Unusual Sky

mike57

Last night around 9pm well after sunset the sky had these milky looking clouds that gradually faded. To those of you into photography it was nearly dark, exposure was 0.5s at F2 ISO3200, too dark for the autofocus to work. What caused this unusual colouring? 5 mins earlier they were a bit brighter, but they were fading as I fiddled around trying to get a half decent image. So any thoughts?

The description fits, and it was just ahead of the cold front so was the precursor to the current cold spell. They not something I have seen before. Thanks for the info.
