Yukky....

well today I had the honour of being able to witness another nellie first: her umbilical cord stump falling off...and what a blurghy thing that was...but thank god it's gone, as everything looks so much dryer and nicer now without this bit of flesh hanging off her (sorry for the gory detail, but to a sleep deprived and baby bluesy mum like me, it really was not very nice at all!). Anyway, apart from that all is good in the land of Roo...the little scrapper still hasn't worked out that nighttime

You couldn't make it up...

Well, it's a week since the funeral (and the howling gales!) and things are definitely looking up. The roof is in a queue to be fixed (we developed a leak!) and the insurance have paid up without a squeak (how I love Liverpool Victoria insurance company!). Anyway, although all that is OK, the probate saga continues: so far, my nasty uncle has written my dad a 5 page letter accusing him of trying to get all my nan's money (cough! splutter!) my cousin has claimed my nan gave her the jewellry befo

Yippppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Well what a day! Little Smellie had been really not herself todayand had been comfort feeding and bawling her eyes out, and straining so after 8 hours of weird behaviour we decided that enough was enough and to go to A&E (the GP had said to do just that if she changed her behaviour at all...)..... Got seen straight away as a priority case and saw a lovely consultant who checked her all over, looked at the hernia, and has decided that as long as it remains this size that it will not need an

World Swim...

Well, today's the day for the World Swim for Malaria and so far all is going well... Although they haven't hit the million mark, they've got over 1/4 million participating and the cash is pouring in... not bad for an enterprise started by a few people operating out of their back bedrooms, eh? They've extended the event until 3rd June, as so many people only just recently found out about it... Soooo...if you want to take part, donate, etc there is still plenty of time! If you want to se

Windy....

well after a mild and wet start this morning (whilst we were on our way out, of course!) we've now got scudding cloud and the temp has dropped....fingers crossed for even a smattering of snow! Did the trip into town to get shopping and spent most of the time being battered and pushed about by hoards of men desperately scouring the shops for roses and a heart shaped box of chocs........The majority of younger men have pushchairs with them: very Islington set in St. Albans....the men get sent out

What A Day....

Well, it looks as if London has been targeted again.....terrible news! Will it never end?But for me personally today has been a better day. Went to see midwife who gave me a check over and all has been pronounced to be going well...blood pressure is low, no sugars or protein where they shouldn't be :o and mini-roo's heart beat is pumping away....Mentioned to her about the nasty sonographer and her words were 'oooooo well next time you just don't pay attention to the nasty woman....WE will deci

We Have A House!

Yippee!!!! The house finally went through yesterday and we went round yesterday lunchtime to have a recky, and it is even better than we remembered Needs a lick or two of paint in a coupld of the rooms, just to brighten things up, but apart from that, it's great.....It's a Victorian terrace which has loads of original features like cast iron fireplaces, stripped antique pine doors, stripped built in cupboards, quarry tile floor in the kitchen, and a lovely cosy garden which even has it's own p

Very Long Time...

well, it's absolutely ages since I last wrote this, so I thought I'd better do a bit of catching up....so what has happened? Well, I had my first midwife's visit, which went very well (lovely woman...great fun, and not at all patronising!), had parents down for a visit (lovely to see them), did lots more work for the archaeology lot I work for, did some stuff for Andrew and the web site, didn't find a house to live in (oh well!),.....oooooo and we got a car! It's very old (11 years) and belonged

Tired

hello all.....well my brain appears to ahve come back on line a little bit, which is very nice. I'm starting to think it was probably stunned into inoperation by the thought of pregnancy...I've never really thought of myself as the maternal type IYKWIM....spent a lot of years working, me and Mr Roo have been together for ages without geting wed or feeling a great urge to prodcue mini-roos.....but now that it's happening, I'm really getting used to the idea....I'm actually starting to feela litt

The Pumpkin...

Well little nellie is one week old, and what a week it's been. She is such a contented and funny little baby and has a massive range of facial expressions to keep me and Mr Roo amused with. She also hasn't been told what she's supposed to do as a newborn, and has been able to hold her head up (very unnerving when she did it for the first few times) since she was two days old. She has also worked out that whatever is within grasp of her hands (she has really long fingers like her dad) can be pul

Tgif....

well it's friday at last...yippee! Long weekend of doing nothing stretches ahead which will be nice...that's if I can extracate andrew from the computer which, as many others have said on here, is not always easy...the joys of working from home!Anyway, got a nice long walk in the park planned if the weather is nice (if it's not to wet and cold) the usual dutiful stuff, like shopping and washing and catching up on some other stuff...OOoooooo...BTW...watched 'Ice Age' for the first time last night

Sunny Scotland...

Well, I'm back! And what a lovely time we had....10 days of sun and relaxation at my parents lovely home in SW Scotland. They live in a converted school on top of a hill (nearest neighbour 1 mile) and have an acre of land, a big barn, a bothy (workshop) and have lots of lovely walks and views all round their house.... it's heaven! We had a great few days: the weather was marvellous with only one day of rain, but the rest sunny and hot. We managed to get out and about lots, paddling in the sea,

Strange Day...

well today has been one of those days....have got a low level bug of some sort, so am feeling a little under the weather (more tired than anything else) so after lying in bed till my bladder could stand it no more (any girl who's ever had a sprog knows exactly what I mean), I got up and pootled about for a little doing not very much. Then at lunchtime had to go and see midwife (all is well....and she doesn't want to see me again for another three weeks, which is great). Then came home to find a ca

Still Waiting.....

it's cold and very windy here today, but despite a few flakes this morning (and I mean a few!) we haven't had any more snow....Every now and again, the sky goes dark, I run to the window, the cloud thickens and then just moves off....I reckon we must be just to west of everywhere getting snow....sob!Apart from that, not much to report....got up late, read the papers, watched a bit of telly, and now I'm back here again, surfing the boards.....I'd really like some snow....even just a little bit wo

Spring Has Sprung

Well, this week has been great as Nellie has finally broken the 9lb mark, and is now 9lb 5oz!!!! <_< She's sooooo much fun now...is smiling at everything and anything (even managed to disrupt my post natal class first aid class yesterday by laughing and smiling at the poor girl giving us the resuscitation lesson!). The last few days have been grand: the health visitor has finally decided that she's perfectly fit and healthy (no, really? like we didn't know that...) but is just small, an

Spoke Too Soon....

appetite has gone back to nothing....rats!am eating lots of carrots, cucumber and celery....oh and apples and oranges, and cheese and bread but anything in the way of hot food or fatty things is just a real turn off....hey ho!Had mum and dad down at the weekend.....had a fun time. They're both over the moon about me being preggers and mum was running around doing all the washing up and checking I was OK...very nice! Went over to see the red kits at Lewknor again....beautiful birds....so huge a

So now we know...

Yesterday Miss Nellie erupted with a nasty rash all over her body, and even on her face, but otherwise she was 100% fine.... After hunting the internet for information, I think I've found what might have been the problem all along: Roseola! Virus that effects children aged 6 months to 3 years.....check! Starts with rapid and very high fever.....check! Apart from fever, no other symptoms.....check! Child often has febrile convulsion.....check! Fever lasts from 3 to 5 days.....check! When fever en

Snow...

well today has been another odd day in Snorbens weather....woke this morning to coldish, but damp conditions, then around lunchtime it started coming down with little bits of snow, and has been on and off ever since...nothing layed until it got dark, but now it certainly is!But the fantastic thing was, the snow during the day, was the most perfect crystalline snow I've ever seen....each flake was a little beautiful six pointed fella and none stuck together, each flake was individual and beautifu

According to my clock it is now exactly 15 hours and 23 minutes since I had my last cigarette........SO WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE 3 YEARS AGO??????!!!No...I am fine...I can do this....really...I can.....maybe.....HELP!Better again...I have patches you know....and an inhalator....and lozenges.....BUT THE ONE THING I DON'T HAVE IS A CIGGIE......OH WHAT I WOULD DO FOR A SMOKE RIGHT NOW....no I can do this....Pros: I won't die as quicklyI won't smell like an ashtrayI will have

Sleepy....

hello, haven't done this for a week...oops! Been quite busy, working, sleeping (my new hobby) and looking for houses....Spent much of the weekend sifting through housing papers and looking them on the web....NOW I realise why they say St. Albans is around the second most expensive place in the country! Owch!Oh well, at least we've got good salaries, but I really do wonder how on earth people who are earning less, or indeed anyone younger than their 30s manages...it really is soooooo expensive....

Sleeeeeeepppp....

Well after spending most of yesterday cat napping, little ellen finally decided to sleep last night for 3 hours each time before she wanted a feed, which gave me a chance to catch some proper zzzzzzzzz's. Mr Roo went into London today to pick up some work stuff for me, so I spent several hours this morning doing that which was rather nice: it's good to have something to take my mind off the worries and joys of being a mum: it's like my mum said.... every single thing to do with having a child is

Slacking....

I haven't done this for a couple of days, so thought I'd better get my backside in gear and get on with it....woke this morning to another covering of snow (went and scooped up large quantities of it for my indoor-azalea Archie, who very much hates our nasty tap water!) and had a little paddle about outdoors in my big warm coat, scarf and gloves! Of course, by now all snow has gone again, but it is almost getting to the point where, when I open the curtains in the morning, I expect snow!Anyway,

Sheds...

Now, for anyone who is not already absolutely sick of the topic: sheds!............no, please come back.....don't go...I didn't mean it.....really! anyway, had a fun day today playing around with photoshop and getting the battle plans drawn up for the mission tonight (if you don't know what I'm talking about...then go check out the threads!)....Commander MM0NDX seems to have everything under control and has a capable side kick with Gunner Squits...I am sure they will be successful and OON's sh

She's Here!

just to let you know that Ellen Rose decided that she wasn't waiting till November and arrived yesterday at 2am after a 2 1/2 hour labour(waters broke 24 before...). She was born in a pool at the birth centre, although cos she's a scrap, we had to then go to hospital where she got the all clear. She's a tiny little scrap at 5lb 6oz, but is really healthy and placid (I get a feeling that won't last!). All 3 of us are doing grand, although we're all shattered! Will talk to you all very soon, once w
