Still Waiting.....

it's cold and very windy here today, but despite a few flakes this morning (and I mean a few!) we haven't had any more snow....Every now and again, the sky goes dark, I run to the window, the cloud thickens and then just moves off....I reckon we must be just to west of everywhere getting snow....sob!Apart from that, not much to report....got up late, read the papers, watched a bit of telly, and now I'm back here again, surfing the boards.....I'd really like some snow....even just a little bit wo

Windy....

well after a mild and wet start this morning (whilst we were on our way out, of course!) we've now got scudding cloud and the temp has dropped....fingers crossed for even a smattering of snow! Did the trip into town to get shopping and spent most of the time being battered and pushed about by hoards of men desperately scouring the shops for roses and a heart shaped box of chocs........The majority of younger men have pushchairs with them: very Islington set in St. Albans....the men get sent out

Long weekend of doing nothing stretches ahead which will be nice...that's if I can extracate andrew from the computer which, as many others have said on here, is not always easy...the joys of working from home!Anyway, got a nice long walk in the park planned if the weather is nice (if it's not to wet and cold) the usual dutiful stuff, like shopping and washing and catching up on some other stuff...OOoooooo...BTW...watched 'Ice Age' for the first time last night

Rainy....

well today is wet and miserable here....had to go out to get some stuff and of course, my umbrella decided to go the way of the pear, so arrived home wet and cold....but managed to get other half's valentine's gift...can't say what it is cos the so and so is watching my every post , but we always have a £10 limit to try to make it a bit more fun, rather than just 'here's a bunch of flowers and here's a dvd for you dear'....ooooo, and I also bought the most wonderful ironing board cover from Wo

Big Brother....

Now I happen to know my other half has syndicated my blog, so today I want to talk lots about him, just to wind him up! Hello Andrew, by the way!!! lolHe's only recently started working from home which has entailed the buying of a second computer, the total reorganisation of our small flat, and my acceptance of losing my home space, as it were...Apart from a few teething troubles we're getting along famously which is excellent, and it is wonderful that he no longer has to get up at the crack of

Boats...

Well today has been very quiet...Spent an hour watching Ellen MacArthur this morning...what an amazing girl she is: 28, 5'2" and a woman and she has really taken on all challengers and beaten them! Good on her...she really is an inspiration. It actually made me think...my best friend is due to take part in the Global Challenge Race in 2006...I'm really proud of her, but I'm also a little bit scared, cos I know that every day she's away, I'll be logging on all the time just to make sure she's OK..

Now I'm Really Starting....

....to regret getting this blog: another thing that needs to be done! No, actually it's quite cathartic....scribbling down everything and geting it all outta me system!Well today's news is the sunspots look to be receding, Ellen MacArthur is well on the way to breaking the round the world record...and we have a beautiful sunny day here in Herts! So apart from the sun-spot, all is well!Went in to work in London today...usual joys of dealing with academics and students....but managed to achieve evr

Oooooooo My First One!

I sat there all ready to go, paid me fiver, clicked the links and here I am: with not a clue of what to say!OK , right, first thing's first. I love this site! I've been lurking around here for a little bit and finally plucked up the courage to post in January...what started it was me seeing a very strange cloud when I was at Morrison's (I know! hardly the place!)...so, anyway, after uploading me cloud, finding out it was a fall streak, and meeting a few fellow loons...here I am!so I guess this i

Day 2!

Well, today is a bit of a write off! After spending most of yesterday copying and pasting things into a database, I made a break for freedom to my book group last night...now I know most people think these sorts of things are packed with worthy types and women of a certain age, but believe me, if you've seen the Reading Group on C4 that is far more like my group....we meet in the local bookshop, have two hours chat about the book until the conversation degenerates into chat about films, stupid j

Flogging A Dead Horse!

well today I spent 5 hours [edit: that was at 8pm...I've now spent another 3, making a total of 8...I wonder if they have a full time position here for me???] on here....as a continuation from several hours last night, I may add.....arguing about hunting. I feel absolutely frazzled and a little amazed at some of the small minded and nasty responses by (I am glad to say) a few people on this board...Mind you, it was very heartening to find out that all of the people I have previously respected an

The West End

I went up to the big smoke on Monday night and watched a musical about the Windy City...It was excellent - we had superb seats and Jill Ha'Penny was good as well - a surprise as I didn't think Geordies could do Chicago accents - there must have been a voice converter somewhere! Also the conductor must have been out of the Muppet Show! :)But please, someone tell me why all these London Theatres have to have toilets made in the dark ages? Come on - someone tell me! LOL

Sunshine!!

At approximately 13:30 today the sunshine came back out! That was the first I had seen of the sun since about last Sunday morning. I think I was starting to get S.A.D. Reading some of the threads today I noticed a lot of people are taking this potential cold snap as a foregone conclusion; I am trying to be more circumspect. If the charts still show the same on Tuesday then I will allow myself to get excited.

Life Of Learning

Hello fellow weather ethusiasts.I have been a net weather member for some time now and love all types of more "extreme" British weather. I.e. I love HOT and VERY COLD.This winter as we all know has been a bit of a dismal one so far!.I have learned a great deal from others far more experienced than me. i.e How to read the charts, what all the symbols mean and above all what the weather Jargon is!! Its been great fun so far.I think this site is a great area for young and Older people ( i think

Saturday Ramblings

It's the weekend- and not unusually for Lancaster, there was a spectacular sunset just five minutes ago! I have to say I've done rather well during this anticyclonic 'gloom' spell- there's been a decent amount of sunshine here in Lancaster, while in my home region of South Tyneside it's been pretty dismal, so I've heard.I finished my hydrology project yesterday- something of a relief, because hydrology is probably the aspect of Environmental Science I'm least interested in of all the aspects I'

Books, Lots Of Them

In my spare time I work for a guy who has lots of books, about 28,000 in fact...In about 5 years I have put about 9,500 online on a database that can be found at www.biancolibrary.com - we've sold about 3,500 of them...He's away for the week and I've popped down to his huge barn conversion to make surwe it's OK I've got the music blaring out loudly from the speakers of his hi - fi - they cost £1500 each in 1987 and there's 4 of them! How the other half live eh?
