  1. Well it does not surprise me , cant believe the CET has been running above average, I am sure its been at or just below here or it feels like that, Its nearly May now and we haven't seen many days pass 15c yet, just the odd one, most are very low teens and achieving 20c seems like its still a long way off, Warm,,what warm? have the heating on today BTW , and dont get me started about the lack of convective type weather , what the hell went wrong with april showers, that type of weather does not really happen much any more, just grey crud, odd sunny days and occasional moderate rain, whats a heavy downpours like with sunny intervals , remind me again . OK rant over, well its the moaning thread !!
  2. most of the storms occurred in october here during 2013, well 3 in total, although we got one in july pathetic really , all this talk of it going to be a good year is laughable, its just doesn't happen any more, expect disappointment many times if you live in NW england, Just like those seeking cold in winter, the UK especially NW england again is a borefest for any interesting weather , even the atlantic storms in the winter where just mere twig swayers for the most part here
  3. just a cloudy , cool feeling grey overcast day, the opposite of a convective day, its not happening here again, despite lightning symbols stuck on the map over us by the bbc, but they can put them anywhere, means nothing
  4. might be in with a little chance here tommorror, at least there might be some nice towers to look at if nothing else
  5. all this talk in newspapers about UK hotter than spain, balmy britain , blah blah blah etc, over the last few weeks, its annoying me now , where are they talking about? , its not felt remotely warm here yet so far this spring , it been cloudy too here, i dont think the temps have breached 14c yet only on the one day perhaps, it more like 11c /12c at best on most days , I remember walking through central Manchester in the early 2000's in April and it was reading 28c on the digital thermometers on the side of the office towers there, and it felt it too !
  6. and September and October too, infact most of my thunderstorms occurred in October last year
  7. I had slight hope for an evening thunderstorm , but I knew it was too good to be true here , being realistic its going to be just moderate rain here no doubt, then again I had a 3 flashes of night lightning on thursday, thats the years quota used up then
  8. a few sporadic flashes here, and a couple of distant rumbles heard, could the higher sst due to a mild winter give us a good thunder year, here's hoping
  9. don't care what the cet says It hasn't felt like an above average month here, far from it, and there have been many frosts, more than most of the winter,
  10. are there any sfereics in the NW at the moment, because I have just seen a flash in the sky that resembled a power flash to the west, after watching tornado clips on youtube I am familiar with what they look like, must be lightning or a power line arching some powerful gusts now
  11. To be honest, not that bad here in Wigan Greater Manchester, just feels like a gusty wet and windy autumnal night, and its seems to be easing now, reports of a tree down about 3 miles from here in Ashton, thats about it. To say I am just on the edge of a RED area its a bit of a no show, certainly had much worse a few years ago, not a twig twitcher , more a branch swayer this one
  12. non of these storms have really affected here, cant measure the speed but certain it hasn't gusted anything past 40 mph in any of the stronger gusts Most of the time it feels even less than 25 mph Just flag flappers these storms Certainly not concerned about how severe any storms look on the models, not for here, I can write the script
  13. Kept hearing the words thunder in the west in the BBC forecasts yesterday and this morning, did anyone actually get any
  14. Yes plenty to discuss about how Autumn was approaching in the middle of summer, but how dare you discuss spring approaching in the middle of winter and upset winter lovers Lock this thread !
  15. Just bumping this thread to prove the bias of the forum, If the Days Getting Longer thread was locked , WHY was this equivalent one not , Let me Guess
  16. I admire your optimism, still moderate rain, but been getting heavish pulses last 10 minutes but nothing i would call torrential , really cant see any lightning happening anytime soon if any at all, if it does it will overnight when I am sleeping more than likely, but doubt even that
  17. just a minute... was it the north supposed to be the best risk for lightning this evening, what a shocker the south has nicked it
  18. Hehe, its not any more exciting on this side of the pennines to be honest, all these storms have done nothing more than tickle the twigs on the trees and blow empty crisp packets around few inches Possible thunder crossing here this evening (predicted)...nah, the far south is getting that again it was just boring moderate rain
  19. Reports on the news of people being literally blown off their feet on the coast at Blackpool, some getting injured Adrenalin junkie me had to go and sample it, took the 45 mins drive to blackpool parked in a side street then walked to the seafront, it was already buffeting me, the wind sounded like jet planes , As I turned the corner i was met with an almighty gust . I had to cling on to a lampost, Then a squall came in off off the sea, The rain was swirling at high speeds in various directions and I had to crouch at point .. It was fabulous , got my fix
  20. surprising what a few miles can do, then again on much lower ground here, seriously not doing much here, off to bed now, at least the wind isnt making much noise
  21. Not too bad here, just the odd gust that whistles through the branches, not expecting anything severe, If you hate high winds move to wigan
  22. Peter Gibbs on one of the beeb forecasts said this storm will be less intense, the last was just a leaf rustler for many, maybe this one an empty crisp packet mover
  23. The south always get the interesting weather now , no matter where the centre of low goes , The next storm is meant to be a north event, but you can bet the south will get in on the act, leaving parts of northern England wondering what the fuss is about again Sorry but its just the truth
  24. Just a mere twig mover here, we were expecting 50 - 60 mph gusts, I have seen stronger winds on one of those fine but breezy sunny summers days, Not even concerned about the next storm, I can write the script for my location even now
