Roo's Ramblings.....

She's Here!

just to let you know that Ellen Rose decided that she wasn't waiting till November and arrived yesterday at 2am after a 2 1/2 hour labour(waters broke 24 before...). She was born in a pool at the birth centre, although cos she's a scrap, we had to then go to hospital where she got the all clear. She's a tiny little scrap at 5lb 6oz, but is really healthy and placid (I get a feeling that won't last!). All 3 of us are doing grand, although we're all shattered! Will talk to you all very soon, once w

I Do....

Well today has been a very funny day....after much deliberation and procrastination (we've been living together for 9 years!) Mr Roo and myself decided to get married....This entailed convincing two friends that, no, we were not joking, that it would be a purely legal affair and that, yes, there would only be the four of us....So three weeks ago we approached the register office: slightly bemused lady who didn't quite know what to do when we told her we wanted the shortest service possible, woul

Mini-roo.....

Hehehehehehe! Had my scan today! Wow! I am so amazed..... :o Mini-Roo didn't want to play ball at first and spent the first five minutes fast asleep in a tight ball, before being prodded awake by the scanning lady!He (suddenly I want to call it he? Hmmmmmmmm) then proceeded to give a big stretch and splayed all it's little fingers and toes.....LOVELY!!! Anyways, two legs two arms and a strong heartbeat, so all is as good as can be expected..... It was such an amazing experience, I

Lovely Day...

Well, it's a lovely sunny day in Roo land and Mini Roo is also being extra sunny and smiley (the pic was taken just now!). I actually managed to get half an hour in the garden yesterday. It is looking really lovely. We decided that as it is our first year here, that we'd just leave it and see what comes up before doing anything else. It had looked like quite a mature garden with loads of plants and shrubs, and now it's looking even better: we've got loads of primroses, dafs, tulips, snowdrops

Gosh And Glue....

Well what a week we've had so far, but it's all been well worth it! Monday, we arrive at Great Ormond Street, where they immediately gave Smellie a set of blood tests, then we met the SHO and the assistant anaesthetist, before being left to our own devices... As she was first on the list the next day, I was able to give her her a last feed at 4am before leaving her to Nil By Mouth for the next four hours...this I was dreading as she generally comfort feeds, and I really didn't want her too ups

Piccies....

Well, here she is in all her glory....My very own little scrap of naughtiness, Miss Nellie the (very small) Elephant. She's still being utterly adorable (but then they all are aren't they?) and we even managed to get 6 hours sleep last night.Talk soonMummy Roo :o

Nearly two....

Well, next week Miss Nellie will be two years old. It seems like the time has flown by and I hardly remember what it was like to have a small baby (I also hardly remember what it was like to have a poorly small baby, which is even better!). In fact, time has so much flown by that everyone I know is now having their second babies. We've been 'hum-ing and ha-ing' over a second one for ages now, but neither of us is particularly keen on the idea. During a chat with my friend the other day, I sudde

Long time

Well, I don't seem to get much time here anymore: Little Nellie Roo is taking up most of it. She's such a wonderful little thing. She's now 15 months old and is a little girl and not a baby anymore. She's still very smiley and is great fun: I really cannot believe how lucky I am! She's been walking since 11 months, and is now into everything....no sofa is too high to climb on and no surface too slippy to slide on! She's also discovered the wonder of wellies and thinks puddles are great

Baby.....

Well, it's now getting towards the final countdown for mini-Roo's appearance and so myself and Mr Roo thought it was about time we actually got our posteriors in gear and starting thinking about getting some baby things.....After spending 45 minutes in the country's largest Mothercare we both started to regret the decision.....I mean, how many different types of plastic bath and changing mat can you need for heaven's sake.... if it's plastic and does the job then who needs more??? I was amazed t

Ahem!

well, I am now completely over my cold, but have found the reason why I've STILL been feeling very tired and a bit queezy!!! Yep, you guessed it...the Roo is going to have a Mini-Roo!!! Completely unexpected, but I am feeling great (apart from the fact that I feel completely on another planet....maybe my brain is already shrinking????). Andrew is very happy too, although it has to be said that we're both looking a little shell shocked at the mo! Actually the funniest reaction was my mum who w

Baby Stuff...

well I had my second Parent Craft class on monday, which was interesting. I also got to have a nose around the birth centre which was absolutely marvellous. It has five ensuite rooms, all decked out in peach and cream decor, with curtains, plants, TVs, etc....Although the place is obviously functional with lino floors, etc, it really felt very calm and relaxing and exactly the kind of non-medicalised place I want to give birth in. Mr Roo can stay in the room with me after the birth (they have sp

Birthday

For Nellie's birthday we went to Bekonscot miniature village in Beaconsfield and had a lovely day out (even though it was freezing and cloudy!). It's one of those wonderful places that got frozen in time somewhere back in the early 20th century and has a gentle kind of enjoyment you don't often get nowadays (Nellie hasn't reached the cynical stage yet, so I can still get away 'fun' things!!!! ). Anyway after two goes on the little railway, a peek in the windows of some tiny houses, sandwiches

Huggeeeeeeee!

Saw the health visitor again yesterday, and it turns out my attempts to become Daisy the Milch Cow have not been in vain, as little scrapper has managed to put on 9 1/2 oz!!!! Well at least we know her weight is OK. The hernia keeps coming up, and I can't wait for the referral just to check that all is OK. Oh and the little darling now has colic, so guess how much sleep we're not getting.....

Good And Bad Day

yesterday we saw the health visitor who weighed the mini-roo and confirmed that she had put on a whole 5 1/2 oz and so was not of concern anymore...yayayayayayayay! In addition, her jaundice is definitely going and they don't want to do any blood tests, etc which is great! But then last night, while we were changing her, we noticed a little lump in her groin which got worse when she was crying....it seems it's a type of hernia called an inguinal hernia, and from hunting the web, the only cure

Birds...

Well, as of today, we officially have our own bird population! Yippeee!!! We have 2 chafficnhes, two blue tits and a big bolshy house sparrow! And they love the feeders, so looks like they were the perfect thing to have!Ridiculous how such a silly little thing can make you feel so happy isn't it?

Mini-roo Hides Again.....

Well I went for my third scan this morning....and it was great!!!Lovely woman, very reassuring and friendly, went through everything she was doing and was just generally a complete contrast to the old bag I saw last time (who, incidentally was also working today, and I could hear her having a go at someone else about something, horrible old cow that she is.....).Anyways, mini-roo did his/her usual trick of hiding deep down (apparently he loves curling up tight as a ball each time they try to sca

Grrrrrrrrrrr.....

Well today I had my scan in honour of mini-roo's 23rd week.....and what a pooey experience it was!I should say here and now that mini-roo is 100% OK and that all is well and everything has been accounted for. No, my probglem was with the grumpy old cow of a scanning person who made the whole thing damn unpleasant.....She gets me in there, and as mini-roo has a penchant for lying really low and fast asleep at the bottom of the womb, she tips me right back to try and get him out. Now mini-roo does

Kicking....

Well it's official: mini-roo has discovered the joys of giving me hefty kicks! Had felt movements for a little bit, but over the last 48 hours the little so and so has discovered the art of giving me a big clout in the bladder! It's very odd and is happening almost every hour. I also think they are lying with their feet on my left as the biggy kicks are always on my left whereas there are little, what I assume to be punches, on my right side....Such a very weird feeling...was convinced it must b

'nother Long Time...

...since I had a ramble on, so I thought you were all about due for another one! No, please come back, don't go! So what has been happening in Roo world? Well.....there is the house fiasco, which is still ongoing (but I have a bit of flu, which is making me less anxious than I might have been...I must be nuts though? Considering moving whilst pregnant...not good!)Talking of pregnancies, all is going well....bump is getting bigger and mini-roo is making it's presence felt (even Andrew co

Back At Work....

Well today I finally managed to get back to the office (have been keeping out of London for a bit as I can't walk too far and didn't want to get stuck in a hoax scare!)....It was very strange coming in this morning...took my usual train, then the number 30 (everyone being very friendly and nice: a lot of people even thanked the driver when they got off) past King's Cross and the huge pile of flowers, flags and messages and then walked the last little bit to work off Euston Road and down Tavisto

Housey, Housey....

wellll in the world of Roo life is being remarkably straightforward at the moment...something just HAS to go wrong...The house is going through very quickly....pot luck solicitor is great, surveyor has been wonderful and the house has no faults not consistent with a victorian property....oh and the mortgage offer has come through! It's all going just tooooo well.....On the downside, had a phone call from work today to say my office has been broken into! Our department is getting burgled on avera

Well today is the day that I turn 34... and what an unusual birthday it is....No dinner out ( I can't cope with cooking smells at the mo) and no toast to celebrate either.....oh well! film and a pizza I think, if I can manage it!But so far it has been a very good birthday...Got bought some lovely things, including a guide to british birdsong, which has two cds so you can listen too.....blooming marvellous and EXACTLY what I've always wanted....great for listening to when I have to put my feet up

Sleepy....

hello, haven't done this for a week...oops! Been quite busy, working, sleeping (my new hobby) and looking for houses....Spent much of the weekend sifting through housing papers and looking them on the web....NOW I realise why they say St. Albans is around the second most expensive place in the country! Owch!Oh well, at least we've got good salaries, but I really do wonder how on earth people who are earning less, or indeed anyone younger than their 30s manages...it really is soooooo expensive....
