    Sat under the cell in Thanet, Been good this year for storms here, The end of may was epic. This one just keeps back building over us and getting heavier then fading then building again, Nice few strikes of lightening but nothing extreme, I'd say the rainfall levels are getting high now though, Few hours it's been going and it built very quickly out of nowhere, directly above! My garden really needs it though! Right under it and very heavy rain so not to good for pics. Some beautiful cloudscapes earlier though, Might get a nice few later if it passes out to sea.

    Hi Guys, Got hit nicely last night! You could hear it coming for a while rumbling in the distance like a distant aircraft, Was constant! Saw it was at 640 strikes a minute when it was in the channel. By the time it got to me it was running at about 200 strikes per minute. Lasted over three hours in all. The core of the cell went past about 2.30am. Pics are from just after midnight. Lightning was some of the best I've ever seen in this country.

    Have you looked into it 4wd? Some info from Nasa on the details of energy released. (Hiroshima was equivalent of 16kilotons of TNT). Here's the details of what was released into the atmos that day from Nasa.     From what I'm reading the energy released was equal to 30 Hiroshima bombs. How much energy is released launching a satellite?

    Morning all, Have asked a question related to the stratosphere here http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/76074-russian-meteorite-and-weather-patterns/ Wondering if the coming cold was caused by the Russian meteor, Similar to a SSW, Would the energy released in this not have warmed differnet layers of the atmosphere. It was a huge energy release measured all around the world on nuclear monitoring stations. Was there heating showed over the area in question on Feb 15th? I can see cause n effect potential but wouldn't know where or how to look for the evidence.

    I'm thinking wether it would effect the strat like a ssw. Just had a look in the strat thread and there seems to be some warming recently. The energy given off with this was massive, energy is heat. I can only see cause and effect happening. Will ask there for some thoughts too.

    I've seen a lot in the last few years too Legritter, Work nights a lot and I'm driving in the early hours often, I had a dream a few years back being told to expect them..haha. On another note I've asked a question as to what effect on the weather it would have. Any ideas? Anyone studied this before?     I was thinking the heat causing a warming in the upper atmos. May have to go digging for those dates. I was on a flight that day and there was some very strange turbulance, fly a lot and that day was very different. Didn't know about the meteor till after.

    Afternoon all, Wondering if some of the more experienced folks could give me there thoughts on an idea i've been thinking about. Considering the cold weather blast we now have forecast, I'm wondering if something triggered this quick change. I've been following with interest the ssw talk and it's very refreshing to see this site being so ahead of the game with this new science. I remember well the Thames streamer a few years ago on the very night we had a 30deg rise in the upper atmos linked to a ssw. I may be mistaken but i have read a lot of comments about a 2 week or so propagation of this working down the into the lower atmos. So my thoughts are, surely this Meteor on Feb 15th in Russia has had an effect on all of the atmosphere. Has anyone been looking at the effect of shockwaves on weather patterns etc?     I would love to be in the French band, Can't believe its snow, living there you would probably think the world has just gone to an instant ice age. That is immense! Will we ever have snow like that here....

    Just heavy rain here, can't see snow unless your further north or you have height, preferably both. Check out the intensity of the band further south going into France, that's some severe water content. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

    Had some nice showers today but the temps are just that bit too high. Snowing lightly now. I feel the next cold spell well be a lot more solid with colder temps. This past week is just the first course...

    Stopped for now, nice few cm more. Looks like the next batch should hit, not quite as heavy but all helps!

    CWT2012, Your ramping may well be half justified for some tonight, 1-2cm already, first time in this cold spell its settling on main roads, keeps up like this overnight, west parts of the region will do very well. Front sat right over us tomorrow day at midday. LOOKING GOOD!

    Same here with the radar for a bit, it's where its falling but its not hitting the ground yet. It's coming..... Really good feeling about this one, looking good for a nights worth of snow here if we're in the sweet spot..

    So a lot more than forecast for many regions today. Had a nice top up here in Camberley. Fairly light all day so kept the main roads clear. Really nice like that, went for a nice drive to enjoy the snowy scenes. Legs been hurting all day from sledging yesterday but its getting better now I've banged it against the door by accident, random but I like those sort of accidents! The Gods are being nice, give thanks and enjoy the snow. I have a feeling it's not even half time yet this winter...

    Have a come to a dating sited? When in rome...Like every morning I woke up to 8inches this morning 11cm of snow though (No over estimation here) Constant snizzle on and off all day, i'd call it heavy snizzle right now. A light sprinkling covering the dirty slush here and there, always welcome!

    Hearing a little dripping but have atleast 4 inches on the ground, after easing off it's getting slowly heavier again, looking at the radar, looks quite active still and the southeast looks in line for more. Those missing snow today i feel will do well in the next few..Hoping to get hit by the Thames Streamer tomorrow and the system on Sunday.     Stop moaning, makes you ill, it's only weather. Lots of snow here and you can clearly see it moving east and slightly pivoting which looks good for the south east. Lots forcast for those that don't have it now in the next few days, Patience. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
