  1. There has been a lot of snow, and the area just west of Dublin has been extremely cold.

Trains are currently suspended on the Maynooth-Dublin rail-line for instance, due to recent snowfall.

Flights are currently suspended at Dublin airport also.

Check out AA Roadwatch for latest info.

    Thanks for the info!

Sorry I forgot to say I am driving from Glasgow, getting the ferry to Belfast then driving down from there to Maynooth. As long as the roads are clear we should be fine I hope!

Lots of snow up here in Glasgow but the roads are clear so I hope the roads are the same over there :D

  2. Morning all, just woke up to a nice fresh supply of snow once again :)

I am traveling to Dublin later today to visit family over there, I will be driving down to Stranraer to get the ferry then driving from Belfast into Dublin.

Can anyone tell what the roads and the weather will be like later this afternoon and evening?

    Cheers :)

  3. Thats a lot of snow developing over the north of the country. With the really cold uppers flowing over still relatively warm waters its a bit like the lake effect snow you see around the Great Lakes. Its being pushed in on quite a strong North Easterly wind.

Normally I'd say there would be little chance of any of it reaching Central/Southern Scotland and would get eaten up by the mountains but it doesnt seem to breaking up much and theres plenty more behind it. Its on a path down the A9.

    Might be worth a watch!

I was thinking that myself, I have enough snow as it is but I am just a bit greedy and want more more more!:D

  4. I have relatives that live in the Faroe Islands, and was doing thr weekly phone call a short time ago. I was talking to them about the cold weather - maybe because they are all coastal there - but they have not had the snowfall that we have had. It's been cold, but not as cold as here.

I was asking them about current conditions, (as what we are expecting tomorrow is heading over them just now) and basically they never got much out of it, and what they did get was sleet, although it turned more to snow up the mountains. They also think that the temperatures rose slightly when the band hit.

So hopefully it does intensify between there and here or it could be a disappointment.

Hmmmm, that doesn't sound to promising.

  5. Hi fellow Scots!

My name is Robert, 21 from Barrhead, Glasgow.

I just noticed someone has the name as me, they are cookie and I am c00kie, I hope your ok with that, hehe (just call me Rob or Rab) :cold:

I have been reading this forum for a while now and have decided to join in the fun. I really love the weather, it really fascinates me. I really love cold weather, snow, thunderstorms and tornadoes. I plan to go storm chasing sometime in the next few years, I loved reading the forum from the storm chase team, it makes me jealous and wish I was there :cold:!!!

I am enjoying this cold spell we are having just now, loving the snow and sledging. I have lots of pics of the recent snow that I will upload for others to see soon.

I am still a novice when it comes to reading weather charts, models etc, but I know there is lots of info and help on this forum and I will learn with time.

    Cheers, Rob
