Might be worth keeping an eye on the cloud development in NW France around the Brest Peninsula and Cherbourg. Could potentially turn into something interesting later today.

I completely agree about the rain part, once it hits it's game over when it comes to taking photos, I'm about to head out, and hopefully get some nice footage, good luck
Keep us all posted if you catch anything on the horizon! Its a late dinner this evening.....

What are your thoughts about what's brewing in the channel? I have my camera gear at the ready if it comes this way.
If any of you fine people find yourself at mudeford Quay in a storm and see a very excited person taking photos next to a red Nissan note, it's probably me lol
And if you're a fellow storm enthusiast, do say hello
I must admit I am currently holding fire to see how the stuff to the south evolves. I would prefer to not be directly underneath it to be honest, as the rain appears to be pretty intense so you cant enjoy the experience without drowning.... With its current course, it will probably be a trip back to Barton on Sea to keep just east of it.

@CaptainHappy Are the first few at Barton on Sea?
I saw quite a few people on the clifftop taking pictures.
Certainly are! Should have probably gone a tad further west to Christchurch

Seems to have calmed down a bit here now. Still raining and can hear thunder but much quieter now. 11mm in the last hour.
Has all but passed for now here too. All eyes south again as it looks like the Channel could burst into life from nothing

An interesting little clump forming just off the Brest peninsula. While it seemingly is moving west to east, could be interesting to keep an eye on if anything forms to its north ahead of the trough out west. Of course something may equally form to its south, but frankly my dears, we don't give a damn....

Still going here every few minutes it seems.
Are you actually on the clifftop? If you are, I bet the lightning is pretty impressive
-
Well I have to say, even though the lightning is pretty infrequent, it it very spectacular

That was loud!
Yup! But still a no show on Blitzortung. There seems to be a lot more going on than is being shown

It seems not all strikes are registering on Blitzortung. Just had a couple here and no show on the map

One or two strikes near Lymington, but so far that's it, Nice thunder though.

A pretty interesting looking and potent storm moving out into the North Sea east of Newcastle at the moment. Shame it is not over land as it would be nice to see some pictures of it. Doesn't seem to be producing much in the way of lightning though.
-
Can confirm thunder. Only one lot but its a start
-
I may do later. I do need sleep though but need to practice lightning photographyHi everyone Does anybody know whether these storms that are forecast are elevated or surface based? I'm thinking of taking a trip out with the camera, but only if the are elevated, Ether way I don't think it will be long now, ps is anybody taking a trip out to the coast,
-
All eyes SW. something popping up from nowhere in the Channel
-
A few large spots of rain falling on the south coast here, coming from that new little line that has popped up from nowhere in the Channel in the last few hours. Quite a mixed looking sky with Ac Cast bubbling up over a large portion of the sky
-
I have to say that despite what you may be seeing on the radar for us down here, very little of it seems to be reaching the ground as we are under what appears as a fairly heavy echo and yet there is nothing.
Still time to go, but im loosing confidence at the moment
-
Just had a shower here right on the coast. The cloud looks to be burning away and moving through on Sat24, but on the coast here we cannot hope for homegrown stuff.
Will be watching the Bay of Biscay and around NW France with a keen eye over the next few hours. Nothing showing yet other than a lot of high level cloud in that area.
-
who will be where then when this baby comes rolling in? which spots do people favour for viewing this awesomeness?
-
Cant see much developing immediately from this little low coming up from the channel / NW France, however it seems possible that we could stand a good chance of importing or growing our own later on through the day? We are now very humid here and once the rainband clears through we could possibly be in a fairly good airstream for them to develop, with low pressure still nearby to potentially assist. Any thoughts?

Its not here yet
