  1. Nice heavy shower blasting through there Wait for old sol to disappear and TMax to dissipate and we could have an interesting evening ahead Shower heavy enough to create wonder...

  6. Heaviest snow shower in 2 years here. By that I mean you could tell it was actually properly snowing for ten minutes. There's even some white stuff left lying on grassy surfaces. Very strange. ;-)

  8. Typical. Decent snowfall at home just as I head north in search of decent snowfall Up in Caithness and Sutherland. As is often the case with southwest winds, this little corner of the north stays stubbornly dry...but we did get some last night and this afternoon to make the hills look the part. Up on Morven, the highest point in Caithness this afternoon: And the Ben Griams, northwest of Kinbrace just as light was fading this afternoon: Enjoy the snow down south!

  11. Looks like the greatest risk for snow making it through to the east will be this afternoon and overnight: The afternoon showers may still lie, although they would be liable to melt again, but by this evening the freezing level is widely sub 300m, so things could get pretty interesting: Timings obviously differ slightly but the EURO4 shows a similar story: v Could be an interesting train ride to Armadale this evening!

  12. Before you two start hyperventilating by all means let's get some facts. And by the way in case there is any misconceptions here about motives I've almost certainly posted more about the cold in the US than either of you two. Facts. Dec-Jan in the US was the 6th warmist on record. When the Feb details come in this will probably be a bit lower. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/temp-and-precip/climatological-rankings/index.php?periods[]=2&parameter=tavg&state=110&div=0&month=1&year=2015#ranks-form In the meantime Freaky February helps smash records for heat — and cold http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2015/03/01/weather-february-breaks-heat-cold-records/24223177/ Bottom line is no matter how much you two compadres wish to concentrate on the cold aspect ( I've absolutely no idea why) the winter in the US has been extreme for heat and cold but overall it doesn't rank as being that cold. Fact.

  13. What an amazing spell of snow Showers in this kind of set-up always seem to die before they reach Alloa, but this time they've actually been intensifying right over us! Must be due to the more southerly component of the wind. I'd estimate about 2 inches lying here - most of this fell in the space of 20 minutes! Surprised there's only a yellow warning for this. BBC Weather still tweeting about "locally 1-3 cm" to lower levels but we've already passed 5 cm Will be interesting to see if there's any more snow overnight.

  28. So Jeff Farrell- front page for a Monday morning, 2nd day of March, easter weekend being over a month away Temperatures are set to soar to 21C, making it hotter than Spain over the holiday. 21C wow 70F, people will be overcome Millions of families are expected to head for coastal hotspots such as Brighton. - millions But the good weather is not arriving just yet. really is that because it is the start of March Heavy snow and ice is forecast this week, kicking off a miserable March with a sub-zero chill on the way from Canada. wait lets put in a Met Office quote , like N.Rao “This week will be cold with sunny spells and some wintry showers†Met Office forecaster Chris Page The gloomy outlook from the Met Office also predicted torrential rain, cold evenings and wintry showers in the north. - cold evenings, be prepared!!! It comes as four inches of snow was set to fall last night in Scotland and two inches in north-west England and Wales on the first official day of Spring. -did you miss the word hills, Chris didn't? Met Office forecaster Chris Page said: “This week will be cold with sunny spells and some wintry showers. “These showers will see snow fall on the hills in the north. “Temperatures will certainly feel cooler because of the blustery winds.†so no mention of Easter heatwave then Motorists, walkers and cyclists have been warned of icy patches.

  34. Another reminder from me of what winter is capable of around here when the perfect conditions align: January 1982, Nelson. It has to be at least 60-70cm deep in the second-to-last pic, judging by its depth compared to the windows. This picture from nearby Treharris seems to show even greater depth, but I'm not sure if this is 1963 or 82. Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable about cars knows the answer. Now, let's look forward to a potentially warm, sunny Spring and whatever Summer brings, it'll nice to see the lush, verdant foliage again, and let's hope next winter is drastically different to the one currently in its death throes.

  45. Sounds like weather heaven to me, especially the no wind & no rain bit, I'm not bothered about whether it's a cloudy high or if day & night time temps are similar, I would take that weather setup over wet and windy conditions any day of the week.

  49. Had a nice unexpected fall of snow (fairly wet snow it must be said) this morning.Snowed from late morning till early afternoon and left a covering on all surfaces for a while then thawed pretty quickly, just a few very small patches on the grass now remaining. It was the most snow i had seen falling all winter and it didnt hang around for long but it was a nice surprise.
