  1. Love the way you describe it! It just seems like in the last few years, we’ve ended up getting stuck in the never ending corridor of Autumn. Even when we tried to reach the room of Winter, we would end up getting stuck in the lift on the way up!
  2. Yeah, that would be another disadvantage for me. Clearing and raking the leaves feels like a chore and adds unneeded stress. And you have to keep on top it it. Maybe not so bad though if listening to some funky music that helps me to get into the groove of leave clearing
  3. Autumn is that time of year where the weather becomes cooler, trees become dazzling displays of vivid colours, nights get longer and mist weaves through the valleys like fluff! But Autumn isn't for everyone and there may be aspects about the season that you love and/or hate. What would you say you like or dislike about Autumn? For me, Positives: - It's refreshing and feels like a fresh start to the academic year - I love the magical transformation as the trees and shrubs change colour from green to various shades of yellow, orange, reds, pinks and purples. Makes the landscape look very pretty - It can be cold enough for snow in Autumn (October 2008, November 2005 and November 2010 being examples of this here) - Cold, sunny, frosty mornings make for some refreshing walks Negatives: - I like Summer better - The shorter days (although the longer nights does make it great for watching films and playing computer games) - Getting up while it's dark for work - mostly towards late Autumn - is quite depressing - Cold, cloudy, drizzly days - Harder to carry out outdoor activies due to the shorter days and my motivation is worse than it is in Spring and Summer
  4. Will go for 10*C, hopefully with a very early snowfall just like what happened on 28th October 2008
  5. Northbound up the A30 in Cornwall (heading all the way back to Birmingham) and it's a similar picture above with dreary ol' drizzle with misty murky Stratus cloud
  6. If only @knocker's squirrel had a big enough mouth, he could go out into the Atlantic and swallow up Sunday's Low :/ (assuming the models verify for the weekend)
  7. Big contrast this morning with some bright skies and patches of Stratus Cumulus. Same time yesterday it was hammering down with rain. 14*C at the moment with a very slack flow from the West-North-West
  8. Lots of sunny spells this morning with the Solihull Cloud Shield holding up well. Temperature around 10*C Should stay mostly dry with the odd shower possible
  9. I do agree for the South it has been a reasonable Summer overall. Sunny and Bright Weather - Overall, I would say this Summer has been good for delivering this. No endless days of overcast conditions or frontal rain (a fair number of times, when it did rain, was mostly overnight) with sunshine and showers being a feature at times, moreso during August. June tending to see the best of the driest, brightest conditions. But even August wasn't actually too bad for brighter spells at times. Rating 7/10 Thunderstorms - Generally a disappointing Summer for thundery weather here. There was an unstable West-North-Westerly which brought 2 little thunderstorms during the day on August 5th, but other than that (unless I missed any while on holiday up North in late August), storms were lacking. Rating 3.5/10 Warmth - Some good warm, and sometimes very warm or hot conditions in June, with some fairly decent warm periods in July. August was a bit more cooler, but albiet the odd day or two, no days that were unbearingly cool. Pretty average overall. Rating 7/10 On the whole, I give this Summer a score of 17.5/30. Would have been a brilliant Summer had there been a little bit more in the way of thunderstorms. Nonetheless, it was pretty good.
  10. Being on holiday in Northumberland, had the pleasure to go past it on the choo choo for the first time yesterday as my mum and I went to Dunfermline for the day: View from the town itself Was pretty cool and cloudy mind you, but albeit the odd shower or two, stayed fairly dry
  11. This is the 12Z NAVGEM's idea for day 5 - probably closest to the UKMO's solution that the Captain posted above with the circular shallow cut-off upper Low to the South-West of the UK (yellow colour) with the Azores High Pressure system ridging over the top And looking further ahead, the Azores squeezes it's ridging through the UK and to the East Summer could be restored for a while towards end of this week - maybe even for Northern UK, although if this does happen, it could be quite transient with a possibility of Lows in the Atlantic trying to break through from the West Hopefully the GFS 18Z (Edit: and the GEFS that knocker spoke about) will be a good boy and walk along the footprints of the UKMO/ECMWF/NAVGEM and GEM.
  12. I do believe I forgot to put a dot between the 14 and the 4
  13. Felt pretty Summery yesterday with the warm sunshine (even though convective cloud did tend to build up at times). Quite pleasant! Today, it seems like Autumn is trying to come back in with cloudy skies. And it's pretty windy, too. Temperature is around 18*C, so not terribly cool.
  14. Autumn better do the disappearing act once December arrives, or this may very well happen!
  15. Even better than the little thunderstorm we had earlier. Seem to be some hail mixed in with the rain too. I so wish thunderstorms happened more often!
  16. Yep! Just saw some further flashes. Finally, at long last, looks like we could be out of the No Storms Club
  17. I suppose considering what's happening in some parts of Europe at the moment, I guess you do have a fair point. Although we've only just started this new month, I just wonder if there's been any other Augusts in the past where there's been some (unusually) hot conditions in parts of Europe like this At least for the UK, having unsettled/changeable August's (like the way this one seems to be shaping up to be) I would say isn't too unusual, but it has been a while since we have had a truly settled and very warm August It would be ironic if it was to turn unsettled towards the 2nd week of September this year - we would then have to wave good bye to national High Pressure day (lol) But I hope not!
  18. Would agree nothing too out of the ordinary, really But I wonder when both national thunderstorm day and national snow day fall on?
  19. I think if it was Winter, the GFS would have been a great run for some cold and possibly wintry conditions with it's stubborn trough to the North-East of the UK drawing down some chilly North-Westerly/Northerly and North-Easterly winds. Even though both the GFS 06Z and the 12Z show the Low Pressure system wanting to stick to the East of us like glue next week, I do personally feel its being too aggressive with the Eastern UK troughing. Not to mention I feel it's slightly over-doing the amplification of the High in the Atlantic (which would kinda help to hold up the troughing to our East/North-East). The likes of the ECMWF and UKMO just seem more realistic with the Atlantic/Azores High Pressure system fairly quickly getting flattened towards mid to late next week with the High getting drawn over Southern UK Could be wrong and it's possible it might be a new trend (even then, the GFS does eventually clear away the Low Pressure to our East), but have seen scenarios in the past (admittedly most particularly during Winter) where the models have over-estimated the stubbornness of any troughing to our East and under-estimating the strength of the Jet Stream powering through blocking and amplified Highs in the Atlantic For now, I'm remaining weary of the GFS's outlook for next week. Not because it's not showing what I want, but because of the above reasons. It would be one of those cases, however, that the West or South-West of the UK would generally see the best of any drier, brighter, conditions while the East would see more in the way of wetter conditions
  20. Ar, if only! It would, for sure, make a dent on our storm shields!
  21. Ar, that would explain why the Midlands Storm Shield has been harder than marble! :/ Despite their being showers around today, the skies don't look as impressive than they did 2 days ago - very soft looking clouds, where as on Tuesday the clouds looked really defined with clearly visible cumulonimbus towers!
  22. Ar man, know the feeling! :/ Last time we had a good night light show was back in July 2015. One of the best thunderstorms for a while
