  1. Just to be clear. It's not brexit that's the problem per se. It's the breakdown in UK governance, rise of the strong anti-foreigner (therefore anti businesses from other countries) right, the complete lack of an economic plan, second rate cabinet (emergency one due to the resignation of the previous UK government), prospect of a hard brexit... and how this is all pushing the UK to breakup that is the problem. It is all this which has collapsed the £ and caused companies to start making exit plans, not brexit itself. If brexit had been a well planned, popular option with it all laid o

  2. Team Trumps comments were not anti brexit but pro brexit; for Team Trump anyway. They hope to make billions preying on a brexit weakened UK; that's a very positive thing for them.

  4. It's a cool but gorgeous late afternoon in the eastern Borders. The river in the pic is the Blackadder and it is living up to its name. There is a Whiteadder nearby and the rivers got their names in a similar fashion to the White Cart and Black Cart in the west of Scotland. I'll use the "it was taken on my phone" excuse if there's an issue with the picture quality excuses excuses

  6. Case of pots and kettles, I think. He'll have to lump his own performance in the same category. As far as I'm aware he was overseeing the BoE while we were a major trading partner in the EU. Did he put forward policies to effectively boost (or even transform!) our manufacturing output and infrastructure, or was he happy to let the country rely on the financial service industry as its major wealth generator?

  7. Some previous runs have hinted at the following too, we start with a decent build from New Foundland (very roughly) to Greenland and then it all collapses into @mountain shadow's "awful" charts but if you look again towards New Foundland (very roughly) we get a reload of HP to Greenland and another shot at a northerly. So not epic charts but not awful either

  10. I'd lose my job for having no plan and wiping 18% off the value of the company because of that. I don't plan on waiting either. Scotland put forward a brexit plan the other week. Could have saved the UK. May rejected it like a dictator; Parliament was not given the chance to even debate it. Instead shes chosen to push for UK breakup. She might well succeed.

  11. Cobbett, you started this by trying to brush off a blatantly racists comment as non PC.. You should have just stayed quiet because now it seems like you're just backtracking.

  12. Can you give me some examples please? Of me being intolerant that is. As opposed to just disagreeing / putting forward counter arguments. Certainly if what you say is true I can't be accused of being PC, that's for sure! What with my open vitriol towards minorities (Trump supporters in this case). Note your post is coming across as intolerant as it makes unfounded personal insults / accusations. But then you are not a liberal I understand?

  13. Incidentally, I love being called a liberal. It's really rather odd when it's used an insult. I certainly don't want to be a bigot (which covers racist, xenophobic..); the opposite of liberal.

  15. I can't stand it when people sympathise with something that is outright racist by saying stuff about PC. PC is something like calling a black person 'coloured' or making a tongue in cheek joke about a sensitive topic. PC is doing things that are potentially a bit controversial but overall not meaning any harm by it. What he said was outright racist. There's no PC about it. It's racist little scumbags who hide behind and misuse the term PC you need to watch out for.

  17. Christ I forgot about the MTthing - it's all so technical in a sometimes very childish way there, I just wanted some levity, but they kept squabbling about the data for hoursssss.... Drugs include small amounts of DHC and Ibuprofen... others will remain secret!

  18. No but then we're used to that sort of stuff.... My ears prick up at mention of haar on the radio, but that's not what you mean is it? Been a cracking day here, watched it drift past in a drug and fever induced haze from my bed... I shall have nap No.3 soon...

  19. The definition shows exactly why you are not - you have no respect for other views unless they are from perceived minorities. Just look at the vitriol you've output over brexit, trump etc Ah maybe because you think all trump and brexit supporters are racist bigots.....

  20. Looking much more promising from the first week in January. The anomaly charts are fairly consistent in showing a flow from north of west. At times quite troughy too so much of the Alps should get a decent covering. Next week suggests the first major snowfall for some time-of course I may be wrong, hope not though.

  22. Im other words "I'm all right Jack, and I haven't noticed any racism (possibly thanks to living in a part of the country with a very low percentage of ethnic minority residents?) so I'm going to act as though it doesn't exist." Hardly a persuasive argument.

  23. I think that is why the Tories would rather break up the UK than allow differential Brexit. Scotland both in the UK and EU single market would be very attractive to companies wishing to remain in the single market with least upheaval.

  28. Yes, I was surprised at him saying he did a really poor job at the BOE, making the UK perform poorly economically. He was after all the man in charge of monetary policy which led to the great financial crisis. Not the best record really. Or is he saying the UK is doing well after having him in charge and being in the EU? King has no real credibility on the matter in the end. I mean 'Big brexit supporter thinks brexit will be good' is hardly news people should take into account. Carney is an unbiased source by comparison. He's Canadian so doesn't get a vote / has no emotional is

  29. Twenty years means a lot of southbound travel with increased unemployment and lower economic activity by which time the EU could have got over the current problems and be functioning well leaving ourselves, or those of us still left, kicking ourselves. By that time the majority of us who voted in the referendum would have been remainers - what kind of justice is that? I call it spoiling the ship for an 'apeth of tar.

  30. Wow, so now the expected payback comes after 20 years, not 5 previously touted... Exactly how do you believe these rewards will manifest themselves? The world will very likely be very different in 20 years, with other nations upsetting the economic position enjoyed by the current top 10. So exactly how does weakening our position now and for the next 20 years running, by taking us out our biggest on-the-doorstep trading club in order to hopefully reap some reward, make sense? My interpretation is that this position is delusional. Here is a question worth considering: If the Euro

  33. Well tonight's GFS has caused some head-scratching. Perhaps the mild weather isn't killing off the nits. Seems likely that we'll at least get a brief chilly spell next weekend (I remember weekend being a feature last winter - or perhaps the one before), then it's all very uncertain. To be honest, confidence in forecasts more than a week out is never high... We just got a few more sleety flurries today so it was good to see people's snowy photos on here again (and Norrance's waves ) especially while fighting off this crap virus again.

  35. @Singularity; Interesting to note, in the light of this shift of the Circumpolar Vortex towards northern Siberia that some of the model runs for 10 days to a fortnight out suggest deep depressions penetrating over Scandinavia and northern Russia; with high-pressure over Greenland (again suggested in the surface pressure predictions) this is suggesting that northerlies from well within the Arctic Circle will be sweeping south across the United Kingdom during this period. This Canadian Warming event high in the atmosphere in late November was possibly caused, in part, by underlying surface

  37. I believe I have been posting in this area over many incarnations of the forum over many years. I've earned time in the 'sin bin' and have tried adjust my posting to keep inside the rules now in operation. Over my time I have always tried to highlight not only the changes we have witnessed but also those both predicted by Science and from myself and my 'understanding' of that Science. Over that time there have been plenty of folk who saw things differently and went to great lengths to prove that either the science 'could' be wrong or that the methodology used did not cut muster.

  38. If you want to see disgusting and idiotic just look at how the "tolerant liberals" are treating Jackie Evancho. The culture of boycotting, bullying and threatening people into submission for having the audacity to have a different political opinion will hopefully come to an end as these idiots lose power all over the world.

  39. There is little to no "sceptic" science on the subject, because there is no genuine scientific basis to it. If what these self proclaimed "sceptics" wrote had any merit, they'd get their stuff published. As it is, the best they can do is blog, tweet and get media articles where they hope the gullible will eat it up without question. The real issue here is most "sceptics" won't do actual scientific research, they can only muster misleading articles on subjects with which they have no expertise. You don't seem to know much about how the scientific process works. Packing peer review panels with

  40. Erm, Lizzie, the reason May won't give you details of her brexit plan is because she doesn't have a plan. Contrary to the delusional May, I imagine the Queen understands all too well that Britian didn't vote for Brexit; only England and Wales did. After all, she's e.g. Queen of Scots too. As a result, the UK is under threat of breakup, with May leading it there, fingers in ears, singing 'la la la red, white and blue brexit means brexit!'. If I was Lizzie, I'd want May out of office quickly before she destroys the UK both economically and constitutionally.

It was, however, a fine calm sunny day, although the temp was only 1C around 09.30 and car needed de-icing. .The snow is now confined to the higher, east/north facing hill- tops, and (as far as I'm concerned, at the moment ) it can stay there .

  46. Firstly the absence of an alternative leader(s) is an assumption that needs to be supported by reasoned argument. Secondly intervention didn't necessarily mean getting rid of Assad, at least straight away, (although that is obviously the better option if this country is ever going to achieves a long term solution) but cutting off at the pass the genocide that very rapidly took place. So yes I think things would have been much better with stronger leadership from the Allies as not only could this humanitarian tragedy have been avoided, or at least greatly alleviated, but also I just cannot imag

Surely climate change and a large and increasing population are linked to some degree. Imo anyone with say around 3 children should be sterilised, may sound a bit extreme but the global population is becoming extreme too.
