with an ice cold beer I would be finding this too hot!
I went outside 30 mins ago to check on cloud, and the wind is quite strong and feels as hot as a hairdryer.

Suspect 40c has been broken about...now. This really is a momentous day folks.
Stepping outside and knowing I'm here for the first time the UK has ever hit 40c is surreal and amazing.I work at Heathrow. If it reaches 40 I'm going outside to soak it in. I may seem weird, but I don't care haha. Life is all about experiences no matter how small.

Lovely to be surrounded by fresh Polar Maritime Air. Oh how I've missed you.

Just as I was hoping for some wind and rain, it looks like staying dry, settled and warm for the foreseeable.
I do really dislike September and the nothingness it seems to bring.

Went for my normal lunch break walk, and it felt quite chilly in the shade. Liking the potential in FI for some wet and windy weather.

Any month that is hot and dry is the dullest for me. I much prefer wet and windy over wet and dry.

I know these get posted at times, but I'm not sure they're any more reliable than cannon fodder. A flip from below average to a much warmer than average December from the last run to the current run. I guess though you could keep looking at them each day and see how many more cold vs warm anomalies are forecast on them?
They are only cannon fodder when showing above average

Well both the Glosea and ECM winter forecasts are going for +ve NAO to dominate and a mild and wet winter. Think that's a safe enough bet, go with the form horse. I'll assume the worst and hope for the best.
This is very good news indeed as it means winter will be the complete opposite

Looks like the UK Record has gone after all. Met office just tweeted that they have received a provisional recording of 38.7c @ Cambridge Botanical gardens. Still needs to be verified but looking good.

Cambridge 38.1c at 1600 hrs met office just tweeted.
Sadly I do not think the all time record will be broken.

Probably. Dan tells me he has no way of knowing whether it's rounded-up to 38 from, say 37.6 or something, or whether its rounded-down.
I have always been under the impression that decimal points are rounded up.

37.2c at Heathrow 1400 hrs

Cloud now back at Heathrow
-
Ive got a feeling the all time record isn't going to be broken. To much cloud around in the all important places

Paris has just set a new record of 40.6c.
My nearest met office site @ RAF Benson has also just broken its all time record of 35.6c set in Aug 1990. It is currently 36c there.

That cloud shouldn't last long at all, its the left over from the decayed showers that came up from the channel, will go back to clear skies soon enough (like 15-20 mins I'd guess based on what happened here, I can see it trundle off to the north of here still.
Trouble is there looks like another area of cloud not far behind this one. Still the cloud seems to be staying West of London for now. So still good for E.Anglia
