Why? General Questions That Annoy Me In Life

1) why do cashiers in supermarkets insist on opening 37 (on the last count) carrier bags and leaving them ready for you while the person before yous debit card goes through (I mean - they have to wait all of 3 seconds - why does the cashier feel the need to do this and clearly at the most, you only need 6 bags at the most for a weekly shop - 12 loo rolls included) Highly annoying as it means half the shopping is lost under plastic bags as its wizzed down the till. 2) Why does Mini Raven feel th

Christmas Shopping

Arrrgggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! But I am pleased to say trawling behind impossibly slow people who suddenly stop infront of me in a packed shopping centre is over for another year. Not to mention some mothers with buggies who can only steer in a straight line (into my dainty ankles). Just the stuff I can order off the internet (CD's/DVD's etc) for me left. Mr Raven, being the laid back soul that he is won't do his Christmas shopping until Saturday 24th December. (Lets hope they still have Take

Chesty Cough (not A Russian Name)

I have been feeling a tad run down of late, and to top it all off, I now have a horrid chesty cough that has appeared from no where. I havent had a cold recently, so I can only guess there is a chesty cough virus going around (hopefully not on onset of bird flu, anyway). It catches me when I breathe, talk (much to the amusement of Mr Raven) and well - pretty much do anything Sleeping has been a nightmare of late - but now its doubley worse when I drop off for 30 minutes, only to be woken up wit

Trip To London (well, Ground Floor Of Harrods)

We got back from London about an hour ago. Not much to say really, except don't bother on a Saturday 6 weeks before Christmas. Oh and posh people have no dress sense, manners and are arrogant fools. An hour in Harrods and I could bare it no longer! Plus my feet are killing. Gosh, what a miserable blog!!

Birthday Suprise (belated)

As some of you will know, I have been building my hopes up that Mr Raven might just use his own initiative and do something out of the ordinary for my birthday. For some of you lucky people who have experienced a partner sweeping you off your feet, this will probably involve a romantic trip to Paris, or a week in Cyprus. For me, a meal out at the local resturant without months of hinting is enough. Anyway, after day dreaming that Mr R has secretly booked a table at the local posh resturant tha

Nosey Old Bint...

......thats me. I just couldnt resist looking for my birthday presents.. and I have found one (well, it had better be my bithday present). Part of me is shocked that Mr Raven has actually remembered (and taken the hint)...... and the other half is disapointed at myself for looking for them. I add the word 'them' as there had better be more than one !

Feeling Down

I'm having one of my very rare 'feeling down' moments. No good asking me why, as I cant answer that question! I wouldnt go as far as to say I feel depressed, as having been genuinely depressed, I know I can snap myself out of this current 'down' mood. However, I just felt the need to write down (or say out loud!) how I feel. (get the violins out!) I will snap out of it - I have been here before. However, I dunno - I just felt the need to write down how I feel - and now you lucky peop

Shock Horror!

I came home from work tonight to find my blood pressure results on the mat (well, floor, since we dont have a mat to wipe your feet) Anyway, it turns out that after 10 months of tests, they have discovered.............................................. that I dont actually have any problems what so ever with it! My 24 hour blood pressure results were: during the day - 131/81 and during the night, 124/78. This, rather embarrassingly means (I did think it was this, but was far to ashamed to admit

Thank Ya Very Much.....

......thank ya very much, thats the nicest thing that anyone ever dun for me.... yes, for those of you that have seen the film version of Scrooge that had Albert Finney & Alec Guiness (sp) in will know what tune I am 'singing' (if you can call it that!) We went to see the stage version of Scrooge - The Musical at the London Palladium last night, and what an excellent show it was. Scrooge was played by Tommy Steele (someone I think the over 50's might remember) and he was pretty good in t

Birthday Presents

Well, its Mr Raven's birthday on Monday, and he is hitting the big 13 30. (this strike out comes in handy!) Today, me and mini raven went shopping to get the last of his presents. I had already bought him (well, and me aswell!) tickets to see Scrooge the Musical at the West End. Then I got him the usual silly present (handy hints around the house type book thingy) and today, me and mini raven chose some aftershave for him. We ended up cornered in Boots by an over helpful shop assistant who

Parents Evening

Had Mini-R's first parent evening tonight. She has 2 teachers who do job share (Mrs O'Flynn Mon-Wed and Mrs Stewart Thurs/Fri) Mrs O'Flynn is the typical lovely Primary School teacher, but Mrs Stewart has the ability to scare me 16 years after leaving Primary School!Little'un is doing very well at school, and isn't causing any concern. They are really pleased with her progress. They said she is a very happy child, always happy and smilling.... obviously she must save her 'moments' for when sh

Upset

I had some sad news today. My Great Uncle passed away this morning.I guess it was to be expected as he had been ill for 5 weeks. He collasped at his home, and it turned out is auorta had burst. He was rushed to his local hospital, then taken by ambulance to St Thomas' where he had heart surgery. They fixed it the best they could and he spent 4 weeks in ITU. He was moved back to his local hospital last week. Its still a shock when the phone call comes to tell you and my Grandad has taken th

Scrooge - The Musical

Occasionally, there are perks to working for the NHS. The first (since I started working there in 1996) was watching 'The Tweenies - LIVE' earlier in the year for £2 per person at Docklands Arena. The 2nd perk in 9 years is watching the preview of 'Scrooge - The Musical' at the London Palladium on the evening of 31st October. £5 a ticket!! (usually £30-ish). So I purchased a ticket for myself and Mr R. (who it just so happens is his birthday on the 31st) So thats his birthday pressie sorted

Proud Mum

I know that most of you aren't too bothered about mini-raven's achievements (or what goes on in the land of Raven, come to think of it!!), but thought I would blow her trumpet for her anyway (plus I am bursting with proudness!)She's been at school for just over 2 weeks, and can now read 15 words, and can write some of them on her own. It was lovely to see a positive comment from her teacher in her contact book today letting us know that she has written 'Sat, Fat and Cat' by herself today :o

Blood Pressure!!

well, as some of you who frequent General Banter will know, I have been hooked up to a 24 hour BP machine. What joy its been as well..... not! The only good thing about it, is it has put my mind at rest with regards to my BP - the highest reading so far has been 143/92 (when I got back from the hospital after driving the car) it stayed at that level for about 2 hours, then gradually came down. The lowest reading (so far - that I am aware of) was 119/69. All the other readings have been in betw

Blogs

well, I only discovered the blogs section on NW a few months ago (well, around 3 or 4 months ago, I think  ) and started my own up in July.Tonight, I have spent the evening reading some old blogs - (the blogs that I hadnt read as they are months and months old.) :o I personally feel like I have got to know a lot of personalities on here properly in the last few months (even though I have been a member for 9 months) and its lovely to catch up on everyones old blogs, and what has gone o

Mini-raven's 1st Day At School

As some of you will know (as I haven't shut up about it!) Mini-Raven started school today. This morning, she seemed a little quiet, so I asked her how she was feeling about starting school. She said she was frightened incase she didnt make any friends. I reassured her that she would, and that all the other children are feeling like she was this morning. We had to drop her off at 9.30am, and we walked her into the class room. Her eyes filled up with tears when we had to leave, but after a cuddl

Driving

well, what can I say? After an 8 year break from driving (after only driving for 6 months) its like I never gave up.This time around, I am more mature (well, there are those that would argue with that statement) and don't feel the need to wizz here there and everywhere, and am taking things at my own pace.Instead of feeling self conscious (sp) when someone over takes me, I couldnt care less. When I was 19, I used to take that kind of thing personnally. The only bad experience I have had was d

Crabs

We went to Westgate beach today. Never been there before, but Mr R insisted on going as he spent many a happy childhood there (with his strange parents) back in 1982.Anyway, I grinned and bared it down there, knowing I would hate it purely because its associated with the parents in law from Hell (and believe me, I am not exagerating - if I wasnt so shy, I would be a star on ITV1's parent in laws from Hell programme)Anyway, suprise, suprise, it was a .................... suprisingly pleasant day

New Car

Well, its all very exciting (well, I guess I should be excited, but really I am rather aprehensive!) in our household.I have bought myself a car (not a new one - a K reg Clio) off my friend. Lovely little car, I have to say. I passed my test in October 1996, drove until the Summer of 1997, and eventually gave up. I lack a lot of confidence in myself and my capabilities when it comes to driving (among other things!)I had a few nasty 'road rage' episodes to the build up of me giving up. One of

Maps

Well, arrived back from Dymchurch unscathed (but a little sun burnt). We were, however, lucky to get there at any point today.Mr Raven, (the know it all that he is) knew the way to Dymchurch, so I thought, fair enough, he knows (as usual), I'll leave it to him.Well, I nodded off to sleep at Ashford, and awoke in Dover (of all places). The FOOL had driven on the wrong motoway. We needed to be on the A20/M20. He went on the A2/M2. We don't have an A-Z in the car because we don't need one (app

Phobia (one Of Many)

Sorry peeps - ignore this blog. Just noticed I had just done my 13th (shudder!) blog entry and I have a phobia against that number, which meant that I was convinced something bad would happen to us on our trip to Dymchurch if I left the house on that number of blogs.Since nothing exciting happened to me last night (not even a good dream to tell you all) I just thought I would let you know the reason for this silly blog entry.Phew, I can leave the house!

Tights (and Fat Thighs)

Hello everyone who bothers to read my blog and the exciting life I lead.....Yesterday, we went to The Hop Farm in Paddock Wood (Kent) Won't bore you with the details. All you need to know is I wasnt eaten by a goat. (Although a peacock did take liking to me) Not only that, but I didnt wear tights yesterday, and thats the whole point of my blog entry. (gosh - managed to avoid a waffling moment!)Today, we went to Howletts Zoo (in Kent again, funny enough)Had a lovely day, saw some tigers, gor

Hastings

Well, have just come back from a lovely day at the Beach. Had a fabarooni time (I really must stop watching the Tweenies) the weather was perfect (a tad hot in my jeans - but not boiling) and the sun went in the clouds every now and again giving some rest bite. (trust me to have left my sunglasses at home)After being slightly traumatized on the drive down there by a squashed badger on the A21 (poor little thing) and a couple of run over phesants, we parked the car (eventually!) and headed str
