Baby Stuff...

well I had my second Parent Craft class on monday, which was interesting. I also got to have a nose around the birth centre which was absolutely marvellous. It has five ensuite rooms, all decked out in peach and cream decor, with curtains, plants, TVs, etc....Although the place is obviously functional with lino floors, etc, it really felt very calm and relaxing and exactly the kind of non-medicalised place I want to give birth in. Mr Roo can stay in the room with me after the birth (they have spare beds) which will be wonderful. You can also wander about the halls, or sit in the garden if you want too! They have two water pools and all kinds of stuff like blow up balls, bean bags and lavender cushions...It really is a great place.Had a long chat with the midwife in charge there, and they average around 15-20 births a week there at peak times (25th sept apparently is the busiest...think Christmas day plus 9 months....), but can have no-one for a week or two at a time. The amazing thing is that over the last year they have only had to transfer two women to hospital and neither of them was an emergency, just slight complications. I fit all the criteria for booking there at the moment, so fingers crossed I'll be able to stay that way

Sounds really nice, do they do B & B ;)

Only joking. Hopefully everything will be hunky dory for you to go there when MiniRoo makes his/her appearance :D

Things have got much better for mums in recent years, a move away from the clinical side to the more homely touch.

Good luck - can't be too long now

It did make me think actually about how much some people will be paying privately for exactly facilities such as these....and they're free!!!

It is nice that things are getting nicer for women, I'm just hoping I'll be able to take advantage of it :)
