Maxs of 5C forecasted tomorrow which in end to end clear blue skies and sunshine is very impressive indeed, shows just how cold the airmass is getting advected over us tonight with very cold low level air entrained, watch temps drop like a stone as soon as the sun starts to go down tomorrow afternoon
I wouldn't be surprised to see some 2C to 3C maxs tomorrow in isolated spots.
That sounds exciting.

I feel like an unwanted guest at the end of a wedding party posting in this forum. The bride and groom have already left the building and the catering staff are clearing away the glasses. In the words of Elves, the snow has left the building. See you all next year.

At the moment its hard to envisage where any rain will come from, never mind low pressure systems delivering rain and strong souwesterlies and by the same token without active lows its difficult to imagine a northerly occuring.
I know this isn't strictly to do with model watching but I thought I should mention in reply to this post that it has been raining for most of the day here, and it is still raining right now.

The most likely reason is because a majority of members join for the winter months, and then leave until next winter, because the weather at the moment is to be fair not at all interesting, nothing active is happening.
It's been unbroken sunshine here all day, that's active enough for me. Lovely.

My "pleasant in the sun" comment was a little tongue in cheek Eugene so calm yer jets big man!!
There is as much sign of Elvis returning to earth as there is of spring.
You don't have to apologise to these people for feeling warm in the sun, it's not some kind of weather blasphemy to mention the warm word.
All the smokers at our place today were sitting out in the yard soaking up the sun. None of them were wearing coats, wooly hats and gloves. It was WARM. See I said it and I haven't been struck down by the weather Gods.

It's difficult to say- I have a feeling that there would be a flood of posts returning to these threads if we were to get another Easter like that of 2008- not as many as if the same thing happened in January, but snow events will always attact some attention from some people regardless of the time of year. There were some very intensely-used snow potential threads during that particular Easter.
However I agree that they've slowed down a lot and to be honest I'm a little disappointed- I'd hoped they'd be a nice outlet for weather interest in general and wouldn't become barren when there wasn't any snow on the horizon! Anticyclonic weather is not always boring- the 8th-20th February 2008 in particular sticks out for its haze-related effects and stunning sunsets.
I think if the pro cold and snowy brigade that have now jumped ship had been a little less dismissive of the members who just enjoyed a bit of weather of whatever variety was on offer, and incidentally the extreme brigade were usually backed up by the moderators, we might not have seen such a massive decline in the traffic to this website. Just my humble opinion.

Yep you can now feel some warmth from the sun. Just picked the wife up from work and was surprised how many people were not wearing a coat and some just a t-shirt ( not that warm yet for the latter)
I think we are now turning the corner and leaving winter behind. or you could say'' the fat lady is now singing.
Just back from a stroll along the cliffs and there is no need for a coat. I wonder when these "Cold Spell" discussions will be closed?

No snow, forum slow.
The sun is most certainly getting warmer by the day. The beach is getting busier, and the layers of clothing are getting less and less. I hadn't realised how much I had missed the warmth of the sun.

Yep, amazingly cold winter up north and almost as cold as 62-63, not at all far short at all!
Also worth noting that its probably the 2nd coldest winter up there in the last 110 years at least, stunning and shows just how amazing this winter has been up there!
Even for further south in England, thats an amazing turnaround to what we saw in 2007-08, also the fact it beats every single one of the so caled 'historic' 80s winters should prove this really was a historic winter, anyone who argues with that just isn't looking at the facts.
I think it must have been an amazing winter for everywhere in the UK except where I live where we had a very average winter.

Lucky you john!!
my in-laws have a caravan about 40 yards from the beach @ chapel st Leonard's near skegness.
Nothing better than reading the News of the world on a sunny, Sunday -spring morning knowing the beach is only 40 yards away.
Will be taking a trip up there soon ( 1st of march the caravan park re-opens) just hope spring will come smashing in.
Woke up to an absolutely glorious morning, beautiful blue skies an unbroken sunshine. This is much more like it.

Very quiet on this forum tonight so I thought I would give my own personal view on the winter of 2009/10.
For my area the model output discussion thread promised much, but in reality delivered very little. We had a few centimetres of snow for a couple of days, and some quite chilly weather. Other areas of the UK might have had a winter to remember but we didn't. The one saving grace is I live 50 yards from the beach so the late spring and summer are a delight.

By the same token mainland Europe is often referred to as Continental Europe. eg. Europe which I believe includes France and Spain.
Glad you agree.
-
Try telling that to the Spanish and French and to those families that have lost loved ones. It didnt happen here and it was quite right for the agencies concerned to issue warnings.
Did you not see the bit where I wrote "For anyone living in mainland Europe ignore this."
Or wasn't you aware that Spain and France are part of mainland europe?
-
For anyone living in mainland Europe ignore this.
If the "storm" that crossed the UK today had attended a Secondary School for Storms it would have had its dinner money stolen on a daily basis. If this "storm" was sun bathing on a beach it would have had sand kicked in its face by proper storms. This "storm" was an embarrassment to all well brought up storms.
-
Sorry, I think that was little harsh of me and I really wish I left it now.
I suppose the storm was still exaggerated a little, and that it's not been the only time a storm has turned out to be not quite as bad as expected.
Your reply was perfect, it wasn't your post I was talking about.

I feel it was quite obvious what fatyido was trying to say, so I don't think there was any need for the personal attack on him. Some people do like to hide behind their computer screens and throw insults.

Our wind almost went as high as "Gentle Breeze" a few minutes ago.
-
With the wind coming directly from the North here we would on a normal day expect it to be very windy. Incredibly today with this low the winds are moderate to light. Strange. The highest gust today is still only 29mph.
-
On Friday we had wind gusts here on the cliffs exceeding 50mph. So far today our strongest gust has been 29mph.
-
A bit like a wet weekend in Lowestoft. In fact that's exactly what it is. Stay calm. No need for the SOS signal here. Just a bit of rain.

Oh well the regional place is now closed, all shutting up for the year now it's warming up. Strange to see the Cold Spell Discussion still open, but without it I wouldn't be able to say it's strange to see the Cold Spell Discussion still open. Goodbye.
