  1. Have you just been on Points West regarding ghost hunting at Shepton prison?

Yes ok ta. Sorry about that. They had 3 ladies talking about it and I remembered you posting about working there so thought there was a chance of being you. In another life (pun kind of intended) I would love to do ghost hunting.

Amusingly, re mud, this years 'fallow' year would have been a dust bowl instead.

  3. I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that the Russian government is behind all this Novichok business....Detectives often talk of 'MMO', motive, means and opportunity; the means and the opportunity are obviously there - the Russians created the wretched stuff in the first place...But what could possibly be their motive: they're currently hosting one of the best World Cups that I've ever seen - and why would they want to detract from that?

Why has no-one suggested that there might - just might - be a serial killer out there, who has somehow acquired some of this particular nerve-agent?

IMO, something is not right with all this; the narrative is too convenient...Let's all just blame the Rooskies!

I live locally Pete and the cynic in me is wondering if a link may emerge between the latest victims and the Russian father/daughter.

  5. My job is so much easier with proper cold than marginal rubbish. Forecasting is easier with snow down to sea level!

Forgive my ignorance Nick, who do you forecast for?

  6. Funny how things dry out. Yesterday, little rain but paths and roads remained largely damp all day. Today, wet start and yet paths and roads have dried out now.

I often think likewise, perhaps humidity is the reason. Higher humidity = slow/no drying, lower humidity = quick drying.

  7. Dullest final week of June I've ever recorded.

Possibly wind burn too? Happened on my stag day 6 years ago at an England cricket match. Identical conditions, no thought of wearing protection and 6 of us ended up red.

  14. Interesting how I can forecast the weather better for the coming day better than the Met Office and I've not even got a degree, seems crazy! Super computers more like terrible computers!

Also, with experience which you are thankfully gaining, you will get to know the nuances of your immediate area on various weather type days, more especially in showery set ups which are affected locally by high ground, distance from coast etc.

  15. Is this the year of slugs and woodlice? There were literally hundreds and hundreds of woodlice stuck- motionless on an outside wall last night, and hundreds of slugs littering the garden, never seen anything like it before!

  22. Just went for my first "storm chase". Except, I don't judge the radar and found myself driving 10 minutes behind the heaviest rain. Still, a hell of a lot of surface water and also localised flooding in a few places, it sure was fun!

The IT guy at my wife's school recommended against installing it, so I am not going to. Getting annoyed with it keeping popping up trying to coerce me to do so though.
