  1. Sadly, my monitoring equipment is definitely to 1dp, and it's in a reasonably good DIY stevenson shield since it's south facing.
  2. Quick question, Max today was 0C (now -0.7C) - do I get an ice day or does it need to be a minus figure?
  3. WOW! Just been out to the garden with the dog. I wasn't really expecting a massive increase on the pictures I took at 10pm last night. There is easily 5-8cm just at the backdoor making it difficult to open. The steps up to the backyard have pretty much vanished. Anywhere we walked last night has vanished. It's still not deep as 2010, when I had to wear recycling bags on my legs because the snow was quite literally up to my knees. I'll try and get photos and measurements in an hour or so.
  4. Out of interest - Traffic Scotland crashed for anyone else? at 6:35am just when plenty of people need it to be working?
  5. Funnily enough, I have just been sat here thinking - there are usually a string of lorries coming through the village between 5am and 6:30am. But I haven't seen any lorries this morning. I wonder if the A697 further south (Wooler and Alnwick) has been pasted and they can't get through?
  6. This is awesome! I didn't even know there were webcams!
  7. This was my webcam image at 4am (the window faces East) This was it at 5am:
  8. It's times like this - that I am so happy I spent the time to code a timelapse webcam. Even yesterday had a lot more snow - enjoy all 2 minutes of what I am going to dub "The battle to keep the road clear" (spoiler alert: they didn't) EDIT: Also for people who like to keep an eye on BordersWeather. The webserver which has been dutifully service the site since 2006, died a few days ago. Until I can figure out how to proceed - here is a temporary replacement that offers the webcam and basic weather data, updating roughly every 2 minutes automatically - Scottish Borders Weather CAM.BORDERSWEATHER.CO.UK Live weather and webcam for Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders
  9. Finally got chance to pop out for photos, should really have done this in daylight.... Oh look it's snowing again
  10. It really was astonishing. People having to walk home for 3 or 4 hours. And yet you could still see the road!
  11. @Dundeeguy The Met Office would have a red warning out AND the transport system would be shut down if there was a dusting expected in London. That year that it snowed in London in November, the transport systems did actually shut down, I remember watching the news astonished that the busses had stopped running - and you could still see the white lines on the road!
  12. OK here is the update from the Borders. Overnight low: -2.9C @ 8:53am Current max: 0.9C @ 11:39am Haven't been out with a ruler, but from popping out with the dog - I would say there is between 8-13cm on the ground. Around tea time yesterday, there was between 1-3cm on the ground. Currently: (fluctuating) -0.6, -0.5C, -0.4C
  13. You'd be saving the council a job.... The gritter would normally have been through at least twice by now.... And then around 5am, all the delivery trucks start coming through.
  14. Hopefully, I'll post that image - and you won't be able to see the traffic island
  15. We reached -0.1C on Monday, that was our maximum. So we definitely achieved an ice day!
  16. It does however have the benefit, that you can time how long it takes for the tracks to be hidden again. It started snowing again about 2 minutes ago. So yeah, pretty heavy.
  17. It might still be good, I was on the edge of the one that just made my road vanish.... The heavier stuff was South of me on the radar
  18. A quick picture before someone drives through it again -
  19. It's quite fascinating now. Watching showers arrive just south of Dunbar, and when they hit land, suddenly they really intensify. Oranges and reds showing on the radar. The same is happening right now just south of Berwick too.
  20. I was going to suggest that Tesco is 24 hours.... but of course you can't buy alcohol in the middle of the night.....
  21. @101_North have you had a look at the predictive radar? The blob due over Edinburgh at 4:05am is massive!
