Fryup Dale Head
The steep slope here is a confusing jumble of drumlin-like hillocks, ponds and large boulders. No doubt some stone quarrying was done but much of the jumble is natural slippage. Basically the crag is similar to a sea cliff with material gradually slumping and being eroded below, until a further section becomes unstable and falls.
In the last ice age the valley below was a substantial lake dammed by ice over what's now the North Sea.
