    Updates Thursday 11.17pm

    Medway Council is working with Kent Police and partner agencies on a limited evacuation of up to 300 properties in some areas of Medway. 

    This action has been taken on the advice of the Environment Agency and their latest modelling of the flood risk in the area.

    A door-to-door evacuation is taking place in the following streets:

    StroodCanal RoadKingswear GardensWingrove DriveCranmere CourtSmith StreetCuxton RoadKnight RoadAlma StreetCharles StreetCommercial RoadRoach Street

    RochesterDoust WayHathaway Court (off Esplanade)

    Residents living in these areas only are advised to evacuate their properties immediately.

    When evacuating, please ensure your property is secure, including switching off any gas and electricity supply.  Please take any necessary items with you, including medication.

    Where possible residents are advised to family or friends' properties outside the affected roads. If this is not possible they should go to the rest centre that has been established at Strood Leisure Centre by Medway Council.

    If you have been told to evacuate and choose not to go to the rest centre or elsewhere, please make sure you inform relatives.

  2. SEVERE FLOODING' WARNING2254:

    The Environment Agency has issued a severe flooding warning in Suffolk, warning of potential "danger to life".

    The warning covers Orford Ness to Bawdsey, including Butley.

    The forecast high water is due at 23:00.

    Flooding is expected for harbourside properties in Orford and properties in Butley, Shingle Street and surrounding marshland, the Environment Agency said.

  3. I think that because of the recent storm just gone this coming depression for tomorrow night doesn't seem that much.

     

    But I destinctly remember a time last November when coastal 70mph gusts were forecast and 50mph inland, and there was a lot of talking about it then as we hadn't had a recent 70-80mph inland gusts producing storm. Don't forget that the storm on Monday was probably a once in 6 year event for us here down the south.

     

    So in all honesty, I think quite a few will be suprised at how strong the winds will be tomorrow evening.

    I agree going to be a very windy day. If the pressure of the low was to drop further than predicted could turn out messy. Was out running today and lots of loose branches still hanging in trees and whole trees leaning, these could easierly be finished off by 50mph gust. These sort of gusts could also be around for up to 6 hours.
