  1. Last august was good in southeast but 2008 was awful, I think 07 05 and 03 were good. This year has been bad so far!
  2. 24/25c is nice to have in may but not unusual and 23c is the avg temp in essex in mid summer so reaching these temps will be nothing out of the ordinary, im hoping for A big heatwave this summer with 30-35c for 7days +! I don't think the met office agree with anything higher than 22c for next week unfortunaly!
  3. Why would they have one for Scotland and NI, it's never hot enough, The southeast for example has many days over 25c and a few over 30 on a typical summer, Scotland sees one or two days over 25c. It would be a waste of money to introduce a heatwave warning chart for here.
  4. I am going to miss the seasonal forecast and although the winter one and for most the summer one was incorrect I find most of them interesting, The summer forecast was I fact correct last year for the SE just a shame everyone else had a poorer one and 2008 forecast was spot on with the increased chance of cooler cloudier spells. It'll be a shame, I'm going to miss the meto seasonal view!
  5. For varied weather I love living where I live in Essex - Chelmsford. Winters are often mild but we often get 2 snow events per year on avg. Temps avg around 7c max in Jan. July & August avg at 23c and are often dry and sunny. Rainfall is below 600mm per annum and thunderstorms avg at around 5 in a poor year to 15 or more in a good year. Most of the summer rainfall is showery (although 2008 was unusually frontal). We have high temperatures in heatwaves also with 30c+ being reported most years. Nights in summer are also warm, Maybe not so warm as Central London but not far off, Definately 2c warmer than the surrounding countryside. I have chosen here because I hate very cold winters but appreciate a couple of snow events, I like sunshine and dry weather and the area is drier than most in the country and close to the continent so heat and thunder is common in summer months. I suppose if I wanted something slightly warmer then prob Majorca would be my choice, But im quite happy living in my southeast corner of England!
  6. It could end up being similar to 2009 where places like Essex & Kent had the BBQ summer (warmer & drier) whilst the rest of the country was wet and cool. Southwesterlies don't always impact the southeast like the rest of the country, Obviously would prefer everyone to be having a good summer. http://www.meto.gov.uk/climate/uk/2009/august/averages.html check out August 2009 East Anglia 23.5c, 5.5 days of rain & 69% of rainfall - NW England 18.6c, 16.5 days of rain & 124% of rainfall Contrast couldn't be anymore different!
  7. I know we still have almost a full month of Winter left but im interested in peoples thoughts for the upcoming Spring & Summer as im fed up of the winter now! Does the cold winter mean colder seas and thus more settled cool weather in the UK? What is the sunspot activity currently and will this influence the weather later? Will the often easterly jets this winter make for a more southwesterly jet during Spring/Summer? What has occured generally when we have had a cold winter in the summer after? Will the next summer be similar to 2009 where most of the UK was wet and East Anglia & Southeast England dry? Id be interested in everyones thoughts! Cheers
  8. If everyone wants a good summer in Uk head to somewhere more reliable i.e. Essex / Kent. I live in Chelmsford and the average max temp so far in August is almost 25c ! That's not bad atall considering July was nearer 22.5c and we haven't had averages that good since July 2006. If anyone wants to see my log so far let me know its been pretty good with most days sunny and very little rain.
  9. Chelmsford weather today High - 28.9c Low last night was - 19.1c Wind today has been a light E-NE. After a sunny mostly clear day it has turned cloudy and temp has dropped to 27c. Shame! Nick.F - Know what u mean, Essex seems to do ok and doesn't get the airtime on the weather as usual!
  10. Alex from Chelmsford Essex reports at 1212am 6th August 2009 22.1c mostly clear light southerly winds veering southeasterly humidity 77% Yesterdays high was 28.2c and it was bright & humid Yesterdays low was 18.9c I fully expect the temp to hit 27-28c tomorrow if not higher if sun comes out for long period.
  11. Basically if you were living in Chelmsford Essex, The weather in July was poor although we had average temps as you can see below slightly above average, Rainfall however I believe was almost 60mm which is terrible for this part of Essex which is meant to be the driest part of the UK however alot of that came from one storm system midmonth. Month Avg July Max 22.57333333 Min 14.24 Avg 18.40666667 (see my temperature analysis of the month as an attachment - this is for Great Baddow, Chelmsford) Unfortunaely I was away for some of the month so I used Andrewsfield readings which seem to be a bit cooler than what Chelmsford would get - Probably due to Chelmsford being a large town. Some people up north may say this is a good summer for them but a good summer down here would be temps averaging 25-26c and rainfall to be below 20mm which has happened before quite a few times.
