My Blog

I've just had a little re-read of some of my blog entries this past year. My god, I do talk some waffly crap. Apologies to anyone who has wasted a small part of their lives reading it!

Chesty Cough (not A Russian Name)

I have been feeling a tad run down of late, and to top it all off, I now have a horrid chesty cough that has appeared from no where. I havent had a cold recently, so I can only guess there is a chesty cough virus going around (hopefully not on onset of bird flu, anyway). It catches me when I breathe, talk (much to the amusement of Mr Raven) and well - pretty much do anything Sleeping has been a nightmare of late - but now its doubley worse when I drop off for 30 minutes, only to be woken up wit

Huzzah!

Well, after numerous cancellations (sp), and general NHS co ck ups*, Granddad finally had his op today to remove the tumour in his bowel. So far, its successful, and he should be out of ICU on thursday. *missing notes, cancelled operations, missing blood tests, incorrect information - but hey, the service is free! (minus the £200000 (slight exageration?) he has paid over the years with tax and national insurance) The one staggering thing I have learnt today though is, there are 6 ICU beds in th

Growing Old

I think the life cycle is all backwards.......... You should die first, start out dead and get it out of the way. Then you wake up in a nursing home, feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, you're generally promiscuous, and you get ready for Secondary School. You go to primar

Greedy B*stards

This year is the first year we have had to book a holiday during school holidays. We are going to the Isle of Wight (my favourite haven in the world.... well, in the affordable world). Anyway. Last year, we went in June for 1 week, and it cost (board and ferry ride) £400 for all 3 of us. This year, its costing £700. The reason? We are limited to going in school holidays. An hour's ferry ride (no doubt packed to the rafters without a seat) is costing us £150 alone. Thats without the petrol

Feeling Down

I'm having one of my very rare 'feeling down' moments. No good asking me why, as I cant answer that question! I wouldnt go as far as to say I feel depressed, as having been genuinely depressed, I know I can snap myself out of this current 'down' mood. However, I just felt the need to write down (or say out loud!) how I feel. (get the violins out!) I will snap out of it - I have been here before. However, I dunno - I just felt the need to write down how I feel - and now you lucky peop

Bomb Attacks

I know it might be seen by some as an over-reaction following the 7/7 attacks, and the attempted attacks on London last week, but well - this is what blogs are for - rather than start a thread, I thought it might be best to put how I am feeling in my blog. Basically, since the 7/7 attacks, and the potential bomb attacks thursday last week, that thankfully 'went wrong' I am finding it increasingly difficult to travel on the train to and from work of a day. I could 'recover' from the shock of 7

Squiffy

I am rather squiffy right now. Not sure what squiffy actually means to some, but to me, it means rather tipsy. Anyway, had a I am stupid few weeks (you wouldnt believe how long it took me to fine the @ key on my keyboard - even if I can see double of everything right now ) However, other than the fact life has been I need to control my languageey, the only think worthy of mentioning is....... ................ my lovely mini-me. She got 2 certificates from school this week. One for designi

Chislehurst Caves

It has been half term for kids in Bexley this week, so we decided to take Mini-Raven to Chislehurst Caves, which is only a few miles from where we live. Anyway, after getting lost, and it taking the equivalent time wise of driving to the Coast for the day, we arrived at the Caves. Everything was fine until half way through the tour she announced she was scared and she was going to be sick (this was followed by a few unconvincing heaves and coughs). Unfortunatly it was too late to go back (and th

Ben (or dopey chops)

Ben, one of the family dogs was knocked down and killed by a car yesterday. He was such a happy, trusting soul, bless him. The only comfort we can get is that it was instant, and he didnt suffer. He escaped by a complete accident, and was making his way to the field opposite mum and dads house. He was missing only for a few minutes as his coat was still dry when Dad found him in the middle of the road, even though it was raining lightly. We are, naturally cut up by the premature death, but h

Lanarkshire Council Complaint Letters

.........allegedly (but it did make me smile) Clips from Lanarkshire Council complaint letters: · My bush is really overgrown round the front and my back passage has fungus growing on it. · He's got this huge tool that vibrates the whole house and I just can't take any more. · It's the dogs' mess that I find hard to swallow. · I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off. · I wish to complain that my father

Crabs

We went to Westgate beach today. Never been there before, but Mr R insisted on going as he spent many a happy childhood there (with his strange parents) back in 1982.Anyway, I grinned and bared it down there, knowing I would hate it purely because its associated with the parents in law from Hell (and believe me, I am not exagerating - if I wasnt so shy, I would be a star on ITV1's parent in laws from Hell programme)Anyway, suprise, suprise, it was a .................... suprisingly pleasant day

Fish

Our fish died yesterday. When I broke the news to Mini Raven, she cheerfully announced she has a new name for the fish. (It had had 4 names in its short life) The last name we should give Taylor (the name before Andy - I think - it changed regulary) was................. Dead. Yep, according to mini-raven, because the fish is dead, we should call it Dead. Bless. Hope it had a safe journey through the sewer pipes leading to Brighton Beach.

Life

Life's a strange thing. At the moment, I am going through the most difficult moment so far in 29 years - something, having gone through half the stuff I have had to deal so far with - seems pretty trival. But atm, I am finding it hard to deal with the day to day things in life - you know, like getting out of bed. Life really can be sh*t. Its like this is the tip of a very big ice berg and I am not sure if I will actually get through it. God, what a depressing blog - but hey, thats how I fe

Snow - and pics of mini raven and mummy raven

Well, finally spring has sprung - along with snow that settled (well, a decent settle, unlike 2 weeks ago!) Anyway, here are some pics - and a few pics of mini-raven 'catalogue posing' which did make me smile. Hopefully the pictures should be in this order... 1&2 Mini Raven striking a pose 3 - Mini Raven in the snow. The 'Alan Carr' tooth look is because the tooth is loose - honest! 4 - Mini Raven throwing a snowball at me  I enjoyed playing in the snow really - as picture 5

Supermarket shopping

While doing my rather tedious weekly shop in Sainsburys this morning (I will get to grips with on-line shopping one day, I'm sure) I made a few observations. 1) Why do long lost friends discover each other while out shopping and block aisles for 15 minutes catching up with the past 36 years? 2) Why doesnt the person in front no longer pocess the common courtesy of putting that thingy bobby between their shopping and my shopping on the till conveyor belt? 3) Why, when the cashier a

Flat tyers

First off, I'm not talking about the tyres of flab I have around my stomach. They will slowly be disapearing thanks to Rosemary Conely's diet and my sister's wedding in August 2008 as will power to loose them. I had my first flat tyre Saturday night. I was in the car alone, and for the first time ever, left the house without my mobile phone - about the only time in 8 years I have genuinely needed the blasted thing . Anyway, I guessed I had a flat tyre when I was around 4 miles from home. Well,

Emily's 2nd Parents Evening

Well, Em has been at school for 6 months (bar about 2 months half term) and tonight we had her 2nd parents evening. Not really sure what I was expecting (what with 2 full time parents should be culled/put down by the age of 40/or sterilised threads we have had recently) - sorry, have to say, those threads make me die of laughter, really, they do. Like I choose to work! Anyway. Off topic there. (and doing what I do best - waffling) Despite being one of two parents who has to work full time

Phew...

Well, finally I have my blog..... it took me forever (well, ok slight exageration) to go through that Pay Pal thingy. I am just rubbish at that kind of thing - had to keep going back and adding more information. Not even sure if you will ever see what I am typing, as I have no doubt I'm doing this wrong as well!Errrm, well, thats about it really... just wanted to say hello to the land of Blogs!xx

A good day (for once)

Had some good news today. Some of you may know about my Granddad being diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had an MRI scan last week to see if it had spread. Its good news because it can be treated and hasnt spread. The results came though today to say that it hasnt spread, but the tumour he has is an aggressive form. He's 82, has heart problems and diabetes, but an operation to remove the tumour seems to be the sensible option. Granddad asked what the outlook would be if he didnt have the op,

Magners Irish Cider

I wondered what the big deal was about his on the 12th December 2005. So I bought a bottle, and thought it was disgusting. I told people what I thought, and they were shocked.... "It tastes like apples" "Its soooo refreshing" said another "You must have bought a moldy bottle" was the reply from my sister. So, I decided to give it another chance. Just maybe the bottle I bought back in december had flemented? (say things how I spell them) So, this evening, I thought I would see (again) wha

Parents Evening

Had Mini-R's first parent evening tonight. She has 2 teachers who do job share (Mrs O'Flynn Mon-Wed and Mrs Stewart Thurs/Fri) Mrs O'Flynn is the typical lovely Primary School teacher, but Mrs Stewart has the ability to scare me 16 years after leaving Primary School!Little'un is doing very well at school, and isn't causing any concern. They are really pleased with her progress. They said she is a very happy child, always happy and smilling.... obviously she must save her 'moments' for when sh
