  1. Storm thread say the 12Z have downgraded this for the SE later max gusts inland now max of 50-60 mph, looks like not as bad as anticipated EDIT - Although I think everyone is just waiting to see how it plays out...lets be honest until it happens...it is an estimate as always :-)
  2. Taking Shape http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-4.96,40.70,1115 (Link taken from Cyclonics post in the storms thread)
  3. What is the general consensus re tomorrow's storm, re track and intensity, does this still have the ability to spring a surprise tomorrow or downgrade at the last minute.....or is it pretty much nailed on now?
  4. Looks like we dodged the bullet in our neck of the woods today, it sounds horrendous on the west/north west at present, saw a fax chart on the storms thread for us on Friday......not liking the look of that one bit!!! Hope everyone caught in those strong winds stay safe!
  5. Breezy in Thaxted, Essex...nothing more not gusty at all. About 2 hrs of steady rain and thats about it, dry now...looks like we have been lucky here :-)
  6. Local look east forecast just has 20mph winds for weds/Thursday? Obviously they are not unduly worried by the winds at this stage? As for Eric Pickles head and knob spring to mind!
  7. That might be the best idea, I only got within about a mile of Finchingfield itself and dunmow is pretty badly flooded as well if your coming in from the A120 side, thankfully there are about 4 ways out of Thaxted where I work, so managed to find a relatively dry route out last night....Monday May be a different matter altogether!Beer stopped play eh? Good work!! 😀ðŸ‘
  8. Had to take a detour to work Friday morning, didn't even get as far as Finchingfield (before and after photos attached), I think I may have struggled after the bridge if I had!
  9. My stab at a bit of weather poetry (no laughing!) Snow no-go, Low after low The rain is a pain, overflowing drains Floods and gales, Broken rails It will dry up soon (probably June!) Wettest in years, so we hear Models depressing, patience testing Roll on summer, winters a bummer! Stay safe all, this pattern has got to break soon.....I have faith!!! (Or a stubborness to accept defeat!)
  10. Eventful journey from Braintree to Thaxted this morning, flooding on backroads upto 2ft deep so wasnt going to chance it...had to go the long way in! Local small streams in Dunmow area are no longer a nice feature to look at... as they appear to be overtopping now (haven't seen that before)...will be eventful on the way home methinks!! What do we reckon for the 'worse than 87' storm coming our way (I know...another De-press headline), even if the winds are 50mph+ with all the saturated ground we may be loosing a few trees this weekend? - Surley theres no grain of truth in the headline...is there?? Stay safe all :-)
  11. Apparently HRH said there's nothing like a disaster to get things moving....sad but true!Wind starting to pick up now, no rain...but it's knocking on the door
  12. I can't lamppost watch anymore, poxy council turn them off at midnight now!! EDIT - that may not be a bad thing this winter!!!
  13. Just to put the mockers on any snow whatsoever this winter, can I join the measuring team on behalf of Braintree (who's snowshield is that good it seems to be covering the whole of the country for the whole of winter up until now!) Perhaps we should start a rain depth cup (or bucket!)
  14. BBC News just mentioned Sundays wind and rain event will be a 'notch down' in regards to both wind and rain compared with today/recent lows.....am I missing something as I thought Sundays event was to be as severe if not worse than today's/previous? Although (don't get me wrong) I hope they are right as I'm fed up with these lows now and people getting flooded out is horrendous
  15. Thanks Yamkin....could this intense energy have been predicted/factored in? Or has this been overlooked on the forecasts? If gusts reach/exceed 70mph in the SE in the next few hours, people are going to wake to damage and questions (I'm sure) will be asked?
  16. I think you are right, this seems to be winding itself up, tarps in my back garden covering bits and pieces, that easily coped with Mondays wind have just taken flight!!
