  1. Didn’t mind April 2021 either. Certainly chilly at times, but the amount of sunshine made it quite enjoyable. Some snow showers earlier in the month as well, which was interesting to see. I think I would chose it over the 2023 April considering the latter was pretty cloudy at times. You could certainly argue one of the pluses to this Spring is the landscape has been looking particularly green and lush this year making it feel particularly delightful when out and about on walks. As much as I would love for the current dry, mostly bright, weather to continue, I would also become concerned that things start becoming too brown and the plants begin to struggle (even if it’s not the height of Summer yet). Not sure I’d be keen on a repeat of last year. Just got a bit too dry and hot during a couple of instances. A spell of heavy rain, or a thunderstorm or two, for this very late Spring/early Summer period would be ideal. At least just some brief top-ups of wet weather to prevent nature getting too parched.
  2. Despite how it started, found it quite an amusing sort of season in the end. What looked like never ending cool and unsettled conditions here at the start had a switch that was suddenly flipped as mid May approached. And the last 2 weeks has generally seen consistent dry and at times, sunny conditions (which still continues). In fact, personally for me, May was the best part of the season. Saved Spring from being a true disaster in terms of warm and bright conditions. April was an okay ish month and, despite the lack of warm or very warm spells, it had some reasonable variety. A few sunny, bright, days with one or two showery/thundery outbreaks. While there has for me been some much better Aprils, there has also been some (much) worse. The odd warmer spell still with one or two extra brighter days, plus the odd squally cold front, could have made it a better month. March was probably one of the worst I have experienced in a while - several days where the sun was asleep. Chilly, cloudy conditions raiding most of the time. I did appreciate the snow that the start of the month brought. That of which I really enjoyed. 3 days of snow (with some rain mixed in). Overall, if not for how May turned out, this could have been a real stinker of a Spring (personally). I think I would class it as a reasonable Spring in the end. Had some of everything, bar perhaps for some a scorching hot spell! What did you think?
  3. Been some showers on and off all day (one or two that were very heavy). Currently some fierce skies to the South-West and North-West of the Barston Lake and Golf Course
  4. As interesting some of the discussions about older Springs and Summers were (I did begin to wonder if this was the Model thread…), let’s make sure future general Spring and Summer chat posts stay in the below relevant threads, please, Spring chat (including Mombasa and ramps): https://community.netweather.tv/topic/98462-spring-2023-moans-ramps-chat/ Summer chat: https://community.netweather.tv/topic/98380-summer-2023-–-early-thoughts-chat/ Cheers guys. I appreciate it’s been quiet in here, so we can let the odd bit of Spring/Summer discussion slide from time to time. Have also been busy, so not been able to get out the special off-topic post eraser (so consider yourselves lucky on this occasion But next time, we’ll be getting that rubber out!). Basically, just make sure your posts are like the recent ones from above, and everything will be just fine.
  5. A bit like the sort of daytime temperatures that wouldn’t have been out of place during December 2015. In the brighter spells, temperatures of 15 to 16*C at this time of year would feel reasonable enough in the strong sun. Especially in the absence of a keen wind. Perhaps for those who feel the cold really easily, then could see how those sort of temperatures would be lousy. I mean May is capable of warmer and, in some cases, very warm spells. Will have to see how things continue to develop. There’s always a chance some of the models could improve again for more widespread settled conditions combined with warmer spells of weather (GEM one of the more optimistic runs building pressure over the UK from next weekend onwards, even though it would pull in a North-Easterly feed at times with Western areas probably mostly seeing the best of the warmest and brightest conditions). This weekend itself is bringing a contrast of weather - going from the cloudy conditions of Solidull yesterday to much brighter conditions of Sunihull this morning. A great transformation.
  6. I pray July will be reasonable, but that would be an adequate Summer. Perhaps with a few more stormy periods, which would have only have been the thing that let Summer 2022 down, aside from the fact it did get a smidge too hot at times.
  7. Get a feeling June will be one of the better months as well. But I admit, some of this is based on hope. With the way Spring has gone, bar some brighter days, a drier June would make a refreshing change.
  8. My guess and hopes would be on June 2023 too (one of my favourite months of the year). Could do with some kind of break from some of the Autumn-esque conditions. Although then again, the last few days, despite the odd shower or two here and there, haven’t been too bad with some sunny spells at times. Wednesday, particularly, was bright and sunny for most of the day.
  9. Having read how other certain occasions were, for the most part, damp, such as past Jubilee’s and Coronations as well as the fact showery rain is expected to sneak in from the South the today, it feels like the weather knows what days to dump its wet weather on… (To be fair, however, it’s looks kinda reasonable outside at the moment - overall cloudy, but some brightness here and there. Suspect it won’t last).
  10. Back in South-East Brum now with the sun out, and feels quite warm. Looks like had missed one or two showers here (one or two fairly recent reports of thunder nearby in Coventry! Well done to you guys). Some of you others, especially to the South-East and up North/North-East, look like you are getting some pretty dazzling shows. ️
  11. Hopefully you guys in the Coventry and Brum area can get something (plus anyone else hoping for a banger or two). But I guess there’ll be further opportunities for us if not, considering we’ve got a good few months of thundery possibilities
  12. A lot of lovely convection around, including some rather tasty skies currently surrounding Welshpool. It’ll probably be typical though if a thundery downpour or something happens back at home in Birmingham/Coventry when out and about (but to be fair, the skies again do like quite interesting here).
  13. Surprised by the temperatures currently, as it feels a little warmer than what it’s showing (14*C here). Apart from that, it’s a great and sunny since earlier this morning. Must be the UFO. Some nice aliens on board shining lots of light over us down from above.
  14. The NOAA 6 to 10 day 500mb anomalies seem to also suggest a chance for higher heights to try poking in towards the UK from the South-West. https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/500mb.php The core of the highest heights are just to the West of Portugal, and the upper flow over the UK is West from the Atlantic, albeit a reasonably slack(ish) flow. So nothing overly settled. But should still bring some periods of more finer weather at times, perhaps Southern areas seeing the best of the brighter mild/warm spells. For those wanting some fine weather, especially those across the South (aside from yesterday and today here, where it’s currently sunny), I do think you could do quite a lot worse.
  15. One thing for sure, is for quite a lot of us, it’s been really hard to find March and April - except for some briefer moments, particularly with the latter and its bright Easter weekend. Those further North-West in general having less problems being able to track down the likes of April. (Not to say that even for those further North-West there hasn’t been some rougher periods). Not the only months that have shown monkeyish behaviours - May has decided to go into hiding this morning, but am sure to find it in the afternoon (assuming the weather brightens up). Then, just as it is found, May will probably make a run for it on Thursday and become difficult to find again for a while. Depends, really, how long the likely unsettled period later this week lasts. While there could be some longer spells of rain at times, some days could just be bright with just a few showers, which wouldn’t be so bad, especially if they were thundery. A week of dry and settled weather at some point would be swell though, as the last time something like that happened must have been back in February sometime. Ratings so far: March - 2.5/10 (some snow and the odd brighter day or 2 stop it from being an ultimate disaster). April - 5.5/10 (was at least brighter than March but could have still done with being less wet).
  16. Even though there’s still another 2 days of the month to go, I would, at best, probably rate this April around 5.5/10 to 6/10. Some positives and negatives of the month below: > Been some brighter days, some with a good amount of sunshine, especially around Easter weekend. > While it has been pretty chilly at times, it’s generally not been unbearably cold that it’s been difficult to go for walks or work in. (Though true that some warmer weather could have been nice, although the next few days look a little warmer). > It’s at least an improvement over the super greyness of March, accept for the odd sunnier day and some snow earlier in March. > Weirdly, even though rainfall seems to have been around or perhaps a little above average, have managed to get away without needing to get the umbrella out much. > Still been a touch too much on the cloudier side at times and the ground is still quite wet in places which makes going for some countryside walks a bit of a pain. A few instances been able to just about get away with it, depending on the field or path taken. > Aside from possibly again this weekend, the lack of getting any day of 17*C or above is a real disappointment. (Edit: it could, ironically make this April stand out in some ways because of that). > Not any days of wintry weather, but to be fair, not all April’s achieve this. In fact, a good number don’t. > Has overall, at least on some days, had a rather Autumnal feel and not helping too much with any SAD sort of feelings. > Lack of any true April showers, except for the odd day or two of some pretty nice convection and heavy bursts of rain. I was tempted to lower my rating to 5/10 due to the fact this sort of month occurred after a dismaying March. But focusing on the month in isolation, it’s been okay. Certainly not the worst April ever. At the same time, could have also been better - just a bit more brighter still and some warmer daytime temperatures. Not necessarily expecting everyday to be sunny with warm temperatures since the average April here not being quite like that. I think, also, some to the North-West, especially the far part of it, will probably have found this to have been a pretty good April (if bright and/or settled weather is one of your preferences).
  17. Ar fair enough. Did the same as Summer 8906 and misread part of your original post Edited version: January 2013 (Good snowy period in the middle. One of the snowiest I’ve witnessed. January 2010 comes very close) February 2021 (had a fairly good Easterly spell near the beginning, albeit mostly bringing just a few snow showers. Think it became rather mild past mid-month. Fairly good mixture of weather). Edit: March 2014 (can’t remember much about it, but I think was one of the drier March’s and less cloudier than the likes of 2013, 2018 and 2020 - much as I loved the snowy period in 2013 and partly, 2018. 2014 still being the only other one would go with in relation to other months from others years I’ve chosen for its possible earlier start to Spring-like conditions). Edit: April 2019 (Some good variation - a bit like 2017 - and there might have been a storm or 2 later into the month, like in 2017, but can’t fully remember. Didn’t seem too bad overall for some bright, warm, Spring, days. Might have got very warm near the end). Edit: May 2016 (A fairly reasonable alternative to the likes of 2020 and 2022. Some sunshine at times but a month with some storms and heavy showers). June 2020 (rather thundery around mid-month - a particularly decent storm on June 16th between 7 - 8pm - but there seemed to be some fairly decent warm and sunnier periods here too). July 2018 (a lot of sunshine and very warm too. Perhaps a smidge hot at times but definitely one of my favourite in terms of sunny and settled weather. A slightly more thundery version of it would make it the absolutely definitive mid-Summer month). August 2022 (one of the best in terms of sunny and warm/hot weather since August 2003. Maybe a bit more in the way of thunder would again, like July 2018, truly make it the very ideal of a late-Summer month). Edit: September 2012 (while there would be others that would have taken its place, I guess it was alright in terms of the fact the weather was varied (some alright levels of sunshine in this part, plus there was a really strong storm which shook up things. It will just about do). Edit: October 2015 (it felt very mild and dry. Liked the idea it helped to kinda keep Summer going in some way, even though perhaps not particularly seasonable. While it wouldn’t count, secretly, would have chosen October 2008 for an additional option due to the heavy rain, sleet and snow on the 28th delivering a light covering here. London had also gotten in on the act). November 2011 (while it was pretty unsettled and wet at the beginning, the last part being impressive for the cold and snow it unleashed, even though, locally, the amount of snow wildly varied. Amazing spell of weather though for late-November, (edit: although I could be thinking of November 2010, but it’ll do anyway lol). Edit: December 2017 (December 2022, while it had a potent cold spell, 2017 brought a pretty big dumping of snow on the 11th and one or 2 other wintry/sleety outbreaks. It passes as a suitable choice because of that). Apologies for posting some of these again. Ones with the Edit at the front reflect changes made to those entries so that each month represents a different year chosen. The above for me still making a pretty ideal year. Sure was hard trying to select alternatives but is part of the fun of it I guess.
  18. An ideal year: January 2013 (Good snowy period in the middle. One of the snowiest I’ve witnessed. January 2010 comes very close) February 2021 (had a fairly good Easterly spell near the beginning, albeit mostly bringing just a few snow showers. Think it became rather mild past mid-month. Fairly good mixture of weather). March 2013 (good snowy periods, although lacking a bit in sunny weather). April 2020 (Generally quite sunny with some very mild/warm spells at times (from what I remember). May 2022 (some quite decent sunny periods as well as the odd heavy downpour or two to spice things up a bit. May 2020 and/or 2018 would be other ones - latter I think good for thunder late into the month). Maybe a bit more in the way of thunder would again, like July 2018, truly make it the very ideal of a late-Summer month. In that case, August 2020 could have also qualified for this; it was very thundery around mid-month, even though it was a little bit too much on the unsettled side for my liking). September 2011 (a good deal of warm weather, still felt like Summer at times). October 2011/2012 blend (if it counts, October 2011 for the first part due to that incredibly warm spell at the beginning here - felt like Summer didn’t want to step down to Autumn. Then, October 2012 for the second part due to a pretty potent Northerly towards the end. Secretly, though, would have chosen October 2008 for the second half due to the heavy rain, sleet and snow on the 28th delivering a 1cm or 2 covering. London had also gotten in on the act). November 2011 (while it was pretty unsettled and wet at the beginning, the last part being impressive for the cold and snow it unleashed, even though, locally, the amount of snow wildly varied. Amazing spell of weather though for late-November). December 2022 (While the mild, unsettled, spell personally let it down a bit towards the end, that cold spell around early to mid-December was nice enough. The bit of snow that occurred lasted for a good while. Lots of sparkly frost and sunny periods, too, accompanying that spell. Quite the Winter wonderland!). There probably would be further other months from the last 12 years that would have made it to the ideal year charts (some months struggle to remember what they were like), but the above is broadly what it would look like.
  19. Although chilly this morning, is nice to see the blue thing up above. Hardly any white stuff currently in the sky. Just personally needs to warm up a bit.
  20. Could so do with some a-May-zing weather next month.
  21. In some ways, while it has for the general part felt pretty chilly during April (and milder/warmer at times towards parts of the North-West), there hasn’t really been much in the way of “ahh, I need to quickly get inside” sort of days with how the daytime temperatures have been. Although, to be fair, most days have felt the need to wear a good number of layers as there’s also not really been any days I would have considered warm. I think having high eagerness as to what the weather should be like during seasons such as Spring doesn’t really help with the mood and feelings of things. Could be easy to expect dry and mild/warm weather to dominate most days in Spring (at least from April onwards), whereas some wet, cool, and sometimes, especially further North, wintry weather to accommodate the average Spring, too. With the rest of this month to go as well as the whole of May to experience, there could still be a chance to see some warmer and more prolonged settled weather to greet the UK. But I think there was always going to be a time that an unsettled, cool, Spring would knock on many of our doors again eventually, just like it has done in the past. No doubt it will come knocking on ours doors again in the future. I have to agree, though, that a grey and wet March hasn’t helped with the matters, and while I feel April has been an alright month, it is a shame (away from the North-West) not to have at least had a day or two by now of temperatures reaching 17*C+. Something that I hope May can come to the rescue with. Be very surprised if it didn’t. Because of the individuality we all have regarding the quality we expect from each and every season, there’s some who find cool, unsettled and, at times, cloudy days appealing during seasons like Spring, and then a number who just despise it. Like one of those cases that what one person finds to be good, will be okay or bad to someone else. For me, it’s not been an especially brilliant Spring currently - March just somewhat too cloudy and damp, although I guess some rain was needed. I did, however, like some of the snow that month brought, (plus the odd decent hail shower later into March), and while it’s not been all that warm and particularly settled, some of the brighter, sunnier, days April has been bringing.
  22. Being really optimistic, but 12*C and only 10mm of precipitation, please.
  23. Feels like Winter and Spring are having a fight outside this morning. Fairly cloudy and chilly, but at the same time, some brighter breaks in the cloud allowing the sun to peep through. There will be a time (hopefully) Spring will win the battle for good before Summer arrives. Winter could just do going for its very very long nap.
  24. Would love to very much see a good warm up now - however, should the possible cold-enough-for-sleet-and-snow Northerly some models unleash towards early next week blizzard its way into reality, I think I’d welcome it. Especially since wintry weather is still feasible, even in late April. At least also, with an unstable, clean, Northerly, there could be some nice, bright, sunny spells between the rain, sleet, graupel and snow showers which, if the winds were fairly light or slack, could feel reasonable out in. Want to guarantee it doesn’t come off? Then get your sled out of the shed!
  25. I guess you do have a point, there. May have to consider getting the Christmas tree out again at some point should it stay like this for a while (hopefully there can be some brightness next week, though Western areas do seem to have the best shot at the brightest conditions). At least some of the brighter weather this month so far has made it quite reasonable at times, if maybe a little bit on the cool side at times. Maybe later April onwards will produce something a good deal warmer.
