Weekly weather guide Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th December 2012 (west Wales and the Midlands)

Headline: Rather cold, rain or showers at times; frosty at times, snow less probable. A reprieve from the rain last week, only 4mm falling since Monday here. As the models predicted it turned cold from mid week, and on Thursday morning Llanwnnen was colder than anywhere else in the UK getting down to -7.5c and only managing 1.8c during the day - very cold for November. Church Lawford, Warwickshire, had a minimum of -5c on Saturday morning. Turning milder early this week briefly, then g

Weekly look back and ahead Monday 12th to Sunday 18th August 2013

The week gone was mixed The low pressure at the start of the week gave some large rainfall totals over Wales and parts of the West Midlands. In the 48 hours up to Monday evening Mumbles near Swansea had a massive 76mm (3 inches), while Hereford had 45.2mm. Monday was the coolest day at Llanwnnen since July 3rd with a cool high of just 17.7c, although the Midlands had a warmer day. Some pleasant weather after all the rain, it becam

Week ahead for west Wales and the Midlands: Monday 12th to Sunday 18th November 2012

Headline: Fairly dry and mild with some fog A mostly dry week gone for the Midlands, but still wet weather to start and end the week here in west Wales giving one and a half inches in total. Rather cool, but never cold and with a few slight frosts too. Quite a lot of dry weather in the week ahead, especially for the Midlands once more, with west Wales more likely to see some rain at times. No day has reached the early November average of 12c thus far at Llanwnnen, so a fairly mild week

Weather prospects for west Wales and the Midlands New Year's Eve to Saturday 6th January 2013

More rain and wind at first, then becoming mostly dry and mild The floods in the Midlands receded through the past week, as rainfall lessened, however there was still a substantial 40mm during the past week at Rugby. West Wales has had another very wet week with just over 3 inches (77mm) falling back home at Llanwnnen. All this rain has made 2012 one of the wettest years on record, Llanwnnen needs 2 inches

Weather Guide Sunday April 1st To Easter Monday 2012 (west Wales And Central Midlands Specific)

Headline: Welcome rain, with hill snow possible Tuesday. Cool, sharp frosts mid to late week, mostly dry. Unsettled Easter Quite a week just gone, with Winter and Summer in a day, from scraping the ice off to sunbathing a few hours later. Hard to better for prolonged warmth and sunshine in March, even if the Welsh and English records remained in tact. Most of us saw 20 or 21c; with Llanwnnen having 4 consecutive days above 20c, while Coventry had it's warmest March day since 1965. For

Headline: Mostly cool and unsettled, further rain or showers at times A cool, even very cool week gone, on both last Sunday and Tuesday temperatures stayed below 11c here at Llanwnnen, 6c below the late September average figure. A wet week too, many of us getting close to 2 inches of rain, although our areas much less affected than the parts of northern England and Wales which saw 4 to 6 inches and flooding. All this rain has still failed to bring us up to the monthly average of 4 in

Weather Guide Sunday 29th April To Saturday 5th May (west Wales And Central Midlands Specific)

Headline: Very wet and windy Sunday, then some rain or showers, but generally drier and and milder This month is going some way to easing the water shortage in parts of the UK, and will end up one of the wettest April's on record; Llanwnnen has had over 5 inches rain so far and Rugby over 4 inches. The record for Coventry is 106mm (just over 4 inches), and so with a very wet Sunday coming up, a good chance this will become the wettest April on record. Another low pressure system

Weather Guide Sunday 22nd To Saturday 28th April 2012 (west Wales And Central Midlands)

Headline: Continuing very unsettled with more rain and showers. Mostly cool. We all had a good dose of rain last week, with over an inch for most. With the set up having been generally showery of late, local variations have occurred, so that for example on Friday morning Lampeter only had a couple of short sharp showers, while inland from Aberystwyth a lot of heavy and prolonged downpours gave almost an inch of rain. Meanwhile the west coast of Pembrokeshire has stayed more or less d

Headline: Becoming dry, warm and quite sunny! The week just gone was not too bad overall with plenty of dry weather, if generally rather cool. Llanwnnen did manage to reach 18c on Friday though, which is a little above the May average. A total of 20mm of rain falling on Llanwnnen, and only 10mm on Coventry in the past week. A taste of Summer on the way in the coming week (let's hope it's not the last!), with the highest temperatures since that exceptionally warm spell in March.

During Tuesday and Wednesday, we enjoyed some warm sunny spells raising temperatures to an average 19c. There were, however, very heavy showers about on these days too, but Llanwnnen missed the worst of these. I experienced a torrential shower just 2 miles from home on Tuesday afternoon, and an

As for the coming week, we will be lucky indeed to reac
