  1. I have since updated my post, with current solent readings. As I say means of 30-35 today gusting 50mph
  2. Models as of Friday - windspread means of 40 to 50mph right across south - justifiable warning if this happened. Huge gusts as below:- Lastest runs 36-40means along coast only, 20 inland. This is not too much different from now. Yes I love a storm but get serious guys it is no longer happening...
  3. Something has to give soon. Met office is sticking to its severe storm warming, (probably waiting for a big news story to happen so they can quietly removed them.) The models I have looked at do not support it. As a windsurfer have been using the GFS for years and it is the best for weather coming in off the atlantic. Yes it will be windy for a 3 hour period but nothing exceptional for this time of year, certainly no where near a 1987 storm. Seems most on here are taking the media and other warnings as gospel without digging deeper to look at the models to see if there is any evidence of this. This storm has been downgraded run by run now for the last 24hours. This will turn out to be another bad day for the met office who issue out warnings as quickly as doctor dish out anti-biotics for common colds.
  4. Can someone outside Hampshire remind me what this thing called "rain" is, that keeps getting mentioned.
  5. Looking at the GFS charts not quite sure why they are calling this a breakdown. Overall temps getting into the mid 20's every day and pretty much dry right up till Sunday. Slightly cooler than late but still above average. Breakdown not, just easing off throttle.
  6. Not had any rain here in Basingstoke for weeks now, garden opening up into large cracks. don't know what happen to all these storms, not a sniff of one round here. Sun beating down still 23deg on weather station
  7. North Hampshire has had snow for most of the morning, most forecasts were only for sleet/rain, so maybe they should have paid more attention to it
  8. Been wet snow since 7am this morning heavy at times, nothing settling. Last hour turning increasing sleety
  9. Very windy here, actually feels colder than it has all week with the wind chill. No sign of next winter spell in the models at the moment.
  10. Well, the PPN has arrived and it is rain, not a sign of a snow flake, the fat lady is in full voice, its been a good week tho
  11. Any snow anyone gets will be short lived and will soon all turn to rain. Temps rising all the time.
  12. Well, cold spell nearing the end. Lying snow now for past 7 days. At least 5 days out of 7 day snow fell in varying amounts. Not a bad spell and still time for another this winter.
  13. The weather today as forecast really. The sun tried to make an appearance mid afternoon, so cloud cover must be thin, temperatures should plummet now. Maybe finally the ground will finally freeze as grass and soil still really soft under the snow, hence the thaw.
  14. snow is now getting thicker not sure I would class as light. Also the system seems to be rotating further south than forecast to my eyes, might be just wishful thinking
  15. steady light snow here 9-11, easied slightly after 11 but now coming down again. probably max of 3-4 mm in 3 hours
  16. Here in North Hants the temp is still below or close to freezing, snow off the ground is not melting, but ground snow is slowly melting as ground never got any hard frosts before this event and mud is soft not frozen. Temps should peak in next few hour before going down again
  17. Hard to see if it is still snowing or just already fallen snow blowing.
  18. Looking at the radar, this band does not look that heavy and is fading fast. Think all these warning are completely over the top.
  19. Not having spent much time studying rain fall radar or being an expect, but it appears as soon as that front to the West is hitting landfall it really intensifies. What is the science behind this with the current set up?
  20. Wife has just got to work just north of M4 Newbury and claims an inch there already.
  21. Is this not a bit of a ramp, looking at the radar at the mo the band south of ireland does not look that wide or intense. Will it build as it comes in?
