Roo's Ramblings.....

I Do....

Well today has been a very funny day....after much deliberation and procrastination (we've been living together for 9 years!) Mr Roo and myself decided to get married....This entailed convincing two friends that, no, we were not joking, that it would be a purely legal affair and that, yes, there would only be the four of us....So three weeks ago we approached the register office: slightly bemused lady who didn't quite know what to do when we told her we wanted the shortest service possible, woul

Nearly two....

Well, next week Miss Nellie will be two years old. It seems like the time has flown by and I hardly remember what it was like to have a small baby (I also hardly remember what it was like to have a poorly small baby, which is even better!). In fact, time has so much flown by that everyone I know is now having their second babies. We've been 'hum-ing and ha-ing' over a second one for ages now, but neither of us is particularly keen on the idea. During a chat with my friend the other day, I sudde

She's Here!

just to let you know that Ellen Rose decided that she wasn't waiting till November and arrived yesterday at 2am after a 2 1/2 hour labour(waters broke 24 before...). She was born in a pool at the birth centre, although cos she's a scrap, we had to then go to hospital where she got the all clear. She's a tiny little scrap at 5lb 6oz, but is really healthy and placid (I get a feeling that won't last!). All 3 of us are doing grand, although we're all shattered! Will talk to you all very soon, once w

Lovely Day...

Well, it's a lovely sunny day in Roo land and Mini Roo is also being extra sunny and smiley (the pic was taken just now!). I actually managed to get half an hour in the garden yesterday. It is looking really lovely. We decided that as it is our first year here, that we'd just leave it and see what comes up before doing anything else. It had looked like quite a mature garden with loads of plants and shrubs, and now it's looking even better: we've got loads of primroses, dafs, tulips, snowdrops

Piccies....

Well, here she is in all her glory....My very own little scrap of naughtiness, Miss Nellie the (very small) Elephant. She's still being utterly adorable (but then they all are aren't they?) and we even managed to get 6 hours sleep last night.Talk soonMummy Roo :o

Gosh And Glue....

Well what a week we've had so far, but it's all been well worth it! Monday, we arrive at Great Ormond Street, where they immediately gave Smellie a set of blood tests, then we met the SHO and the assistant anaesthetist, before being left to our own devices... As she was first on the list the next day, I was able to give her her a last feed at 4am before leaving her to Nil By Mouth for the next four hours...this I was dreading as she generally comfort feeds, and I really didn't want her too ups

Cats

Miss Nellie wrote her letter to Father Christmas. Miss Nellie was specific in her requirements: she wanted a 'cat and nuffing else'. Hmmmmm.....well seeing as Nellie lives in a busy town, in a terrace house with a tiny garden, this just wasn't going to happen. Santa had to think long and hard about how he could achieve Miss Nellie's requirements and he came up with this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/...=kids&img=1 In a moment of rash over-enthusiasm, he also came up with t

Baby.....

Well, it's now getting towards the final countdown for mini-Roo's appearance and so myself and Mr Roo thought it was about time we actually got our posteriors in gear and starting thinking about getting some baby things.....After spending 45 minutes in the country's largest Mothercare we both started to regret the decision.....I mean, how many different types of plastic bath and changing mat can you need for heaven's sake.... if it's plastic and does the job then who needs more??? I was amazed t

Scary day....

Tuesday morning, Nellie was lying on the sofa with a bit of a temperature, but nothing serious. Me and her daddy went in to do the regular check, and we noticed she was lying funny. We then realised she had her eyes rolled back, having a seizure, and her temp was sky high. This is the most frightening thing I have ever witnessed in my life: she was shaking and utterly limp and everytime she looked at me, she just looked straight through me as if I wasn't there. At points we could hardly hear he

Long time

Well, I don't seem to get much time here anymore: Little Nellie Roo is taking up most of it. She's such a wonderful little thing. She's now 15 months old and is a little girl and not a baby anymore. She's still very smiley and is great fun: I really cannot believe how lucky I am! She's been walking since 11 months, and is now into everything....no sofa is too high to climb on and no surface too slippy to slide on! She's also discovered the wonder of wellies and thinks puddles are great

Mini-roo.....

Hehehehehehe! Had my scan today! Wow! I am so amazed..... :o Mini-Roo didn't want to play ball at first and spent the first five minutes fast asleep in a tight ball, before being prodded awake by the scanning lady!He (suddenly I want to call it he? Hmmmmmmmm) then proceeded to give a big stretch and splayed all it's little fingers and toes.....LOVELY!!! Anyways, two legs two arms and a strong heartbeat, so all is as good as can be expected..... It was such an amazing experience, I

Perfect Day.....

Well what a fun day today is: it's my grandmother's funeral and we can't go because we don't want to risk taking Mini Roo on a longish trek to the coast in weather like this. Now, to most normal people this would be a disaster, but to be honest with my weirdly disfunctional family it is a blessed relief: no seeing the nasty bit of work who likes to call himself my uncle, but who has been syphoning off my nan's cash for the last few years. Also no cousin, who within a day of my nan dying had bee

At Last...

Well a lot has happened this week.... Little scrapper's hernia seemed to be going OK and wasn't getting any worse, but suddenly on saturday night she developed a matching second one on the other side.... Soooo...we then start chasing our urgent referral (which still hasn't come through after 1 1/2 weeks!!!) and finally, through the kindness of a medical sec who bumps us up the list, get seen yesterday by a paediatric surgeon. He agrees something needs doing sooner rather than later, but as she's

Ahem!

well, I am now completely over my cold, but have found the reason why I've STILL been feeling very tired and a bit queezy!!! Yep, you guessed it...the Roo is going to have a Mini-Roo!!! Completely unexpected, but I am feeling great (apart from the fact that I feel completely on another planet....maybe my brain is already shrinking????). Andrew is very happy too, although it has to be said that we're both looking a little shell shocked at the mo! Actually the funniest reaction was my mum who w

And they love the feeders, so looks like they were the perfect thing to have!Ridiculous how such a silly little thing can make you feel so happy isn't it?

Long Time..

...no writey my blog! All is grand in the world of Roo and Little Roo....she's now had the second set of jabs, and was her usual calm and friendly self, even managing a smile for the girl who had jabbed her! She's still a teeny little scrap (8 1/2lbs), but is really getting on fast: her latest trick is being able to sit up for a few seconds. Oh, and the other big trouble is she is beginning to be able to move herself...this morning when I lay her on her front she did that wriggle th

My Mum And Dad.....

I thought I'd write about my mum and dad in this blog, seeing as they've been down this weekend....Now my parents are a pair of stars: both had had their fair share of trauma through the years. Dad retired at 50 due to ill health and my mum has early onset osteo arthritis and as well as having a double hip replacement at 50, also got hit with the menopause and a breakdown all in the same year. Recently my poor dad has been suffering from a neurological complication of his original illness which

Housey, Housey....

wellll in the world of Roo life is being remarkably straightforward at the moment...something just HAS to go wrong...The house is going through very quickly....pot luck solicitor is great, surveyor has been wonderful and the house has no faults not consistent with a victorian property....oh and the mortgage offer has come through! It's all going just tooooo well.....On the downside, had a phone call from work today to say my office has been broken into! Our department is getting burgled on avera

34...

Well today is the day that I turn 34... and what an unusual birthday it is....No dinner out ( I can't cope with cooking smells at the mo) and no toast to celebrate either.....oh well! film and a pizza I think, if I can manage it!But so far it has been a very good birthday...Got bought some lovely things, including a guide to british birdsong, which has two cds so you can listen too.....blooming marvellous and EXACTLY what I've always wanted....great for listening to when I have to put my feet up

Sleepy....

hello, haven't done this for a week...oops! Been quite busy, working, sleeping (my new hobby) and looking for houses....Spent much of the weekend sifting through housing papers and looking them on the web....NOW I realise why they say St. Albans is around the second most expensive place in the country! Owch!Oh well, at least we've got good salaries, but I really do wonder how on earth people who are earning less, or indeed anyone younger than their 30s manages...it really is soooooo expensive....

Horrible Day...

well today will go down as yet another example of terrorism in London...Today both myself and mr Roo were at home (thank goodness) but yet again, it's been a case of had it been monday, had it been last week, etc, etc....The bomb on the bus went off 50 yards from my office and have been trying to get through to friends and colleagues all day.....luckily everyone at the Institute has been accounted for. The foyer of the building is being used to treat minor casualties, and UCL are rapidly trying

Good And Bad Day

yesterday we saw the health visitor who weighed the mini-roo and confirmed that she had put on a whole 5 1/2 oz and so was not of concern anymore...yayayayayayayay! In addition, her jaundice is definitely going and they don't want to do any blood tests, etc which is great! But then last night, while we were changing her, we noticed a little lump in her groin which got worse when she was crying....it seems it's a type of hernia called an inguinal hernia, and from hunting the web, the only cure

Food.....

well...for the last few days, I have actually got my appetite back, so fingers crossed and here's hoping that I'm through the worst of the morning-afternoon sickness....was timed perfectly to coincide with my bestest friend taking me out for lunch to celebrate my birthday last week and the sproglet.Went to Momo, which is behind Regent Street, and it was absolutely gorgeous...for those of you that don't know, it's an extremely celeb-famous Moroccan restaurant, but what I love about it, is that ne
