About This Group

A place for those in the Southwest and Central Southern England to chat about the weather and their daily lives.
  1. What's new in this group
  2. Updated numbers: Short on news day, the local rag doesn't interpret, it just posts!, totally agree with you.
  3. When does a convective discussion become a ‘tornado warning’? Answer - when an ill-informed journalist on a local rag completely misinterprets the information. Tornado warning issued for Dorset WWW.BOURNEMOUTHECHO.CO.UK A TORNADO warning has been issued for Dorset today.
  4. Wasn't expecting this wind today. Must be 60mph+ even inland. On a par with Henk and Isha back in January I'd say.
  5. https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/24219245.tornado-warning-issued-dorset-today/ Really? Issued for up to 8pm tonight
  6. Absolute shocker of a day here. It’s hardly stopped raining since the start of the day. 2 batches of thundery activity in the past 24 hours. I do wonder with the amount of rain that’s fallen if a yellow warning could have been issued. Causing issues on the railways and doubtless on the roads too. Disruption on GWR trains in the west due to flooding https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-68682702
  7. Wind gust at Hurst Castle 75.1mph, still gusting around here. 45mph here, and bearing in mind our location, that's a high!
  8. Just out walking the dog, it’s pretty wild out here. Not sure we’ll be out long. The low level cloud are screaming along.
  9. A bit of the squall line is just coming through now. Must be a tree down in the lane, as a couple of cars have doubled back and are going out the other way.
  10. Andy Bown A couple of bands of intense rainfall across Dorset, I'm patiently waiting for ours! All the thunderous activity is WAY to our north.
  11. It looks like yet another batch is forming near Bridport! What is it with that area causing the storms to develop?
  12. Still breezy, current figures show: Parkstone yacht club high is 59mph. Hurst Castle picked up a 75.1mph gust. Weymouth picked up a 77mph gust.
  13. Ok fork lightning then a very loud crack made me jump as I was looking out of window . Set our car alarm off .
  14. The most active storm so far passing just over the edge of Salisbury Plain. Frequent lightning, thunder and swirling wind. Lol as I pressed to complete the post there was a CG and shotgun thunder!
  15. Nice 'sferics overhead just now. Not hear a decent crack of thunder in a while. Been staring out the windows all day given there is a rare tornado threat for our area, but not seen anything twisty and turny so far.
  16. Jeez it looks like another thundery batch is forming around Bridport and pulsing NE! This would have been awesome at night, however then you don’t see the cloud formations!
