31th January 2014(Missouri, Bloomfield)

A lot warmer today, currently 3c and cloudy. Glad its warmer, currently had warnings out for freezing rain. Three trough are expected to hit the area, the first possible drizzle. The second could turn to freezing rain or snow and the third trough could be heavy snow. There is a lot of uncertainty at present and things could change to a non freezing rain or snow event. Currently snowing up at St Louis, but I think we are slightly to warm if it makes its way here later this evening.

So glad its warming up even though its in theory still cold, funny how you think -3 is warm. Been extremely cold at night down to -14. In the main beautiful sunny blue skies in the day. The sun is currently burning all the clouds away fast but we still have a cold wind from the N/W.

A wet start to 2014

Well what a soggy start to 2014! I measured 32mm of rain in our gauge for yesterday...the Hill won't be fit for walking today, far too mushy on the paths. It's been mild, though, at 8.4[sup]o[/sup]C. Still wondering whether neighbours fence panels will finally lift off this winter, they're closer to it every storm. Winter Forecast Recap/Update

With December nearly over (and with me having some spare time on my hands for once) I thought it would be a good time to assess my winter forecast so far and give my thoughts on where we're likely to head weatherwise in the New Year. This was my NH composite forecast for the general height pattern for both the troposphere and stratosphere for December, along with my own adjustments to the composite maps:
December [url="http://f1.nwstatic.co.uk/forum/uploads/monthl

The week the Arctic High took control

As a strong storm came through at the weekend it also introduced an arctic high with bitterly cold temperatures. This week we have not got above -25oC and night time has been around -32oC. Tonight the temperature has really taken a tumble and at 11:20pm tonight its currently -37oC. The record low here is -42oC set in Dec 2008. Will we break it? I guess we will know in 12 hours. What does it feel like? Imagine opening the freezer and that feeling of cold air for a second...that's every hour
