Not seen a sky like this for a long time .

iv never seen so many shops selling snow shovels and other winter related products so early as i have this year also the fire service i work for has really learned from the last couple of bad winters and have been making plans and getting ready for the possibility of a severe winter for some time now. it may just be media hype but at a time when services are cutting back and not spending money then in my mind there must be some truth in these stories,and its not just my service all the emergency services are preparing themselves.

very thick freezing fog all the way along the m58 on my way to work max temp 0 lowest temp -4 .

the fog is only just starting to lift here and the temps have not got above -1 ,looks like more fog and low temps for tonight .

Did get a moderate hail shower followed by wet snow at around 13.30 ,it lasted about five mins and has been sunny ever since.

I don't think so. I think next week may still be wintry looking at the charts and reading the mod , i don't think we are going to see spring anytime soon maybe from the middle of next month but only maybe.

Rain seems to be becoming sleety.

Next week looking to be dry cold and frosty ,today we just have rain and more rain.

One last big one would bee nice ,but i don't think this winter is over yet .

When i left work in Liverpool this morning it was very icy with black ice patches on the way to chorley it was snowing at switch island and fog on the M6 and frosty here in chorley. Heading to bambury near oxford tomorrow morning, so need to find out the weather prospects for that area till Monday.

Met office have not given the fire service any warnings yet unles controll are keeping theme to themeselves .May be merseyside is not in the firing line .

The wife says its snowing like mad at home in chorley but not sticking to the road yet.

Am not confident that it will reach my area ,northwest news said it wouldn't so maybe it will.Iv just been out to tescos and nearly fell on the ice that had melted and froze when the sun moved round so the temps are OK for snow but i don't know about the due point. I'm in Liverpool tonight and its always nice to see it snow there and i have seen some great snow falls over the years in February .

Woke up to a light covering on the grass and roofs this morning ,lets see what the day brings.

Yes heavy rain showers here also.I think tomorrow and Wednesday may give us a few surprises ,local radio at mid day also gave a warning that winter had not finished with us yet and there is a possibility off snow in the days to come. Even BBC northwest at 13.00 forecast some snow and not just for high ground and she is a big mild ram-per. What do you think cs?

Am waiting to see what the BBC come up with on Sundays country file,the mod thread is all over the place ATM and am getting fed up of hearing that the mother off all easterlies is in F1. I Hope it does happen to finish this cracking winter off ,but if it docent ill still be happy with what we have had and a few more winter days like today.

Had heavy snow here too,lasted about 15 mins and put a slight covering down.Just looked at the rain today radar and it looks like there is quite a few showers to the east making there way over the pennines .

Feels cold today,we did have a few very light flurries yesterday but nothing much.

You sound like you are writing it of before its even started, common this is the Northwest we don't give up.

Looking good for next week .The MOD are already ramping it up and saying it will be a snow fest for the SE&Sth only,But i think we shall do pretty good from it too. I'm looking forward to seeing all the northwest post next week and yes its already been the best winter for years but i really think this coming cold spell will be something quite special.
