  1. Temp has stayed static at 2.4c, dewpoint is close -2c. for last hour, started raining 45 mins ago. So it look like the issue is with the 850s (only -1c) and thickness - 540 I believe. The ground temp will still be close to freezing, as much of it is still snow/ice covered, so treacherous!!
  2. Rain and Snow are very different beasts............ Essentially, it is very easy for it to rain here in the UK, i.e. jet stream, Atlantic flow, upper air temp, dew points, etc. etc. etc but For it to Snow a lot of specific atmospheric conditions need to be perfect, not just related to elevation. As you can see on the current radar http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ there is a huge mass of precip moving across the UK with huge amounts of energy coming off the Atlantic, the DP's, Cold Block, Upper air temps would need to be a lot colder for this to be an ALL snow event. If you remember, over the last few weeks, most of our snow has come from showers from the east/ north east/ north or from low pressure systems moving across through the 'cold pool' In all instances, the area of precipitation was relatively small compared with 'Rain' fronts which blast in from the Atlantic Forecasting rain is fairly easy and a fairly safe bet from the models but doing the same for snow is very 'Hit and Miss' with smaller areas of decaying showers or frontal precipitation Still, with the layman's science out of the way, whether or not it snow in your back yard is always frustrating.......since a kid I've cursed so many in surrounding areas to my location who always seem to get 'MORE SNOW'
  3. Rich, you will be back here the next time the beeb mention snow, the weather, specifically snow, is an obsession for many, which is why we are all here now, but the forum dies in the spring!! Seasons Greetings for now, unless you pop in to take a look at what may occur on Friday!!
  4. Well, it was as low as 5 miles south of MK, as we got another 3 inches here this morning, and they 4 inches up in Leicester, so quiet a wide band.
  5. My phone went flat,, cause of all the chat we had whilst I was on my way down this morning, charger was in my bag, which I did not take!! doh Good job I did not have an emergency
  6. Working from home tomorrow and Friday, then off until the 5th Jan.......Wahoo
  7. Started to snow again in MK Enough now......be careful what you wish for.................
  8. What a day…..I left Milton Keynes at 8.30 am this morningfor an appointment in Stevenage, very lightgrauple falling, by the time I got to the A421 it was falling as large flakesvery heavily. Radar showed on a small blob of precip! By the time I passed Bedford,it stopped snowing, the rest of the journey was fine, just very slow on the 421and A1, Stevenage had some light snow at 10.30by the time I arrived. left at 12.00 to return home............. Everything was fine on A421 until 5 miles passed Bedford, when the snow started again and clear to see 3-4 inches had fallen of the 5-6from Sat, Then, Queuing traffic......A421 closed by police due to accident, wewere ushered off to the old 421, which was backed up all the way to M1 due tojack knife lorry on slip road of M1. I took the back road through Cranfield, roads were completelycovered white, 4 inch covering, still snowing lightly….Just outside of Cranfield,2 car accident, road closed, ambulance, police.....had to wait over an hour forrecovery vehicle, which was sliding everywhere. Eventually home at 15.00!! In the virgin snow areas, prob about 8 inches laying, as thefresh snow is wetter and pressed down on the 6.5 inches that fell on sat.All roadsin MK are a nightmare, Ive seen a couple of snow plough sorting out the H's andV's, big snow troughs on all other roads, cars abandoned all over Should have stayed at home and radar watched, appointmentwas a waste on time!! More precip heading this way if it does not fizzle outbefore, looks like a laying white xmas in MK
  9. Again, im in Stevenage all week, so I need you to ramp up the marginality for the south of the region please!
  10. It was funny, posting mild wishings and no snow reports on various regional threads, but seriously.. GET A LIFE !! This is a regional discussion ' COLD SPELL DISCUSSION' within the 'WINTER DISCUSSION' thread of the Forum. Keep posting if you want to continue to look like an idiot...... I double dare ya !!
  11. Cant believe my luck, moved from Kettering to MK last year, Kettering gets a good dump today/tonight. Then, tonight, Im in Stevenage and MK gets snow, and Stevenage, which always gets more than MK, gets none, rained hard all day here, not even a single sleet flake Rubbbbiisshhhhhhhhh...
  12. They need to start nowcasting, it is that marginal, we saw this in Jan and the beeb took a hamering on this forum.
  13. I dont really want to go, Id rather be in the office in MK, but this is one of those times when I have to be somewhere!! That line of heavey precip is not moving anywhere fast, it is just sitting there with its NW edge stretching from Reading, to Luton to Cambridge. When is it supposed to be on the move, already if the beeb are to be believed.
  14. Bad news for me as Ive got to be in Stevenage for 8am!! who says us consultants dont work hard. if your up, I am leaving at 6.30, so text me conditions please mate. It is bone dry here, so if the precip. does get here and it is wintry, it may settle quick as it is 1.2 oC at the mo.
  15. That was nuts, 8.45 it was knocking on your door, 9.00 fizzled out!! The Northants snow shield must set to maximum I know it can snow in Northampton, many a happy snow day as a youngster had in N'pton, snow tut top o wellies!! Yep, it'll come next week, but even I'd rather be in the Canaries, soaking up some warm rays, enjoying a cold one, not thinking about work!!!! Enjoy
  16. Nice blob on rain today radar about to hit Northampton, I hope you get at least a dusting
  17. Well you know it will snow all day, every day next week in Milton Keynes....cause I'm in Stevenage every day!! Fancy Project Managing the huge install for me and I'll do some hunting for you lol :-) The fact is, when you want it to snow, expect it to snow or wait for snow, it doesn't come, when you take your eye off the radar and the forum for 24 hrs...... Whoomp there it is!! as the chorus goes
  18. Hellul Mate, had a very Heavy 15 min snow shower at 7pm, got about 1.5-2cms everywhere, even on the dual carrigeways, and its stuck as the council have not gritted...again..... down to -2.1C now. few more smaller showers coing across on the radar but that prob the best of it. If the sun come out again in the morning, it wont be long before its all gone as the you could really feel the UV strength in the sun today, you can tell its feb, not jan!! like the look of that trough.....c'mon
  19. HHmmmm. All very quite here in the middle of nowhere. Is this gonna be another one of those cold spells when we here in the middle, and I mean IMBY will be left feeling jelous , looking longingley at other posters pictures and reading posts on how "it was so deep I could not get out of my front door" or will it, this time, just maybe give us lot here a 'good ol dumpin' like in them days when we were small and the snow came in over the top of our wellies!! Please can we all pray together to the Snow Gods and get some shifted our way next week. That said, on a glass half full note, it WILL be cold next week, with frosts, the parks, rivers and lakes will all loook pretty, and it is better than the big old mild atlantic. Oh and I do know that it praying does not make it snow...............it just fills in the time betweeen lampost watching and waiting for the next sn shower See you all on Monday/Tues when things start to get tasty and we all keep switching between the regionals and the output threads.
  20. Oooohhhh. The thought of a cracking Thorm or Electric Storm. It makes me tingle. Cheers
  21. Look East actually mentioned the 'front' pushing west across the region tonight and leaving the west (MK) lunch time tomorrow. Although is was suggested to be a Wintery Mix!! It must fall as snow at these temps... minus 1.5 outside and falling steadliy. It is not often Look East get it right, so this may be there 1 in 10!! Have fun in the hot sun next week while we enjoy the cold :-)
  22. Snowing here in MK, about 1cm, everything is covered. Temp is -0.2 The slush is solid ice under the thin layer of snow, so side roads will be dangerous. Not enough snow to have a snow day though
  23. Radar shows it turning to sleet, is that the case? http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
