Why is mild "horrible"?

And why do we "need" low 850s?

Doesn't anyone in here have a responsibilty to pay the heating bill?

Perhaps you leave that to your parents... :whistling:

Believe it or not we are in winter!! its not some tropical island in the Maldives, we get it very lightly compared to Eastern Europe - some like mild in the minority, some like cold. Personal preference but a large majority on this forum crave snow if that means more £££ down the drain so be it. We have mild climes cold is savoury.

Much brighter start to the day here.

Chances of something colder developing by mid-month based on current modelling, though nothing is set in stone.

Absolutely nothing wrong with mild weather if that's what interests you but it is winter and if you come onto a weather forum in winter the larger percentage will be looking for something cold and snowy. The opposite is true in summer so I tend not to come on here !!! Simple. Anyway I'm going to get my mum to turn up the heating as I'm getting a bit chilly.

Grey, 11C. Glad I spent most of the day indoors at the Wetherspoons in Leigh on Sea and then watched a film at the Southend Odeon.

I'm surprised I haven't bumped into you yet! I was down the Elms Weds evening, and off to Southend Rileys tonight :p

Anyone got any thought on this stormy weather next week? I'm wondering if it will affect us so much just a northerly event ?

FAX charts

Saturday

PPVE89.gif?31415

Light and variable winds, favouring east in the north of the region.

Heavy rain spreading east and lasting all day over Kent, brightening up slowly elsewhere.

Temperatures

nmmuk-0-26-0.png?02-18

4-6C so feeling pretty awful in fairness, little chance of snow (reserved for the hills over Wales and the north Midlands)

Overnight

nmmuk-0-42-0.png?02-18

Widespread air frost (down to -5C in places). Also the risk of freezing fog patches.

Sunday

PPVI89.gif?31415

Light north westerly winds

Fog may struggle to clear in places, otherwise a fine and sunny days.

Temperatures

nmmuk-0-50-0.png?02-18

2-5C, maybe struggling to get above freezing in areas where the fog doesn't clear.

Overnight

nmmuk-0-57-0.png?02-18

Turning very cold for a time with an air frost developing, before a front pushes east and things turns milder.

Monday

PPVK89.gif?31415

Gentle south westerly winds

A mainly cloudy but dry day. Turning milder.

Temperatures - 7-10C

From around the 22nd of January, the MJO will be moving into phase 7. This in theory will allow high pressure to build out in the Atlantic and push north, forming a block. The block will pull down bitterly cold northerly winds and plunge us into winter proper! :cold: Low pressure will be forming to our east increasing the risk of snowfall! For the time being the MJO will be moving from phase 5 to 6, which has high pressure to the south and low pressure to the north! Not a good set up for cold, but instead good for mild stormy conditions! You heard it here first, unless you read the website I nicked all this information from! :smiliz19: 4.7c here and dry!

Two things to note here. We are flying out to Cuba on 29-Jan, going on holiday without a child for the first time for nearly 20 years, so tornadoes, blizzards and pestilence will be rained down on Gatwick on that day. We will also inevitably miss all the snow over the following fortnight. Though I'll be sorry to miss the fun, I'll raise a mojito or 72 to the forum  8)

I thought it was the middle of the night when I woke up it's that dark here. An extremely damp and dull day, temp now at 5 degrees still quite nippy. 7.3mm of rain overnight with more expected.

Rain seemed to ease off for a while, then came back even heavier.

So dark here you would be forgiven for thinking it was dusk.

2.3C and heavy rain at 8mm/hr......truly a day for staying  indoors by the fire!
