  1. And there was me thinking I was the only one going to be doing this!!!!....so far, we've been starved of the white stuff and as a result I'm on a right downer!!! Mr. Paul Hudson on the local BeeB said we might see some tonight or overnight, but I'm not holding my breath .....but one thing's fer sure.....it's literally bone chillingly cold out there :cold:
  2. Hello again jacobob, sry had to go yesterday as I would of responded to your post earlier. There seems to be a lot of interest on the model output in respect of this cold spell and I'm well and truly glued to it all!!!.....I am hoping we can experience some good snowdrifts to form as is being hinted at for possibly the weekend and next week...if the models verify that is!!. Would luv to go up Castle Hill after a good snowfall, especially if theres been some strong wind and drifting....I bet it's great fun up there in winter. I've lived in Huddersfield for about 5 years now and still havent been up to castle hill yet!!!.....It's good in Summer too isnt it?!! I just hope Huddersfield gets it's fair share ofsnow to lower levels too.....as higher elevations looking more favoured for any decent snowfall.
  3. great!, I'll get me thermals out an me wellies at the ready then!!!. I've been folowing (or trying to!!) the Model Outputs and there definately seems to be some definate possibilities of some very disruptive snowfall. There also seems to be growing agreement that this cold and very cold could last for some time.....here's looking forward to a white Christmas again??. I think I my interest in the world/weather started around the Seventies.....and Eighties, the latter I remember well, I think it was 85? (not got a great memory!) when we had 6ft snowdrifts and cold like I've never since experienced!!....I lived in South Wales at the time.
  4. Ok, feel a little more assured!!!....how do you think this cold spell will pan out for us living in west yorkshire?...I'm an absolute novice and try to follow the model output thread in all of its complexities and from what I can gather so far, the charts that are showing now are truly exceptional for the time of year?, if you know a bit more than me (and you probably do!!) I would apreciate your thoughts as I have seen you post on the model output thread?....that is, in between the 'off topic' comments
  5. I hear what you say about the hype on 2012, but, there is a reason for the hype?....I honestly believe that Scientist (not all) could be doing this to try to get us to listen?....i prefer to err on the side of caution and although dont consider myself to be an alarmist or get carried away with 'hype' the more I read about our climate the more alarmed I become ...!!!!!....tis not looking good is it?....it's almost as if Mother Earth is saying to us ' you dont honestly expect to get away with stripping me bare and bleeding me dry do you'!!.... In respect of the article I read re the climate change/shift in Siberia, it was a very long and sometimes complicated description relating to the release of Methane gas at a 'PERILOUS' rate, and went on to say that it could trigger the Global Climate Shift....you really have to read it, but be warned, it is not painting a pretty picture and after reading it all sorts of things are starting to cross my mind ......anyway (intake of breath).....worrying times ahead re Korea situation.(eeeek!!) I'm nr Leeds rd (Bradley)
  6. Thanks for your reply jacobob, I thought it might of been hype!!....not looking good for Mother Earth is it?....I'm not surprised she's upset and wanting some payback!!....I will be keeping an eye on those 'buoys' around the UK for a while!!. I have now just read theres been a climate change/shift in Siberia, and its being classed as an Emergency!!...some Russian Scientist has just reported this today on the 'RSOE EDIS' website....must admit, when I read this my toes started to curl!!...you may also notice that there has been renewed Volcanic Activity being reported.........am I being a bit too panicky????
  7. Please forgive me if this is off topic, but I have just read on the 'badoo' 2012 webpage that there has been a sudden drop in sea surface temps around the globe, has anyone else heard or read this?...its only been posted on their site tonight and its got me a little anxious!
  8. Just found this snippet reported in the New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/cwire/2010/10/22/22climatewire-the-arctic-shifts-to-a-new-climate-pattern-i-86771.html,.
  9. have youhttp://www.independe...ce-2390136.html seen this?;
  10. Thanks to all for your recent post, I actually find gw's post very informative and pretty well balanced, even to a novice like me!!......but me heads well and truly mashed......information overload I think!!. re 'tipping points', I truly believe we have reached quite a few of these in relation to our climate and I'm not liking what I'm reading. Why must we bleed mother nature dry and strip her bare?......maybe it's her way of telling us that there is a price to pay now that we have/are doing this.......we seem to be seeing signs of this already.
  11. We do indeed nimbilus, the evidence is everwhere if you look hard enough. It's the same old thing, they wont aknowledge something unless it has already happened...otherwise, it's an educated guess. There seems to be evidence in favour of both warming and cooling of the planet, but I for one, truly believe that cooling will win out the argument.
  12. I agree, I have been keeping an eye on this ever since this discussion started. Something is happeining to the ocean currents, but the question is 'why'?, and what could be the effects of this happening?...or are we seeing this already (super typhoon megi?) This is quite interseting too;-http://neven1.typepad.com/blog/
  13. That's staggering, and a bit scary to be honest.
  14. I completely agree, it is in our best interest to at least 'listen' and 'read' as much data as we feel comfortable with. If we ignore it, or dismiss any of the findings, research both past and present, would only leave ourselves in a position that we might not want to be in. Best to be forewarned and forearmed, then to be regretfull if the unthinkable should happen this winter.
  15. personally, even a complete novice like me, wouldnt ignore some of the findings reported by 'New Scientist' etc, and the links that I have folowed on here. They all make very interesting and informative reading. To completely disregard them all as complete 'BS' , 'Twaddle' , or whatever else you care to label it as, is just as ignorant. The gulf stream 'has' either slowed or 'stopped' according to findings, and that cannot be ignored because it will have an impact on weather patterns in many parts of the world, in fact, in the states, they have recorded a hailstorm with hailstones the biggest they have ever recorded.......coincidence...NOT!.
  16. Apologies, I have M.E and can often get words mixed up or mis-spelt. I was meaning 'La Nina', I was asking how much of an influence it could or would have on our coming winter. As you so kindly put it, its not that clear cut, so that answers my question, in part at least!!. Also, I understand the jet stream is further south(or expected to be over winter) and this is also something to factor in. It's never clear cut is it to us novices!! Thank you for replying.
  17. anyone?....or am I in the wrong room/thread/discussion!!
  18. Is it true that 'el-nina' will influence our weather this winter, meaning that it could be another cold and harsh, if not harsher winter than the last?
  19. LoL!..sorry to hear that, but I'm sure it will reach you soon...it started here about half an hour ago and seems to be getting heavier!
  20. Snowing here in Huddersfield, moderately, but expect heavier burst. Cant believe it will turn milder after, it's been pretty cold all day!....anyone know whats happened to the model thread?
  21. I am one of the newcomers and I find it difficult enough to try and get an even basic understanding of the weather, so i would have to agree...no offence to anyone tho.!
  22. Oh please!...I'm down to quicks on my fingers now, this is agonising!!!
  23. THE EYE IN THE SKY....when you say 'underneath the block', do you mean undercutting?, as I believe this is fairly rare. Thank you for your very imformative postings, it makes it easier to understand for newbies like me.
