Greater Manchester and North Cheshire / modest heights and SE’ly wind = DRY. Even if it’s cold enough just watch the precipitation disappear once we get within the high-res. If it’s cold enough, west of the region is best plus high ground elsewhere. IMBY - not that interested in this one. Would delighted to be wrong.

I’m gonna give this spell 7/10. A rare snowfall for central Manchester and it was so special seeing the city turn into a winter wonderland. Would have scored it higher if the snow had lasted a bit longer, that pesky mild sector! Nice to wake up to another dusting this morning and to see the frozen Manchester Bolton & Bury canal covered in snow, pic below. Can’t wait for the area to be developed and for that area to turn into a little park. I also think I might get this photo framed: the skyscrapers disappearing into a snowy mist.

00z GFS and WRF looking quite promising for later @Chris.R is it the 2km model you look at and rate? That one shows quite a heavy batch of snow showers moving through the NW. Arome, Arpege and Harmonie all have the showers too but perhaps more isolated/lighter. UKV shows nothing except for the Wirral coast. Again a good test of the high-res models. The MetO aren’t interested as their model isn’t going for it. Not expecting much if anything here but if WRF is correct you never know! I was reading about the WRF model and it is allegedly very good at predicting convective events/precip.

Quick summary of tomorrow night from the high-res models. 18z GFS - light snow showers moving through the region 5-10pm . No accumulations. 18z WRF - a band of heavy snow showers move through the region tomorrow evening, clearing my midnight. A cm or two in places. 18z Arome - downgrade from 12z , a few snow showers in the west of the region tomorrow evening, Also a few snow showers clipping the Merseyside coast tonight too. 18z Arpege - snow mainly confined to western parts of the region however becoming more widespread Friday morning, possibly very light covering in places 18z HARMONIE - heavy snow showers tomorrow evening weakening as they move SE across the region, heaviest across Cumbria 18z ICON - similar to Harmonie WRF is by far the keenest for snow. A case of west is best I think
