  1. Odd that you post on the model thread about it being pointless dissecting the models. Also, despite my general awesomeness even I don't claim to be able to change the pattern. I'm not so sure your prognosis will come to pass, but we will find out in due course.

  4. Don't worry Stormyking, you'll get used to our Winchester correspondent in the end, she's very hormonal at the moment. Coming from this 43 year old I'd say you should both make the most of it. Below is a picture of me and my mate when I went out last weekend, I'm the one on the right hand side of said picture, no really I am. A bit rough for a 43 year old I guess.

  5. Went on a walk late morning today before the snow melt, visited the C.S Lewis Nature Reserve (Narnia was based on!) & Shotover Country Park a good 5-6cm laying there at the top. Took some snaps.

  6. spectacular skies tonight void, amazing if your into star gazing, look out for jupiter just above the moon. awesome. venus and mars are within an 8 degree orb conjunction in pisces, that's why they are so close together. the moon and jupiter are in leo, the full moon made a conjunction to jupiter earlier today and is now heading into the constellation of virgo. amazing to have the chance to view these conjunctions, especially in our wee cloudy country.

  7. Beautiful clear skies all day. I'd hoped to get a video of an iridium flare passing overhead, but that didn't work out, so a photo of Venus (and a very faint Mars just above) will have to do instead. Hi-res version is here (looks much better) http://i.imgur.com/GO7xaBy.jpg

  9. Doubt I'll see this again this winter. Only a couple of weeks ago. Happy seeing one really good snowfall. It snowed for 24 hours with around a foot of snow then disappeared as quick as it came. Lol

  13. ... indeed, what people seem to overlook is that march 2013 was a very rare event, so whilst march can be cold and snowy...the odds are stacked right against it. in reply to these... depends what you want from winter though doesnt it?... i suspect many looking for cold arent really content with a light/moderate frost by night, sunny 4-5c by day and snowless. it DOES look like winter MIGHT be over in terms of a deep cold snowy spell, that would be a fairly safe bet in the next 24 days. so if people are happy with march blizzards preferances, fair play! but i think hes right and people want snow not frost.

  14. Very surprised by the amount of snow this morning, wasn't expecting much to fall but it looks like approx. 2 - 3 inches in Westhill last night! Drive in to work took an hour which was 3 times longer than usual because people were getting stuck going up hills but my fiesta with winter tires didn't seem to have any trouble at all.

  16. Anomalous propagation (aka anoprop) includes different forms of electromagnetic wave propagation that are not encountered in a standard atmosphere due to a non standrad distribution of temperature and humidity with height in the atmosphere Or basically as it refers to a false radar echo ....super refraction in a temp inversion blah blah I'm boring myself lol

  17. Well folks how much negativity around tonight... come on it's still early Feb "BIG plenty time" for things to change yet! Looking at the GEFS diagrams charts there's plenty of uncertainty after the 11th of Feb.... looks like they are not dealing to well with the HP in where it wants to go. The pick for me is Member no18 :cold: http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gefs_cartes.php Sorry wouldn't normally do the Mod thing, but my God you all need cheering up... just remember... IT'S ONLY THE 4th OF FEBRUARY !!! This is my Glass what's Yours

  18. Looks like rain for eastern areas, definitely if it reaches IMBY. High of 5.9 today.....when was the cold spell supposed to start? Hehe

  19. It's actually very odd that misquoting me is turning into an art form. What I said was this: I said each run and i made no prognosis just a straightforward interpretation of what the GFS is saying. And I'm quite sure it won't come to pass.

  25. me neither, it cost me too much lost income.. but all this hopecasting talk of 'another march 2013' really is clutching at straws imho... because that march was highly unusual. not that it was cold, but the longevity of it.

  26. It was also snowless for these parts and the SW, so all it did was give me higher energy bills than the norm for March. Would not like another March 13.

  29. Come on guys, All this negativity.. This weather type can be classified as rather cold to cold category for temperatures. I am beginning to wonder if the cold of Dec 2010 and also March 3013, have changed peoples perceprions of the UK weather. Guys, those events were 1 in 100 years and 1 in fifty year events. They do not happen every year or even every other year by definition. The CET temperature over the last week has been about 1.0C. (average about 4-5 max and -1 to -3C minimum). This would clasify as quite a reasonable cold spell even in the 60 and 70's. Let us remember that we live in the British Isles not Iceland or Scandinavia. This weather has been respectable for most who do not expect a raging blizzard every other day. Fo information I have now recorded 8 days with snow falling since Jan 10th. Current temperature 6.4C (IN THE SUN) and now an actual temperature of 4.7C, probably the max for the day. Live for the present... the next snowfall could be this afternoon, or evening or tomorrow. 30. of course winters not over, theres 24 more days, but that localised couple of days of bitter wind and some possible snow (although daytime temps are above zero) isnt really what the majority are looking for is it. cold/chilly/overnight frosts.. 'normal' winter weather is what we have, and in those terms, wintry weather isnt over by any stretch of the imagination. but if youre looking for a period of real cold and snow, ice days, that lasts longer then a few hours, and engulfs most if not all the country...ie a proper deep cold spell, then thats highly unlikely to happen now, so THAT description of 'winter' has little chance of happening.

  31. So apparently winter is over according to some yet down here in the south it's already cold and with a easterly wind picking up over the next few days it'll feel bitter out there with sleet and snow showers forecast to reach quite a way to the west according the forecasts I've seen today. So much for winter being over eh!!

  34. I'm not sure what it is with S Wales, must be the wettest part of Britain 99% of the year round yet when it comes to the freezing weather we're good for frost on the cars in the morning but the precipitation seems to go all shy on us. First morning for a while that I didn't have to scrape the frost off the car this morning though despite the tempeature being sub zero last night in the early hours

  36. March 2012 was all mild/warm, it's the 4th warmest on record. Here in Leeds it was also spectacularly sunny (possibly the sunniest on record) and dry although there were many places that got a lot of cloud.

  38. BBC's take on next week in the week ahead forecast and they are going for a north south split, milder but some rain in the far north, frosty nights and some fog but pleasant in the sunshine further south You know the sunshine is gaining strength and spring is coming when they start suggesting 'pleasant days' again

  40. I must admit all this beast from the East talk is really over hyped the media even our local rag is getting in on the act, yes its cold but tempertures remaining between 3 & 6 degrees is surely just an average Feb not a beast from the east
