21st Birthday- Disappointing

This hasn't been the greatest of birthdays so far, although hopefully that might change with tonight's Extravs. Then again, 21 was never my favourite number anyway, even if it is the most hyped of birthdays. My exam results, due out tomorrow, came out today- and I got a 2-2 degree, so I will find it incredibly hard to get funding for the MSc in Leeds that I was applying for (a 2-1 was paramount). I may have to fall back upon the backup option of getting a job after all, but I hope it won't have to be a repetitive paperwork/admin/"general practical stuff" type job sitting on my own in an office 9 till 5 and completely cut off from the weather! Ideally, it should be something at least vaguely connected to meteorology...With hindsight I should have done a degree in Environmental Science rather than Environmental Maths (my Environmental Science marks were consistently in the 60s and 70s, while my maths marks were in the 40s). However, before I embarked on the degree I didn't know that advanced degree level mathematics was so abstract! The maths itself isn't a problem (an A at A-level confirms this), it's the layers of abstraction that I couldn't get my head around. On the plus side, my Canon camera somehow recovered from its E18 error on Monday night (it seems that sand did indeed get into the mechanism, but nontheless, all of a sudden it started working and the lens came out, bringing a ring of sand with it). "Touch wood" as they say, it has operated flawlessly for a day and a half now...

Sorry to hear you did not get the exam result you were hoping for but a 2-2 is still ok as a result isn't it?

I'm sure with your determination you will get what you want in the end :D

Hopefully you had a good night last night and will only be able to read this tonight :p

The night continued the 'disappointing' theme until around midnight, because there was nobody friendly around. This dramatically changed at midnight when I came across an exceptionally friendly crowd out of nowhere, had a great time, and then went to bed at 4.45am!

There were some spectacular early-morning cloud effects that I photographed with my digital camera that I thought was bust... so far, still working!

I had very little alcohol, and so don't have to suffer any hangovers today- just as well, because the Lonsdale College Extrav (scheduled for tonight) is usually the best one of all in my experience. Excess alcohol doesn't agree with me- I prefer to drink in moderation!

Also, Leeds have just sent an email suggesting they are still interested in me, so the chance hasn't gone yet.

Excellent news about Leeds - fingers crossed :D

Sorry about the glaringly late reply- I had two weeks in France!

An Extrav is a party held at one of the University bars on campus, which you can come to and go from at any time, but which typically starts at 7pm and finishes at 3am.

As for the degree, fingers crossed I seem to have been accepted by Leeds and NERC despite only getting a 2.2, although sorting out accommodation is currently proving to be a bit of a pain.
