@lassie23 I love the white stuff - best part about Winter. And I also don’t mind it in Spring. But it’s just all the chilly and cloudy weather that’s happened this Spring so far (apart from those few hot days in April) has kinda dragged.

      Winter was boring sheet here..

It took long enough for it to go didn't as most of this Spring has felt like an extension of Winter.

  2. I hate it when it's considered wrong for grown men to cry. Just a form of expression

The tendency to hide emotions is a dangerous thing! Men have higher suicide rates for a reason.

@cheeky_monkey No one in particular, I guess it's just my negative view that I assume most people look down on men that cry

      DiagonalRedLine

No laugh, just prefer the freshness of May with most of the flowers and trees in blossom, and being able to go for walks in the evenings when it's still light. Kept December and January as I'd hate to go a whole year without it being cold enough for snow (lol)!

  8. Just a typical bank holiday Monday today - grey and cloudy! That stupid Solihull sunshine Shield!

  9. Hey April, what have you done with Spring? Give it back, man - this cool cloudy weather is so depressing!

Not quite so cool here but still dull and miserable. It's a bank holiday so probably shouldn't expect anything else.

  12. Quite a spectacular finish by Carbide in that new Robot Wars series on BBC2. Brings back memories of the old series with those great robots such as Hypnodisc, Panic Attack etc. Sunday evenings will become a bit more exciting now.

Yeah, would agree that Craig Charles would have made a better fit as Robot War's presenter as his enthusiasm would have really set atmosphere of the show. Dara probably just a bit too laid back. Did feel the arena was a bit bright, too, and could have done with a darker look like the older series. Apart from that (although do kinda agree with the waffle thing, as I suppose it did make the episode drag a little), the show was quite good.

Carbide definitely felt like the new Hypnodisc with that strong slicing weapon. Though be interesting to see what kind of robots appear in future episodes.

I thought it was almost as good as the earlier series, so by most standards a very good reboot, but it was a bit restrained, in particular Dara O'Brien wasn't quite as good as Craig Charles.  Most importantly they kept Jonathan Pearce as commentator.

Hypno-Disc was my favourite from the earlier series as well.  Carbide definitely has potential to be similarly spectacularly destructive, judging by what I saw, but I think it probably won't win outright- I think, again rather like Hypno-Disc, it will end up somewhat less effective if that spinner gets immobilized and the opponent doesn't reverse into the pit.

I think next time I'll watch it on iPlayer afterwards. There was 6 minutes of fighting in the first half an hour, lots to skip through. I did miss the original theme tune and the music during the battles, and the camerawork and editing was poor at times. However, all the elements what made us love Robot Wars were there! Nuts being obliterated was brilliant.

  13. Super Mario Maker version of Level 1 from 1989's Prince of Persia game.

  16. Despite liking snowy weather, would love to see if the mildest December on record could be reached. Just imagine getting a day in December that got as high as 20*C? Wonder whether the mildest ever December day temperature record could get smashed too?

not sure about continuously there's fluctuations this year in UK it hasn't been particularly warm near the average perhaps marginally above. This month I think will be a record breaker regarding 20C I say it is impossible the sun is too weak it is quite easily achievable in March.

      karyo

Most months have been above average in the UK and most importantly globally we are going for another record breaker!

  17. I know cold weather ain't everyone's cup of tea, but would love to be able to order a Greenland off eBay and have it delivered for December... 😜

Doesn't seem to have the same feeling as talking to someone face to face, even if it can be nerve-racking and it's just easy to compare yourself to others who seem more confident. Also hate the feeling when you join in with a conversation on a forum, but no one wants to reply to you and the discussion suddenly stops and you worry everyone hates you (I know it's just paranoia really and the fear of being rejected). But do partly agree with your comment TWS, as they can be incorrect...

  21. Seemed to have developed a few withdrawal symptoms from the top-secret event 2 days ago. Miss the people and the city I saw. It's funny how something that makes you anxious at first turns out to be really enjoyable. Just goes to show that life is precious and is something that shouldn't be wasted. You never know what's around the corner.

  22. Aspergers Syndrome is one of those conditions I feel that can be easily misunderstood. If you have difficulty socialising with other people, for example, it can be (somewhat) hard to tell whether it's due to social anxiety/shyness or something like Aspergers Syndrome.

    1. Reefseeker

      Reefseeker

I think I've mentioned it here before, but as a parent of an aspergers teen, it's one of the most difficult questions - is it aspergers or is it just 'normal'! My only insight, FWIW, is that 'aspie' wiring is different than 'normal' wiring.

    2. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

I was misdiagnosed with Asperger's in 1998/99 but it turns out that I am probably "highly sensitive" and/or "gifted". Despite the positive labels, I can assure you that being "gifted" results in similar social difficulties to those associated with Asperger's.

      William Grimsley

It's a hard syndrome to have but also give a hell of a lot of benefits when doing the things you love. Just wish it would have less anxiety attached to it.

  23. Seems like some people have nothing better to do on Halloween night than to go around vandalising other people's property. Vandals, and those who bully (especially for the sake of it), have no place in this world. Really are some sad people out there.

  24. Beginning to think I want a boyfriend (not definite, mind you).
