  1. Morning all! Hope you all had a good Easter! Great to see/read all the snow reports throughout the regional threads this morning! Snow/wintry showers risk again tomorrow - could pop up just about anywhere! Tuesday 12:00 15:00 Keep an eye on the UK all time lowest daily maximum temperature record for April - current figure to beat is -1.1C, 01/04/1917, Durham and Macclesfield. That is under threat! Aviemore, Dalwhinnie and Braemar could all get very close tomorrow! (All places have official Met Office stations) Looking further ahead to the weekend. Friday 15:00 UKMO for Saturday: Chilly outlook at the moment! All the best to you all!

  2. Well this winter hasn't been one with a lack of snowy pictures, but I suppose it's obligatory to post them even in April.

  4. Occasional showers of heavy blowing snow coming through. Lovely light powdery snow blowing around everywhere. A few people might have to do without their shopping this morning!

  5. Firstly let's keep this thread ticking over a little longer Mods It looks like the Hunt for warm weather could be put back another month at this rate...the Summer search should begin around July! By that point we will be gearing up for the search for early cold thread! All I can say is the next week looks very chilly,I'm not expecting much warmer conditions till the final 3rd perhaps early May! Just my opinion, but mother nature appears to be not playing ball so far! Enjoy the rest of your Bank Holidays folks.

  6. A dusting of snow here blowing around in a strong wind at -2c. The Arctic front coming south yesterday afternoon, Snow showers coming in off the Firth this morning Spring barley we sowed a week ago has just germinated but not through ground frozen hard could have done with a bit more snow cover but hopefully will be OK. Daffodils have all collapsed Proud winter cereals and oilseed rape will be suffering as well.No buds open on fruit trees so they should be OK. Grass will obviously have stopped growing. Newly born lambs ouside at risk of hypothermia but most nowadays lambed inside and only put out when drinking strongly. Hill sheep lambing more likely to be late April /May

  7. It looks likely that, after umpteen years of Springtime near-misses, 2021 will the year in which the PV decays so cold air ends up over Blighty: Which begs the question: Where have all the coldies gone? And now, I'm starting to fear that we may be stuck in the current rut for far longer than I'd hoped:

  8. Stunning scenes here this morning with about 2cm of powder snow. The falling snow looks so different in the strong sunlight to what it does in the middle of winter. Cats are refusing to go out, just sprawled in the patches of morning sun on the carpet - but not in the unheated porch. The solar panels are going flat out with the remains of some small icicles dropping off now - which I guess means subzero air temp still. Achavanich just now

  9. Enough snow here to be forming small drifts in the wind. I'd say 1 or 2 cm where it is level, soggy underneath but dry and powdery on top. Currently -3C with occasional flurries.

  10. Anyone fancy some more snaw later this week?...the Gfs 12z op does!

  11. Current dew points and passage of the front southwards no doubt causing a few pleasant "surprises" in the regionals. Wrap up warm or get the fire on

  12. Pretty heavy snow blowing through here, lying on car roofs and a bit slushy on the ground

  13. Just looked out window to see snow lying and blowing around at ferocious speed... Did not expect that... Rarely see anything from a northerly

  14. Impressive level of snow cover already, especially considering that it was 11c at lunchtime with a soil temperature well above freezing (8c). Blizzard conditions for quite a few hours now, currently -1.1c. Just hope these little fellows we saw earlier have some good shelter, otherwise that wind chill is going to literally be lethal. Dreading the frost damage on the garden, it took a hammering in February and new shoots were starting to appear on the survivors. Garden centres are going to be busy replacing the winter losses.

  15. Exciting weather. Wind blowing it bare, then sun melting other than drifts, then another squall comes in. Thus one of the better ones so far at lunchtime, though on heavy again. severe windchill 20210405_122816.mp4

  16. Shorts and t-shirt yesterday, snow flurries this morning, what's not to like, something for everyone? OK I appreciate not everyone will be as interested in the current synoptics, but they are what they are. GFS 06z really does suggest a strong Atlantic block.

  17. Whiteout conditions here currently. Probably a better snaw fall than February's ❄❄??

  18. Now thats a surprise. Was expecting it to be cold, but a nice covering seems to have appeared overnight. Such a quick turnaround, was on the BBQ Sarutrday night.

  19. Light dusting of powdery snow. Just enough for a sledge. After fronts not much more happened here overnight, but heavy snow showers since dawn and radar continues to look pretty active

  20. Snowing here, temp dropped to -2c overnight. My daffs look totally defeated with their heads now drooping. Currently -0.5c. A day by the fire with books, tea and dvd's I think. Could do a lot worse.

  21. The gfs has another cold shot post day ten,...strewth!!!

  22. Well that was bizarre. Left the house for walk in a blizzard with the roads all covered and came home an hour later with blue skies and sunshine, snow almost gone and roads bone dry. As if the snow hadn’t happened.

  23. another anomaly vs op battle is emerging, because the noaa charts do not support the gfs re-load of the northerlies a la 1975 style via high pressure to our west after next weekend

  24. Heavy snow here just now - readily settling - unbelievable change in conditions from yesterday mornings walk along the river Dee.

  25. I knew right away by the sound it was making that it wasn’t rain being blown against the windows it was wee bits of ice and snow...sure enough the tops of the cars are getting white... Snow in April...it’s many many years since I’ve seen that, the last time must have been in the 90’s...I was at Knockhill for the bike racing and a whiteout appeared from the north west and wiped out the days racing...I remember it being exceptionally cold that day ( normal Knockhill weather is just cold )

  26. GFS 12z is still going strong with the rather cold theme/pattern. A higher ground snow event possible on the 10th and a NorthEasterly (or pseudo NorthEasterly?) setting up after 174h. Update : And another cold Northwesterly ready to come down at 234h. Arctic just won't give up.

  27. The last but one drill of neeps for the cows, just out for an hour today and then ran back in. Roe deer grabbing the grass before the frost does. Wind chill out there today is incredible. No hope of surviving on a mountain today up here. Currently 32c and very gusty wind with snow showers in the vicinity

  28. Despite all the whining beforehand I think most of us would take this over dull and damp from the west.

  29. Some of these showers are insane... settling instantly where the sun has melted what fell overnight and then as soon as the shower stops and the sun comes out the snaw retreats back to shaded areas.

  30. Wintery morning here, frequent snow showers with blizzard conditions minus 11 wind chill and min -5.

  32. Must have caught a light snow shower at some point as there's evidence on the grass and the shed roof. Apart from that it's the usual northerly fare - frost and clear blue sky! What's not to like

  33. Just a quick update.. As an example of tomorrow's snow chance here's the Gefs probability of precipitation falling as snow for the uk tomorrow.. I wouldn't read too much into it but you can see tomorrow still more likely as was said yesterday for shower activity to develop fairly widely for England and Wales, Wales will see more frequent snow showers later tonight along with possibly east anglia by the morning.. not everyone catching these. A few locations in more central parts of England possibly getting a few snow showers through the afternoon others just one or two and some none at all again. ?️ Gefs.. Icon.. This possibility has already been mentioned with the snow chance increasing for thursday and friday in the north though Saturday is also now looking likely to be quite cold and quite like Mr Frost said.. sleet and snow showers possibly come back into many northern areas although perhaps some of any showers that develop being wintry in the south too on saturday. I still think the Gfs has the pattern over the country wrong during the first half of next week with the colder and also unsettled weather that it is showing for much of the country. The Ecm ensembles average show what I still feel is the more likely scenario though the high mabye slightly further south and west than what it's wednesday and thursday chart is showing.. a gradual rise in temperature atleast at first with this Scotland again probably remaining unsettled with possible snow on high ground. Although a chance The Gfs may still end up being right or at least closer so not to be ignored.

  40. Yes one good thing about a northerly is it's probably the cleanest feeling, looking, smelling, breathing air you can get in your lungs. No pollution this morning that's for sure.

  41. gorgeous sunshine and blue skies... chilly out only 2c but looking at cctv snowed between 7-8am leaving a dusting... all gone

  42. After a dusting of early morning snow it’s turned into a lovely sunny although bitter cold day. just back from a brisk walk and, as is usually the case with northerly’s, the air was crystal clear and the views exceptional.

  43. No sign of snow here, in fact not much sign of the clouds needed to bring some snow, so it's just another bright, sunny morning. Except it's cold. Temperature currently 3.4deg.C up from a minimum of -2.7deg.C at 06:56, humidity is 58%, wind 3 to 6mph northwesterly (very sheltered here from any wind with a westerly component), pressure is 1024.1hPa rising slowly, there's been no precipitation today and 1.0mm of rain in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 1/8 and the dew point is at -4deg.C.

  44. Two things in evidence this morning: -Depth of cold uppers and dewpoints. Currently sat at 0.8 degrees, under blue skies and sunshine. Indicative the air is very cold. -Strength of sunshine. The light snow cover has disappeared where exposed to the sun. The fells also stripped clean.

  45. Yes the 0z ens for herts only show the mean struggling upto 0 by end of its run. No indication yet of any real warmth. Indeed snow making it down to cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire now on the weakening cold front. ..
