  1. While I wait for the first PB&Jelly bagel of the season settle, I had a quick play with the pics from our test day.  A cold storm played tag with us for an hour or two before things got really going

I have some video of the hail hitting while we sheltered at a gas station, but need new codecs to convert to the right format, new cameras might be cool, but they can be a pita sometimes too...

  2. All set up and ready to do a test chase this afternoon to make sure everything is good to go from tomorrow.

No bonus chases this year, but we have to position for the risk on Saturday, and it just so happens that means heading into a risk area tomorrow evening too.  A running start for T1!

  3. Check the first post in this thread, I think you'll find some friends at Heathrow :-)  And it does look like we'll be heading toward the Oklahoma border on Friday, Hope you guys are ready for a fast start!  It's juicy out here, like being in a sauna, and big storms are firing up from New Mexico to Nebraska at the moment, if we hadn't been travelling for 12 hours and awake for 20 hours it would be tempting, but beer and ribs seem a decent second choice.

  4. I used to buy one each year at Walmart and leave it in the car when I fly home.  But last year I bought one of these -

Lightweight, very small when collapsed, and quick to set up, a half decent ball head too, though I replaced it with a more controllable one that has the spirit bubble in the right place to ensure level shots.

  5. We usually have a single car with the streaming camera, as we all travel in convoy having one on each would only show the same view and burn through bandwidth.

The camera is mounted inside the windscreen and we try to make sure that it's catching what we are seeing, occasionally the sound is on, but as chasing can be quite an adrenaline rush the language might be a bit 'loud' for sensitive ears, so we don't always have audio on.

Of course a streaming camera has limitations, the main one being available bandwidth, we visit some pretty remote places, so the signal can drop out, and the 'Golden Hour' for storms in the USA is around 6pm local time, which means things typically really get going in the late evening UK time.  Which results in some people catching up with the events over breakfast.
